SMURF : Married Life and the Origin of Venom

 Chronology: Comics Index by Date

These are the Spider-Man Unified Reading Flow codes for the SMURF era beginning with 292.600.

This era begins with Peter and Mary Jane's wedding. The section features events like the first appearance of Venom and Carnage as symbiote-based villains as well as Spider-Man's appearance in the Infinity War saga. This era ends when Ben Reilly returns to New York City, kicking off the second Clone Saga.

[Pgs. 1 - 41] "The Wedding!"

[Pg. 43] Two weeks after their wedding day (and after their return from their honeymoon), Peter carries MJ over the threshold of their home.
292.850
"The Deadmaker" Untold tale taking place shortly after Peter/MJ wedding. Note* Original MCP list has the wrong code for this entry (missing the '@'), also lists this as a FB, but it is not. It is technically an "untold tale" since there is no contemporary perspective in the story.
292.900
"Has Anybody Seen My Gal?" As the newlyweds adjust to married left, one morning MJ mistakenly takes Peter's jacket which has a roll of film he wanted to give to the Daily Bugle. He spends the whole day trying to chase her down (boy, would cell phones be nice!) only to miss her at every turn. Aggravated that he won't be getting paid by the Daily Bugle for the film, Peter returns home, only to find that his lovely new bride took the film over to the Daily Bugle for him!
293.000
"The Coffin" Kraven's Last Hunt Part 1
293.500
"Crawling" Kraven'ts Last Hunt Part 2 Note* Original MCP list has this as a 'BTS' entry (since Spider-Man is not shown, he's buried in the ground). Our list contains no 'BTS' entries, and the list includes all Spider-Man core titles (whether he's MIA in the issue or not).

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance when the New Mutants Warlock and Sunspot go out looking for villains. They mistake Spider-Man for a villain and attack him. Spider-Man is able to hold his own (obviously) but the Power Pack quickly intervene anyway to make sure the New Mutants are aware he's a hero. Spider-Man then swings off into the city. Its worth noting that Warlock had crossed paths with Spider-Man back in Web of Spider-Man Annual #2 (and thus he should have remembered he's a hero...but Warlock is sort of weirdo so its possible he forgot).

Spider-Man, alongside Thor, Black Knight and the She-Hulk battle the Alternator Bug-Bot (built by the Terrible Tinkerer for Virgil Starkwell). After the group defeats the robot, which leads to city-wide destruction, Spider-Man gets stuck inside the head of the robot. Damage Control arrives on the scene to clean up, but also to get Spider-Man out of the robot. The eventually change the robot into a VW Bug and Spidey hops out of the trunk of the newly formed car. Spider-Man mentions his wife in this story, so it takes place after his wedding. Also an editor's note says the story takes place before the events of Avengers #294.

When Thor (who was operating under his new secret identity Sigurd Jarlson) is attacked by Mongoose at the construction site, he's knocked off the top of the building. Spider-Man, who just happened to be swinging through the city, grabs in him in mid-air and brings him to safety. Spidey then swings off to battle the Mongoose, whilst Sigurd converts over to his Thor persona. Whilst battling Mongoose, the villain sprays Spidey with a toxic gas, knocking him to the ground. Just as Mongoose is about to bite through Spidey's neck, Thor steps in and punches Mongoose in the head. This frees up Spidey to save a bystander who fell from the top of the construction site. Spidey and Thor then team up to defeat Mongoose. Unfortunately they're unable to catch him because he launches a vehicle at the support columns of the building, then he runs off. Spidey and Thor are forced to find a way to prevent the building from collapsing and killing innocent bystanders. Spidey and Thor use a combination of webbing and beams to secure the building. All is well that ends well except for one thing, Spidey forgot to activate his camera to snap pics of the event for the Daily Bugle! Note* Spider-Man references the events of Amazing Spider-Man #300 (basically that he's back to his blue/red costume), so this story takes place after ASM 300.

When Clay Quartermain testifies at a Senate Hearing regarding his role in uncovering gamma bombs manufactured by the US Government, the media coverage is intense. Peter Parker, alongside J. Jonah Jameson, watch the news coverage from the Daily Bugle offices. Jameson is irked by Quartermain's "putting himself above the law" and compares him to Oliver North. Peter tries to calm Jonah down, saying that Quartermain (and the grassroots movement to have him run for President) will die down. Unfortunately for Peter, a reporter wanted to get the take from an "average woman on the street" and the reporter finds his wife MJ! MJ says, "well, I'd vote for him. I think he's a fox. Not as cute as my husband, Pete...but a fox!" Jameson then snarls at Peter who whistle uncomfortably to himself. Peter is not seen again in this story.

While attending a science expo, to get a break from all the stress he'd been under, Peter Parker's Spider-sense warns him of a nearby danger and something sapping his energy. He leaves the expo but returns as Spider-Man to investigate. He ultimately comes across Radioactive Man who could sense Spider-Man's radioactive blood. Eventually Radioactive Man gets the upper hand, the proximity effect of Spidey being nearby allowed Radioactive Man to sap his energy and snare him. Radioactive Man takes Spidey back to his lab where he wants to study the web-slinger's blood, decipher its mysteries, and then profit by selling the formula. Spider-Man is too weak to fight back, but suddenly Iron Man comes busting into the lab and attacks Radioactive Man. Stark had read in a newspaper that Spidey and Radioactive Man were at the expo, he thought that couldn't be a coincidence so he decided to investigate. Iron Man pulls Radioactive Man away from Spidey long enough for his strength to return, the two heroes then battle the villain. Spidey even slaps on a radiation suit to prevent Radioactive Man from sapping his energy while they battle. The two heroes eventually defeat Radioactive Man by melting lead on to him. Note* Chen Lu (aka Radioactive Man) unmasked Spider-Man (then put an oxygen breathing mask on him) in this story...perhaps he does not know who Peter Parker is, but Tony Stark saw him partially unmasked as well. Its possible neither recognize Peter Parker, but it is worth noting.

[Pgs. 10 - 22] Conclusion to "California Schemin!" Spider-Man confronts the Black Fox. There's a gap in this story with a narration note that says "days pass" (on page 10). This enables multiple stories to be fit within ASM #304.

[Pg. 2] Flashback story that depicts Spider-Man stopping the Magnetic Man's attempt to rob a bank. The web-slinger makes quick work of the criminal, landing him in jail for a 6 year sentence. This flashback takes place six years before the events of Spider-Island. The original MCP placment has this story just after Peter's return from Battleworld where he's wearing the black costume. However, that does not fit, since in this flashback Spider-Man is wearing his traditional blue and red costume. Moving this story up to when Peter was back wearing his blue and red costume full time allow for it work a bit better.
309.400
[Pg. 11 panel 2] When Manslaughter Marsdale muses over his powers and how they allow him to battle the likes of Spider-Man, he recalls a time they once battled. This is a single panel that shows Spidey dodging blow from Marsdale, by jumping through the air. Amazing Spider-Man #309 immediately opens with Marsdale and Spider-Man battling, so this FB-FB fits there perfectly, and leads directly into the beginning of ASM 309. This single panel also features a slightly different perspective on the Marsdale/Spider-Man fight, so its considered new content and is included in this list. The point in the story takes "two days earlier" than the main setting, so technically this Manslaughter reminiscence is "flashback within a flashback (FB-FB)"

[Pgs. 2 - 23] Spider-Man pays a visit to Johnny Storm, who was in a lot of emotional pain after a young boy in New Jersey named Theodore (Ted) Bannon committed suicide. Ted had left a note that state he reason for doing so was because he'd never reach the greatness level of his hero Johnny Storm. After Spidey heard the story, he stopped by because he wanted to tell Johnny about when he was down and out, and heard a lecture from Johnny about not giving up, that that had really inspired him. Spider-Man is of course referring to the events of Amazing Spider-Man #3. He then encouraged Johnny to go to colleges and schools to inspire other young kids. Storm takes him up on that request. This is considered a flashback story, but it is not clear other than the narration of "it wasn't even all that long ago..." that would be in reference to the setting Fantastic Four #342. The placement of this entry at this point in the chronology can work.

When Jarvis, the Avenger's butler, is walking down the street he thinks to himself that he hasn't seen a movie in a while. He then passes the Daily Bugle and realizes that perhaps the newspaper should have the schedule of the local movie theaters. Suddenly, Jarvis sees bricks falling from a scaffolding above toward a mother and her daughter. Jarvis screams for them to move, just as Peter is also exiting the Daily Bugle building. Making it seem as though he's about to fall and needs to grab Jarvis' hand, Peter uses the umbrella in Jarvis' hand to bat away the bricks. This makes it appear as though Jarvis did all the saving himself. Peter then comments on how well Jarvis handled the falling bricks, the slightly confused butler gives appreciation to Peter for the 'timely assistance' and even comments on the strength of his grip. Peter then recommends a movie to Jarvis (both Crocodile Dundee and Roger Rabbit) and heads off on his way, he's not seen again in the story.

The story opens with Spider-Man web-swinging through the city, drawn by a painful Spider-sense to some unknown source. Eventually his Spider-sense leads him to Mysterio, who he tails. Once he confronts Mysterio, who is carrying a briefcase, it becomes obvious that Mysterio is a pawn for someone else. After showing the villain that the briefcase contains 'play' money, Mysterio tells Spidey who he's really working for...the Headmen (an evil group consisting of Arthur Nagan, Jerome Morgan, Ruby Thursday and Chondu)! Apparently Mysterio had helped the Headmen kidnap She-Hulk. Spidey recalls that the Headmen used to battle the Defenders (and he even knows a lot about them individually as well), so he makes his way to their headquarters. Spidey breaks into their lair and, as expected, a brawl ensues. The Headmen reveal their plan, they've separated She-Hulk's head from her body. Spidey is then attacked by the headless body! The Headmen also unveil another aspect of their secret plan, they created a device that triggers Spider-Man's Spider-sense and thus draws him to it (they then attached that transmitter to Mysterio, which explains the beginning of the story). After the She-Hulk torso knocks Spidey out, the Headmen attach Chondu's head on to the She-Hulk body. Eventually Spidey regains his consciousness, he and She-Hulk realize that its actually a cloned body, and not her real body. So Spidey knocks the Chondu head off of the She-Hulk body. The real She-Hulk is able to free herself from the constraints and the duo defeat the Headmen, leaving them for the authorities. (Note* Upon seeing Mysterio, Spider-Man references his recent dealing with him (ie, ASM 311), so this story must take place after that. Interestingly, John Byrne's Spider-Man (poses, webbing) begin looking like McFarlane's Spidey.

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance when the Moon Knight, who was tracking the Bushman, ends up causing a ruckus in Central Park. The Moon Knight's efforts brought him to the Embassy of the Republic of Burunda, but his proximity to that building caused the general there to send some of his warriors after the Moon Knight. Whilst web-swinging through the city, Spider-Man sees this battle taking place, but he does not intervene. Rather, he simply snaps some photos for the Daily Bugle and goes on his way. Before he leaves though Spider-Man remarks to himself, "Moon Knight, huh? I thought he was in California." Spider-Man is not seen again in the story.

When Peter Parker is returning home on a bus from a visit to Jeff Wain (whom he hadn't seen since his book tour), his Spider-sense alerts him to nearby trouble. His Spider-sense, as usual, was on point and the danger was a nearby battle between Daredevil and Blackheart at an old amusement park. Spider-Man immediately joins the fray and helps ol' hornhead by attacking Blackheart. Both Spider-Man and Daredevil, however, have no idea who this black demon even is though. Regardless how hard they hit him or what they hit him with, Blackheart remains unphased and continues to attack the two heroes. Daredevil contemplates trying to kill the monster, but Spidey stops him (he thinks DD is possessed at the time), it also looks as if the monster wants them to kill it. The two decide to continue trying to pummel it and not kill Blackheart. Suddenly, the seemingly mindless beast disappears with a great "FFOOM!" All this was observed by Mephisto, and the presence of that devil was sensed by DD but he could not place exactly who it was. Spider-Man and Daredevil are then surrounded by the innocent bystanders who approach to thank them (and get autographs!). Spider-Man and Daredevil appear to save the day but they both know evil still lurks out there.

This story is Part 8 of the "Atlantis Attacks" crossover event and picks up from the events of the Spectacular Spider-Man Annual 9. By this point, Spider-Man has become Tyrannus' pet. This is meant literally, Spider-Man is walking around on all-fours and barking and snarling like a dog, all the while doing Tyrannus' bidding! When Spider-Man is deployed by Tyrannus to stop an intruder, DD swings in attacks Spidey to defend the intruder (it's not clear how DD knew instantly Spidey was bad). Whilst battling the web-slinger, Daredevil can tell that Spider-Man is either possessed or drugged. The relentless attack by Spider-Man eventually gives him the upper hand, and he nearly drowns Daredevil. But DD is able to summon the strength to save himself. Dr. Strange eventually breaks Tyrannus' spell and destroys his temple. This frees Spider-Man and allows him to return to normal. Spider-Man, Daredevil and Dr. Strange gather as all of Tyrannus' demons return to normal people. The heroes then go their separate ways.

[Pgs. 5 - 12] Spider-Man makes a brief appearance fighting alongside Thor, Iron Man and the Fantastic Four against Bitumen Elves of Svartalfheim. These monsters crossed into Earth's dimension and wreaked havoc on NYC in attempt to kill Thor. The heroes eventually prevail and Spider-Man is not seen again in the story. The beginning of the flashback states this took place "four years ago". This could work, this story was published around the time of Amazing Spider-Man #650 and as malleable as the Spider-verse timeline is, one could imagine this place in the chronology being roughly 4 years before then.

When Peter had forgotten his notes back in his lab, he returned (in his Spider-Man costume) later in the evening to get them and stumbled upon a robbery at the university. He eventually stops the crooks, who turn out to be student advocates who were stealing animals that were about to subjected to inhumane experiments. Spider-Man waffles on the right thing to do, but ultimately decides to turn the students over to the authorities because stealing is illegal (despite how cute the animals are). Although he does ponder the question to himself as to whether 'man' is really important than any other creature on Earth. In the process of getting the students in the hands of the authorities, Spidey slips, and knocks himself unconscious. The students take the chance to escape. Spider-Man returns home feeling somewhat satisfied as to how things turned out, clearly he was still in an ethical dilemma.

When Quasar is instructed by his guru Eon to find an odd energy signature that manifests then disappears, Quasar's tracking system sends him to Spider-Man! The web-slinger had been imbued with a cosmic energy and when Quasar tries to pin the wall-crawler down to study it, Spidey forces his way to freedom. Quasar, having established a relationship with Spidey way back in Marvel Team Up #113, does not want to continue to pester Spider-Man, so he lets him go freely. Eventually the two reconvene after Quasar writes a giant message in the sky (a la the Human Torch) requesting Spider-Man's help. The two reconvene and Quasar explains that he needs Spidey's help to defeat Terminus. Quasar devises a plan to create a giant platform to send Terminus off of Earth and out of the solar system. However, he needs Spider-Man's essentially unstoppable cosmic strength to help lift the platform. The two heroes dive deep under water and attack Terminus from the bottom. They then launch the villain out of the solar system. Interestingly, Spider-Man then uses his web-shooters to make a web-hang-glider to return back to Earth. The two heroes part ways. Note* Spider-Man references the events of Amazing Spider-Man #328 and Web of Spider-Man #60, so this story must take place after those two.

When a neo-nazi named Hartmann emerges on the scene with a message of hate, Peter Parker snaps photos of his rally (which featured violent protests) for the Daily Bugle. The Bugle runs a huge piece attacking Hartmann, unfortunately the Bugle also published the names of the people fought back against Hartmann in protest. The Punisher, after reading the article, realizes that that may put targets on the back of the people who fought Hartmann. Meanwhile, Peter is at home with MJ and his wife volunteered to go pick up his check at the Daily Bugle while Peter follows up on this story. One of the families who were in protest to Hartmann, the Watkins, had been receiving death threats. JJJ wanted to Peter to get photos of the family. When Peter arrives, an explosion goes off at their house and the Watkins were soon under attack by the neo nazis. The Punisher was on the scene as well, however, and he and Spidey take down Hartmann's crew. Over the radio Spidey and Punisher hear that the neo-nazis have taken over the Daily Bugle, Spidey immediately thinks to himself...MJ!!! The two head toward the Daily Bugle.
329.650
Continuing directly from Punisher War Journal #14, Spider-Man and the Punisher are en route to the Daily Bugle, but they come under attack by more neo-nazis. The Battle Van struggles to handle the attack, so Spider-Man hops of out the van and takes care of the nazis by hand. Meanwhile the nazi-terrorists continue their assault on the Daily Bugle. When one of them throws an innocent Daily Bugle staff member from the window (killing her), Jameson steps up to fight but the strangle him. Eventually Spider-Man and the Punisher reach the Bugle (they were coming from upstate New York), the Punisher goes through the sewers and into the building, while Spidey goes in through the windows. Eventually they converge on their terrorists and Spidey ends up face to face with Hartmann. The leader of the neo-nazi cell knows Spider-Man won't kill and he tries to use that against him by grabbing a hostage and forcing Spider-Man to make his move. The trouble is, the hostage is MJ!! Suddenly Hartmann has an idea to lose Spidey, toss the woman from the window, which he does. Spider-Man fires a web-line to save his falling wife and as Hartmann tries to escape, JJJ jumps and tackles him. Then he reigns done blows upon Hartmann and uses extension cord to tie him up. Spider-Man and Jameson teamed up to save the day! MJ whispers to Spidey, "Oh Peter, that was too close!" Punisher gets the remaining neo-nazis including their wheelchair-bound leader. Spider-Man and Punisher do not see each other again by the story's end.

[Pgs. 1 - 3] "Pardoned" Joe Robertson is pardoned, as his close friends celebrate. Page 4 of this story opens with the caption "three days later". Thus, a handful of adventures for Spider-Man take place during this gap in the story.

When Thor, along with the rest of world, experiences a sudden 'inversion' of the universe, he drops a giant collection of wreckage (from the temporary Avengers HQ) and nearly kills innocent bystanders. Spider-Man happened to be swinging by and was able to bail out Thor, they both then discuss this intense (and weird) event. Thor tells Spidey to come along with him to the Avengers HQ as they must figure out what is going on, the web-slinger reluctantly obliges. When the two join the rest of the Avengers at their HQ, the inversions become more frequent and more intense. To the astonishment of the whole squad, everything (except a small bit of the Avenger's facility) has been blinked out of existence! Note* This entire Avengers arc (issues #314 - 318) occurs over a few brief period of time, at most, a few hours. So it can fit in between the "three days" of Spectacular Spider-Man #161.
329.800
As the team of heroes (including Spider-Man!) struggles to figure out what the heck just happened, the web-slinger steps up and uses the Avenger's long range scanner (because its basically a giant camera!) and zeros in to find the Polydyne Industries building...which seems to be the only other building in existence! The heroes make their way to that building and crash in through the walls to find Nebula, and a team of scientists, at Polydyne. As it turns out Nebula is responsible for the universe blipping out of existence. More specifically, a scientist in her employ, Dr. Harker, who created her atomic compressor, seemed to believe it was the Genesis Pulse of the compressor that triggered this event. The Avengers and Spidey begin fighting Nebula, and her attack on Spider-Man causes Cap and Thor to step in to help him (they believe Nebula has Spidey outgunned). In the heat of battle, Harker tells Spider-Man that they must deactivate the compressor. Spider-Man steps up and uses his webbing to remove the cords feeding energy into the compressor. It works! And the universe blinks back into existence! Unfortunately for the Avengers, Nebula uses the period of rejoicing to escape.

With everything returning to normal, Captain America tells Spidey that they must follow Nebula into space, and that the web-slinger can go back about his business. Spider-Man pushes back and says he wants to continue fighting alongside the Avengers and see this through to the end. The Avengers welcome his help, and the group heads for space! Soon after, Spider-Man, Cap, Thor and Sersi arrive just in time to help Iron Man and Vision battle Nebula's army. Spider-Man holds his own in the melee, even bailing out Cap a few times. The web-slinger is also bailed out as well when Sersi turns a giant monster (who was about to attack Spidey) into a pig. When the heroes reach the main deck, they find that Starfox has subdued Nebula and the rest of her cronies (by overloading their pleasure centers...long story). With everything appearing settled once again, Cap even asks Spider-Man once again to join the Avengers. Just as Spider-Man accepts the offer a giant comes crashing through the ship...one called The Stranger!!
329.900
Picking up immediately from Avengers #316, the Stranger comes barreling through Nebula's ship, demanding to know where she is. The Stranger is angry with her (although she reacts lovingly because she's still under the influence of Starfox's love touch) and takes her from the ship. Spider-Man recognizes the Stranger from their confrontation in Marvel Team Up #55. Since Sersi was unable to read the Stranger's mind to find out what he's up to, Cap decides they must simply prepare to board his ship. When Spidey expresses reluctance and suggests they should form an actual attack plan, Cap tells him if you're going to be an Avenger, you must be prepared for the unexpected (bit of an odd role reversal there, Spidey is usually more of a fly-by the-seat-of-your-pants kinda guy and Cap is the tactician...nevertheless). Before the group leaves Nebula's ark to board the Stranger's ship, the group is confronted (technically they see a projection of him) by the Stranger who tells them why his angry with Nebula. She had broken through the defenses of his home world and stolen the Infinity Union. This device can channel ambient energy to the use and make them incredibly powerful! When the Stranger increases the level of psychological torture on Nebula continues (he's trying to find where she put the device), it begins to affect the Avengers as well. So Cap resolves that even the Stranger is unfit to have the Infinity Union, and thus they must take it from him as well. Meanwhile, Iron Man finds out from Gunthar (Nebula's lackey) that if anyone besides Nebula touches the device, this entire sector of space will be annihilated! Iron Man leaves Gunthar to warn the others. Meanwhile, Cap and the others have split up to find the device, and Spidey stumbles upon the Infinity Union (luckily he had been warned by Iron Man not to touch it)! So, Spider-Man doesn't touch it with his hands, but he does shoot a web-line which hits the Infinity Union and suddenly there is a tremendous explosion!!
329.950
This story continues directly from Avengers #317 and opens with Spider-Man doing his best Steve Erkel impression by spouting, "Did I do that?" And Nebula responds, "You most certainly did..." Spider-Man's web-line hitting the Infinity Union freed Nebula from the control of the Stranger and handed her a great deal of power. With Nebula becoming all powerful, she teleported all the Avengers, Spider-Man, the Stranger and her underlings to the main monitor room of the Stranger's ship. Nebula then begins toying with Stranger, disintegrating him then bringing him back. She does it so many times that the Stranger collapses from exhaustion. Then Nebula appears before the rest of the heroes as a giant, and Cap exclaims, "Avengers Attack!" As a battle ensues, the heroes find that they are no match for Nebula and eventually they retreat. When they make their way into the Stranger's weapon's room, Spidey gets into the tube and pulled away from the rest of the group. Soon after, the Stranger tells the Avengers the information he forced out of Gunthar...namely, that Nebula is absorbing the energy of the Infinity Union via microchip in her head (and they must remove that chip!). Sersi is able to remove the chip, causing Nebula to lose her powers and shrink to normal size. Spider-Man returns and attempts exact some revenge on the villainess, but the Avengers call him off. Spidey admits this all too much for him. He later comments to himself that the Avengers play for keeps day in and day out. When the Avengers return to Earth, Spidey says to Cap he'd like to go home and tell his wife he just saved the universe. Cap then tells him that his skills are needed in the war on crime, but that he doesn't work best in a group or against the enemies they face. Spidey then asks if he's getting fired from the Avengers, which, he adds, he's perfectly fine with. Cap politely confirms his suspicions. Spidey then swings off on his way.

"All That Glitters" Note* Molten Man's return is mentioned by Spider-Man in Marvel Comics Presents #48. So this story must take place before that one. Also, WOSM #62 takes place during a single afternoon into an evening. So it can fit inside the "three days" listed in Spectacular Spider-Man #161. Then it can lead into the evening events of Marvel Comics Presents #48 - 50.
330.000
One evening, Spider-Man is web-swinging through the city thinking about recent events and he comes across Wolverine. Spider-Man believes Wolvie is dead and that this is an imposter, so he attacks him. After the two trade a few blows, Spidey becomes convinced he's the real Wolverine. Wolverine then explains that a girl has been kidnapped and is being held in a warehouse nearby. When Wolverine points out the warehouse, Spider-Man realizes its the exact same warehouse that the burglar (who killed his Uncle Ben) went after he shot his uncle. It's a little too much for Spidey to process in the moment, but eventually the two heroes prepare to attack the warehouse. Note* At the beginning of this story, Spidey gives a rundown of recent events going on his life, which place this story after WOSM 62, ASM 329, and SSM 155.
330.050
Picking up immediately after the events of Marvel Comics Presents #48, Spider-Man and Wolverine make their way to the warehouse and are attacked by the evil mutants (Bloodlust, Critical Mass and Savage Fin) which kidnapped the young girl. They're under fire immediately as the evil mutants counter their attack. Eventually, Spider-Man and Wolverine get the upper hand. However, when they make their way to the young girl one of the evil mutants forces her to use her powers against Spidey and Wolverine, he threatens to blow off her father's head (who is also held captive). The girl complies and sends a energy blast at the two heroes. Note* The villain, Critical Mass, is Arnie Gunderson, Peter's fourth grade classmate who apparently has mutant powers.
330.100
The conclusion the three part "Life's End" arc. With Spider-Man and Wolverine down for the count, the evil mutants prepare to go in for the kill. But Spidey and Wolverine blast back up into the air and attack, surprising the villains! There's a brief homage to Amazing Fantasy #15 when Spidey clocks a guy who's dressed like the burglar who shot his uncle (and the villain even makes a comment about how the web-slinger did something to his brother, hinting that he's the burglar's brother). However, when Spidey sees his face he recognizes him as...his dentist! Nevertheless, the battle rages on but one of the evil mutants goes for the young girl and threatens to kill her if the heroes don't leave. Suddenly the young girl uses her mutant powers to send off a giant explosion and Spidey escapes using his Spider-sense. Soon after, he returns home to MJ and he's totally confused. All his pics don't make any sense, there's none of Wolverine (who at this point in chronology was presumed dead), Arnie (aka Critical Mass) or his dentist...he starts to think it was all a dream and he's lost his mind. MJ assures him that he's just over stressed and that everything will return to normal. The (ambiguous) end.

"The Demon And The Dead Man" Spider-Man visits Reed Richards to see the results of his analysis of the Carrion Virus. When the Impossible Man takes his family to Earth for an action-packed vacation, Spider-Man crosses paths with the Fantastic Four foe. Spidey was staking out some illegal ivory importers when suddenly the Green Goblin comes at him! Spidey chases after his thought-dead foe only to find that he's now morphed into the Lizard. The web-slinger realizes something is not right about this, then he witnesses the creature morph into 5 other villains from his rogues gallery. Spidey snaps at the green and purple clad being and says, "I get it now! you've got to be the Impossible Man!!" Apparently Reed Richards had told Spidey about him in Amazing Spider-Man #258 (during a coffee break to be specific). As Spider-Man is patrolling the city on what seems to be a quiet evening, he spots Moon Knight creeping into a building and offers to help him. Moon Knight basically tells him to hit the road, and Spidey immediately recognizes that this is not the real Moon Knight. When Spidey confronts him, they're both attacked by soldiers of the Secret Empire. Melee ensues and eventually the REAL Moon Knight joins the scene as well as his helper Frenchie (who's in a helicopter). All four do their best to hold off the Secret Empire goons, and Spidey even uncovers the identity of the faux-Moon Knight. He's a young man named Jeff (aka Midnight), who claims Moon Knight killed his parents. During the battle Jeff is seemingly killed by the Secret Empire army when he takes a shot intended for the real Moon Knight. The real Moon Knight is knocked from atop the building when Jeff was 'killed'. Spider-Man swoops in a saves Moon Knight from falling to his death. The Secret Empire soldiers leave and destroy Spider-Man's Spider-tracer as well. As the story ends, Punisher joins the group saying, "You don't even know what you're up against. This is my kind of fight." The unlikely trio are now working together.
340.300
The Punisher immediately creates an almost untenable dynamic between the heroes. He's a cold-blooded killer, looking for revenge wherever he can find it. Spider-Man tries to play peace-keeper between Moon Knight and Punisher, as Castle encourages Moon Knight to be more ruthless if they want to succeed. Castle is also extensively aware of the operations of the Secret Empire, so unfortunately for Moon Knight and Spider-Man, they need him around. Moon Knight's pal Frenchie was able to track the receiver in Jeff's Moon Knight costume (they took his 'dead' body with them last issue) to a junkyard in New Jersey. Spider-Man, Punisher and Moon Knight investigate the junkyard and soon find themselves under attack by Secret Empire goons. As they move into the secret facility, the three heroes argue over tactics, Punisher then splits off on his own because they all can't agree on how to fight (kill or no kill). Suddenly, Spider-Man and Moon Knight are attacked by a mecha-armored soldier. They're able to defeat the soldier and eventually make their way through the hideout. They track down someone who looks to be a leader and Moon Knight threatens to kill him if he doesn't give him information on Jeff's whereabouts. The Secret Empire member claims to not know and after the Punisher exchanges a few words with him (he whispers something), Castle tosses him in a trash compactor and kills him on the spot. Moon Knight is furious and attacks Castle. Spidey breaks up the fight and the maintain their uneasy trust in each to continue searching for Jeff.

The three allies make their way to the Secret Empire stronghold in New Jersey and immediately begin their assault on the headquarters. The Secret Empire's grand plan is the revealed, they want to launch a "killer satellite" that will claw space objects from the sky...thus allowing them to take over the world's communication systems. Meanwhile, as the heroes plan their attack on the true HQ of the Secret Empire (which is a mall that's been under construction for years...aptly named 'Empire Mall'), Spider-Man pleads with Moon Knight to not have tactics like the Punisher. Moon Knight attacks Punisher once again when Castle insults his friend Jeff (saying he's a vegetable at best at this point), Spider-Man once again breaks up the fight. The three then put their differences aside and attack the Empire Mall. Eventually they're able to penetrate the stronghold, stop the rocket and subdue their leader. But Moon Knight nearly kills him after he claims to not know the whereabouts of his friend. Spider-Man stops Moon Knight, who realizes that was the right decision. The Punisher ridicules Moon Knight for not killing the villain, but Moon Knight basically tells him to screw off. The heroes eventually depart each other's company. The story concludes by showing the Spector's friend Jeff was not killed. Note* According to Spider-Man's inner monologue, this story arc takes place over roughly 24 hours.

When a firefighter named Jerry walks into Roxie's Diner he sees a Daily Bugle newspaper that says "Roscoe Building Burns. Spider-Man Responsible?" Jerry then goes ahead and tells the story of what actually happened the night before. And, surprise, surprise, Spider-Man didn't burn the building down he was trying to save the people inside...including the firefighter Jerry! It was actually a arsonist named Blowtorch who burned the building down. Spider-Man defeats him, saves Jerry the firefighter then takes off before anyone in the media can find out the real story. Jerry concludes the story by saying, "ya can't believe everything you read in the papers!" Note* Original MCP list has this as a "flashback (FB" entry. However, the 'flashback' that it is referring to is within the story. Our rules at Spiderfan are that any within story flashbacks are removed for simplicity sake. This story of a firefighter talking about an event that happened the night before does not justify the use of the 'FB' tag.

As Spider-Man is web-swinging through the city, he witnesses a massive explosion at the Daily Bugle building. He rushes over to help any victims, luckily the explosion was contained to a storage area within the building. As Spider-Man attempts to enter the burning building, he's shot in the back by an assassin named Mind Storm. Spidey appears to plummet down to the streets below. Nick Fury is close by and in hot pursuit of Mind Storm, he fire a kill shot, taking the villain out. He and his partner Hitchcock discuss Mind Storm's tactics, and it turns out the villain prefers to inject his victims with a psychedelic toxin to make them hallucinate wildly (and then die!). On the streets below it turns out that Spidey's instinct for survival saved him, as he soon wakes up dangling from a web-line attached to a lamp post. The crowd below believes he's responsible for the Daily Bugle explosion (they read the Daily Bugle of course!), and they begin screaming at him. As Spidey's conscious mind slowly returns, he sees the humans below as misfigured demons (from the mind-altering drugs), so he flees in terror. He tries to find his way home, because he thinks he's entered another dimension (he's unaware he was shot by Mind Storm). Along the way he sees a J. Jonah Jameson billboard that attacks him, and he soon becomes convinces that JJJ is key to finding his way home. Spidey makes his way to the Daily Bugle offices to confront JJJ about finding a way home. Instead of seeing a normal JJJ, he's sees a demonic version of him (and Joe Robertson for that matter!). When Spidey attacks the two of them, a SHIELD helicopter arrives to 'arrest' Spider-Man. The web-slinger eventually breaks free of the steel tentacles holding him, but Fury fires a shot at him with a dose of an antidote (they had made one from the leftover toxin Mind Storm had when they killed him). Spidey then returns to normal and Nick Fury vouches for his behavior to JJJ (not that it sways Jameson's opinion in any way).

When a member of a rebel Skrull cadre named De'Lila arrives on Earth to attain the Inorganic Technotroid (ITT) egg, her first stop in the Fantastic Four Headquarters. After defeating and detaining the FF, she then uses Reed Richard's database to find other 'beings' to help her achieve her goals. Once she's identified them, De'Lila triggers Reed's 'mental alarm resonator' to bring the to the FF HQ. Spider-Man, Hulk, Ghost Rider and Wolverine are the four she selects and they all eventually arrive the FF base. Spider-Man's Spider-sense is what guides him to the building. When they arrive they're greeted by 'Sue Richards' (De'Lila shape-shifts), who tells the four heroes that her family was killed while she was out shopping. The four heroes clearly want to help, so De'Lila gives them a Subphotonic Spectroanalyzer to track the energy signal of the 'assassins'. Spider-Man, Hulk, Wolverine and Ghost Rider prepare to go find the killers and even dub themselves the new Fantastic Four.
344.100
The tracking device sends the four unlikely companions south and en route they come across (and hear news reports of) giant monsters wreaking havoc throughout the world. One monster is destroying a passenger plane so the four heroes stop to fight the monster and save the plane. Oddly, the monster goes stiff, stops attacking the plane and flies off. The heroes follow the monster but are nearly sucked into the Bermuda Triangle! They are able to avoid the Bermuda Triangle (the Hulk is actually piloting the ship!), regain the tracking signal and follow the monster to a seemingly deserted island. The tracking device leads them to the Mole Man and his army, everyone is confused at this point. Mole Man says he's already caught the killers, and they're a group of Skrulls. Once the Skrulls see the tracking device Spider-Man is using (from 'Sue Richards') they immediately explain what's going on. They're there to capture the rebel De'Lila (aka faux Sue Richards) and De'Lila sent Spidey, Hulk, Ghost Rider and Wolverine after the Skrulls to help her escape (and get the ITT!). Suddenly, faux-Sue Richards and the real Reed Richards arrive...and things are about to get crazy!
344.200
All hell breaks loose as De'Lila uses her telepathic powers to convince Mole Man (and thus his army) that she is the victim. Mole Man then prepare to kill the Skrulls as Spidey, Hulk and the others prepare to protect them. Spider-Man begins to realize that the De'Lila must have been using this power on the FF (and others) the whole time, and that the real FF may not be dead after all. De'Lila and Reed escape whilst everyone was occupied with their confused feelings over who to kill. The heroes search the deep caves to find De'Lila and eventually track her down, just as she located the ITT (aka the 'egg'). The Hulk eventually frees the ITT from its containment unit and when De'Lila tries to abscond with it, the stop her. However, the Mole Man (who is still under De'Lila's mind control) arrives with his army and corners the heroes. In the nick of time however, the true Fantastic Four arrives on the scene (Franklin had freed them from the detainment that they were in)! Spider-Man then makes his way to De'Lila to make sure she doesn't get the ITT. She shapeshifts into MJ, temporarily confusing Spidey, and then blasts him! In the end, the Skrulls trigger a failsafe with the ITT, and detonate it as a bomb...this prevents anyone from getting it. The heroes are able to defeat De'Lila (turns out Reed Richards was playing along with the mind control bit the whole time) and they send the Skrulls back home. This leaves only Mole Man who attempts to battle all the heroes. Spider-Man then approaches Mole Man and basically says look you don't stand a chance against us...Mole Man reconsiders and guides them all to the surface!

Spider-Man goes out on patrol one evening, in the pouring rain, because he's hoping to snap some photos to sell to the Daily Bugle. Earlier in the day he had been out shopping with MJ and she fell in love with a brooch that they couldn't afford. Spidey's luck turned around that night as he catches the Eel mid-jewelry heist...unfortunately though, Spider-Man literally can't catch the Eel (he's too slippery!). They battle for a bit on the rooftop and eventually both nearly fall to the ground. Spidey casts a giant web net that catches both of them. The two end up in a quandry, Spidey can't catch him because he's too slippery and the Eel can't get down from the net without Spidey's help. The solution...Spidey removes his Eel costume (makes him temporary covering out of webbing) and hands him over to the authorities. The icing on the cake, Spidey even gets some photos of the scantily-clad Eel! Oddly, Spidey even considers blackmailing the Eel so the photos won't get out, but then decides since the Eel is going to jail, he doesn't want to get paid in license plates.

When the Avengers ratify their new Charter, they officially create a Reserve Avengers team...and Spider-Man makes the team! Spider-Man, Falcon, Hercules, Captain Marvel (Monica Rambeau) and the Black Knight comprise the New Avengers Reserve Substitutes and are formally announced publicly by Captain America. J. Jonah Jameson is there in attendance, and he's not particularly happy about Spidey's new role. They also introduce two 'Probationary' Avengers (that would join the Reserves) Sandman and Rage! Surprisingly, the reserves are called into immediate action when the beings Yod, Hafga, Vug and Heml abduct the "first team" Avengers!
347.650
When the Reserve Avengers are deflected by the mystical villains force field, the group is forced to retreat and come up with a new plan to help the original Avengers (who had been abducted). Back at the Avengers HQ, Captain Marvel (aka Monica Rambeau) proposes a two pronged approach for the reserve team. First, two rescue the primary Avengers, second, to prevent villains from capitalizing on their absence. Hercules objects to this and the group squabbles over what they should do. Before they can figure out an agreed upon plan, the primary Avengers return with their captors. It turns out that the Tetrarchs (the 'villains' that abducted them) are not as evil as they seem and appear to be allies with the Avengers!

After Darkhawk manages to escape a confrontation with the Hobgoblin (one Darkhawk was losing), the villain went looking for him in a place he'd been recently seen (an old amusement park site in Queens). Peter Parker was at his aunt's house enjoying a quiet evening when he spots the Hobgoblin, he thus feels obliged to go after the villain. Chris Powell (aka Darkhawk) witnesses Spider-Man and Hobgoblin's battle and decides he needs to intervene as well (after all, Hobgoblin was there looking for him). It's perfect timing because Hobgoblin gets the upper hand against the web-slinger after an explosion hit Peter's "nerve center" making him unable to move. Darkhawk fends off the Hobgoblin and eventually Spider-Man's strength returns and he's able to contribute. The two heroes eventually defeat Hobgoblin, but when Darkhawk threatens to break Hobgoblin's neck, the villain blasts him with an energy blast and escapes on his glider. Spider-Man issues some sage advice to Darkhawk about not killing your enemies, then he swings off leaving Darkhawk with his thoughts.

When Darkhawk continues his effort to dismantle the crimelord Bazin's operations, the Hobgoblin attacks him. Apparently the villain was aware of Darkhawk's war with Bazin, and since he wanted to settle his vendetta (from Darkhawk #2) with the hero, he just lingered around Bazin's operations as well. However, Spider-Man suddenly arrives (he had placed a Spider-tracer on Darkhawk) and he takes on the Hobgoblin as well as Bazin's crew. While Spider-Man neutralizes the gun-toting thugs, Hobgoblin and Darkhawk duke it out. Eventually Darkhawk gets the upper hand and attempts to strangle the villain. Spider-Man urges him to stop, and when a random couple happens to pass by the melee, Darkhawk gets distracted. Hobgoblin uses the opportunity to snatch the woman as a hostage and escape. Once the Hobgoblin is clear, he drops the woman, Spider-Man then catches her with a web-net. Darkhawk, furious that Hobgoblin got away, exclaims, "Just when I had him!" Spider-Man then punches Darkhawk in the face and calls him a jerk. Spider-Man is fed up with Punishers, Wolverines and psychos of the world. He lumps Darkhawk into that category. The two heroes leave on bad terms and Spidey's part word to Darkhawk is, "idiot." *Note (No Adjective) Spider-Man #7 was referenced in this story, so this must take place after that issue.

He then tells the young man to be more careful otherwise he'll end up as a 'street pizza.' Spidey then swings off on his way.

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance when he stops Thunderball from robbing a bank. The villain knows he's outmatched and tries to plead with Spidey to let him go, but the web-slinger does not comply. The two battle it out in Washington Square Park and, as the title of the series suggests, damage to public property is caused when Thunderball's wrecking ball damages an arch. Spidey is able to stop the villain, he then swings off as Damage Control takes over the scene.

Spider-Man makes a brief non-speaking cameo at the formal gala celebrating the opening of the new Avengers Headquarters. Interestingly, Spider-Man appears to be talking to Princess Diana and Prince Charles! He's also within arm's-length of President George H. W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush!

Spider-Man makes a handful of non-speaking cameos as an attendee of the Avenger's new Headquarter's Opening party. Doom has infiltrated the party and a handful of the Avengers are aware and actively trying to stop him. Spider-Man appears, for the most part, unaware of what Doom is up to. Eventually Doom reveals he was never actually at the party, but he still had a neutron bomb close by. However, the device he's looking for (an interdimensional transport), the Avengers were not in possession of. Doom believes they're telling the truth and eventually leaves on his accord. Sandman proves his merit as an Avenger, which leads into the plot of Amazing Spider-Man #348.

[Pg. 9 panels 1 - 4] During this flashback sequence, Spider-Man recalls the events shortly after his battle with Corona (which ended in her defeat and her evil brother taking her back to do experiments upon). In order to get her more help, Spider-Man seeks out a scientist "a lot more skilled than [he]". Spidey calls Pym, Hank McCoy and Reed Richards. The first two decline to help (too many other problems of their own) and Reed Richards doesn't pick up. Interestingly, Reed Richards was willing to help at the conclusion of Spectacular Spider-Man #177, but was unable to because Corona's brother (Cedric Forrester) took custody of her. Perhaps Spider-Man was trying to see if Reed would be still willing to help. *Note, the original MCP list had this flashback placed before the Corona story (Spectacular Spider-Man #176 and #177). However, this flashback sequence clearly depicts this events happening after she was mutated and back in the custody of her brother. So this entry is placed directly after those two issues.

On assignment for the Daily Bugle, Peter Parker covers the convergence of two different protests at Washington Square Park (one pro-war, the other anti-war), and the two sides begin fighting. Peter decides to go change into his Spider-Man costume to help calm things down as the web-slinger. While he's gone, the Foolkiller kills (by literally melting) one of the anti-war protesters who attacked a pro-war protester. Foolkiller says to the protester, "Do you always demonstrate for peace by grabbing other people's property and kicking them in the face?" When Spidey returns donning his costume, he says that things have gotten really out of hand and he spots a young boy who is about to get mauled in the melee. Spidey seems unaware that the Foolkiller had struck. After returning the boy to his mother, he swings off to get his camera. He hopes that there's images on there that will help him see what has happened. However, Spider-Man is not seen again in story. Note* This is an atypical Spider-Man guest appearance for this era. As per usual, Spider-Man is prominently featured on the cover of the book, however, unlike basically every other guest appearance in this era, Spider-Man plays a very marginal role in the story itself. Typically, Spider-Man garners as much of the narrative as the titular character and is critical to the story's plot. Spider-Man is neither in this book, and his appearance on the cover is almost used satirically.

Danny Ketch (aka the Ghost Rider) and the Hobgoblin (Philip Macendale, now in his demonic state) converge on a corrupt church. The Hobgoblin was there to kill the blasphemers (he had found religion at this point) and Ketch's mother was a victim of the church's corruption. When Ketch sees the Hobgoblin, he's immediately reminded of the events from (No Adjective) Spider-Man #7 and he goes after the demonic Hobgoblin. Mayhem ensues as Hobgoblin tries to kill the corrupt church leaders and Ketch tries to kill Hobgoblin. Spider-Man arrives on the scene, and prevents Ketch from killing Hobgoblin (the plot here is eerily similar to the one featured in Darkhawk #2 - #3). As Spider-Man tries to stop Ghost Rider, the Hobgoblin takes Ketch's mother (to save her from this den of demons) and leaves on his glider. Ghost Rider and Spider-Man part ways, with Ketch telling Spider-Man to stop interfering. *Note This story takes place after (No Adjective) Spider-Man #7.

Spider-Man eventually catches up with the Ghost Rider in Forrest Park, Queens and warns him that he is not to kill Hobgoblin. The original Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze) also arrives on the scene and blasts the two with Hellfire gun, separating them. Spider-Man then bails and says he'll find Hobgoblin on his own. Spidey is unable to track the Hobgoblin at first, so he's forced to find Ketch once again. However, after tracking down Ketch his Spider-tracer that he placed on the Hobgoblin re-activates. Spider-Man returns on his hunt for the Hobgoblin. Eventually all the heroes (Spider-Man, Ketch, and Blaze) converge on the Hobgoblin using their weapon of choice. Johnny Blaze unleashes hellfire, Ghost Rider his mystical chain (a form of hellfire) and Spider-Man his...webbing. The Hobgoblin is defeated. Ketch saves his mother, and does not kill the Hobgoblin making Spider-Man happy with him. Ketch leaves the defeated Hobgoblin in the hands of Spider-Man who presumably hands him over to the authorities. *Note this story takes place after Darkhawk #3.

[Pg. 21 panels 3 - 4] This flashback sequence depicts an event at which The Void appeared to reemerge from banishment. A black shroud covers the city. The narration notes that Sentry is "missing". Its difficult to place this moment in the chronology, MCP list places it here and there's no reason to not place it here (just as there is no direct evidence for placing it here either). So we'll leave these two panels here.

Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo when the villain Maelstrom attempts to stop the Earth from spinning using quantum bands and his control of kinetic energy. After receiving a tip from Ben Urich about the location of the recent emerging crimelord, the aptly named Crimewave, Spider-Man stalks out the gangster from a nearby building. Sleepwalker, curious to understand Spider-Man, arrives on the scene and ultimately blows Spider-Man's cover. After their tussle, Sleepwalker returns home, uncertain whether Spider-Man is a friend or foe. The next day, Spidey tracks down Rick Sheridan (using his Spider-tracer), who is the daytime host of Sleepwalker. Spider-Man is confused as to why his tracer led him to Rick (technically it was the dog that ate tracer after Sleepwalker re-entered Rick's mind). When Spidey's botched attempt to stop a yacht-heist perpetrated by Crimewave's henchmen, Sleepwalker bails him out. Unfortunately the help is not enough and when Crimewave destroys the yacht with a rocket launcher, Spidey is knocked unconscious and washed to shore. Spider-Man ends up Crimewave's captive. Note* See review for more story detail.

Crimewave plans to use Spider-Man's capture to prove his worth and allow him to take over all of the criminal rackets (pretty much a Ditko-Green Goblin strategy). Crimewave first tries to impress Kingpin with this information, but NYC crimelord is persuaded by executing this "costumed clown" and he breaks his ties with Crimewave. Meanwhile, Sleepwalker magically weaves a Spider-Man costume from the textile factory warehouse (which is where Spidey was held captive) and swaps places with Spider-Man. When Crimewave goes to unmask Spidey he finds the alien face of Sleepwalker! All hell breaks loose and Spider-Man and Sleepwalker are able to escape. They eventually track down Crimewave again (with the help of Kingpin and one of Crimewave's henchwomen whom he treated poorly) and they're able to detain him for the authorities. Spider-Man and Sleepwalker part as newfound allies.

Spider-Man gets pulled into an adventure when Cloak and Dagger after he photographs a mysterious lance that had punctured a building twenty stories in the sky. Apparently a girl had been girl by the lance, although her body was removed before he'd taken the pics. After taking the photos, Spider-Man leaves but is soon sucked into a 'black field' and finds himself six miles from where he was two seconds ago. Now atop the Statue of Liberty, Spidey makes his way back to Manhattan via the ferry and returns to the site of the lance. Shortly after, Dagger comes through a black hole, with a man on her back and behind another lance with four dead teenagers skewered by it. As the lance speeds towards innocent bystanders below, Spider-Man webs it up and prevents it from hurting anyone else. He also grabs Dagger and the man holding on to her, Erich. Erich was working with the nazis that Dagger had infiltrated so he gets handed over to the authorities. The story ends with Cloak and Dagger resolving that they must return to the nazi base in Colorado, called Schamballan, and take it down.
348.820
Immediately picking up from the last is, Spider-Man contemplates where he's going to head toward next. Cloak and Dagger have different plans for the web-slinger though, and they take him along with them to Colorado to stop the neo-nazi regime. Spidey suddenly finds himself inside the neo-nazi stronghold (they transported through Cloak's dark energy) without any clue as to what the heck is actually going on. Cloak had brought Spider-Man along because his powers had become unreliable (interesting foot note, literally the last panel of the previous issue Cloak said he was in full control of his powers, so things are flip-flopping very quickly here apparently). Suddenly, Thule's (the neo-nazi leader) black energy field sends Spider-Man into hysterics via his Spider-sense. Dagger is forced to try to hold Spidey and maintain their hidden status in the base. That ultimately breaks down as the nazis spot the two of them and all hell breaks loose. Thule also prepares to kill another victim with the lance using the Eye of Force (which is a giant swastica with an eyeball in the middle of it). A battle royale ensues with Vril, the name of the neo-nazi clan, as Spidey, Cloak and Dagger battle the nazis and save the female hostage. Eventually, Cloak's dark energy unveils the true form of the Vril...they're actually demons! The ruckus causes the building to collapse. The heroes find themselves falling through a giant pit deep underground as the floor gives out. They fall right into the hands of the dark lord himself...Mephisto!!
348.840
Suddenly finding themselves in the domain of Mephisto, the three heroes are surprisingly joined by another guest...the Spirit of Vengeance, Ghost Rider! As the four heroes battle the hordes of Mephisto's monsters, the villain makes an interesting pit-stop mid-battle. Mephisto finds Thanos and offers him the 'life energies' of Cloak, Dagger and Spider-Man. Thanos turns him down (as he's preparing for the Infinity Gauntlet saga) and says he does not care for those three souls, he wants to control the entire universe! Mephisto then returns to his dominion. The heroes are victorious against Mephisto's hordes, but soon find themselves facing a giant monstrous form of Mephisto himself. He scoops up all four heroes into two hands, and swallows Cloak and Dagger whole! Spider-Man and Ghost Rider, on the other hand (literally), are able to break from Mephisto's grip an escape on Ghost Rider's motorcycle. Inside Mephisto's stomach, Cloak and Dagger witness their own personal hell. Spider-Man and Ghost Rider flee just in time to see the entire dominion collapse on itself. Spidey begs the Ghost Rider to go back to save Cloak and Dagger, but the rider simply says, "Vengeance will best be served...later, Spider-Man." Spider-Man, presumably, returns to New York. He's not seen in this arc again.

[Pgs. 3 - 18] Flashback story featuring an early encounter between Spider-Man, Silver Sable and Doctor Strange. Spider-Man describes this as the time when he got to know the "real Silver Sable." [Pg. 2 panel 5] This single panel flashback features an interaction with Spider-Man and an avid collector of his named Ray Hastings. In this scene, Spider-Man berates Hastings by saying, "I almost had Doctor Doom until I tripped over you and this stupid *bleep*..." The placement by MCP was squeezed in to the middle of Spectacular Spider-Man #162. Not only does it not fit there (Doom not featured in that story), there's no room for it either. This entry was moved into an interaction with Doom that fits this timeline, namely between Amazing Spider-Man #349 and 350. Interestingly, Doom and Spidey actually work together throughout most of that interaction, so its actually difficult to find a scene where Spider-Man is "after" Doom. However, in between the two issues, when Doom had just arrived at the conclusion of ASM 349, Spider-Man cautiously approaches Doom because he does not know why he's after the Black Fox. Fresh off a battle with Morbius, Spider-Man is web-slinging through the city as he notes to himself that the just found out that Hobgoblin had just broken out of prison and is on a killing spree. Thus, Spider-Man is out on the lookout the Hobgoblin. The demonic-half of Macendale's Hobgoblin had found religion and continuing his killing spree of sinners, in this case he's looking particularly at mercenaries. When the Hobgoblin tracks down Moon Knight's ally and friend "Frenchie" (a former mercenary), Spider-Man is there to defend him. As Spidey pummels the Hobgoblin, the villain doses him with a poisonous gas and makes his escape. Frenchie recognizes Macendale (the demonic Hobgoblin in unstable and his face oscillates between Macendale and a demon). Frenchie realizes that Hobgoblin is going after former mercenaries, he realizes his estranged friend Marc Spector may be next. Spider-Man agrees to help Frenchie stop the Hobgoblin. *Note This story, takes place soon after the events of (No Adjective) Spider-Man #14. Spider-Man is still wearing his black costume and he references the events saying he just got finished with Morbius and hasn't even gotten a chance to go home and change out his black costume. Editor's note reminds reader that that was in SM 14. As another interesting note to this story, the Hobgoblin claims that he's been in great pain (and less stable, thus the flip-flopping between human and demon) since he was blasted by the hellfire from Johnny Blaze and the Ghost Rider. The editor's note says that that happened in Ghost Rider #14. That's actually inaccurate, the occurred while Spider-Man was present in Ghost Rider #16.

Spider-Man and Frenchie make their way to Marc Spector's estate in Frenchie's helicopter. Upon arrival they crash in through the window after watching Moon Knight and Hobgoblin duking it out. Spider-Man is convinced Moon Knight is going to kill the Hobgoblin (based off of their prior interactions). However, Moon Knight can tell Macendale is in great pain and he offers to help his fellow former-mercenary. Moon Knight asks Spidey to let him handle this himself, that he simply wants to talk to Macendale to help him. In an almost hypocritical spin on his usual stance, Spidey responds, "You picked a heck of a time to go soft on me!" But Macendale appears to succumb further to the demon and seems almost unreachable. Moon Knight tries to reason with him and tells him to fight the demon back. As the demon appears to be getting the upper hand with Macendale, Spider-Man takes a stand. He says, "enough of this!" and shoots a webline to the Hobgoblin and whips him off his glider and through the window. Macendale comes crashing down outside on the ground below. Spidey's lack-of-patience strategy appeared to pay off as Macendale, now fully human, claims that the shock of the fall appears to have done the trick as he no longer struggles with his demonic persona. When the group tries to detain Macendale, he tosses a pumpkin bomb and escapes. Soon after, Macendale radios his glider to join him but Spider-Man and Moon Knight (via Spidey's webline) ride the glider to Macendale's location. Moon Knight attacks Macendale and nearly kills him but Spider-Man holds him back (what about that "going soft" comment?). Moon Knight's wrath was provoked because during Macendale's escape he nearly killed his girlfriend Marlene. Spector doesn't kill Macendale (thanks to Spidey) and the defeated criminal is presumably (once again) handed over to the authorities. *Note, whilst riding with Frenchie in his helicopter to Marc Spector's estate, Spider-Man says, "[I've never seen] a chopper chauffeur handle a gun like you did earlier." Well, Spidey should certainly be aware of Frenchie's skillset since, not long before this, the two fought alongside each other against the Secret Empire in Marc Spector Moon Knight #20!

"A Spider-Man Carol" Web-slinging through the city two days before Christmas, Spider-Man helps an ambulance make its way through a traffic jam, he heads over to the children's floor of Midtown Hospital. He changes into his civilian clothes because he's there on assignment alongside J. Jonah Jameson because the Daily Bugle is donating a million dollars to the hospital. After snapping a photo of the event, Peter tells Jonah he's gotta run, Jameson is not too pleased. Minutes later, Spider-Man comes swinging into the hospital to cheer up the kids (their clown never showed). When Jameson attacks Spider-Man as a no-good vigilante, the kids start coming to Spidey's defense. They recall events throughout Spidey's history (including references to ASM 1, ASM 63, ASM 248, and WOSM 4). Within the hospital, criminals have broke in to steal the safe. Spidey slips away because his Spider-sense draws him to the criminals. Their battle eventually makes its way to the children's floor, and suddenly Spider-Man, the kids, and J. Jonah Jameson are teaming up to fight the criminals. They succeed beating the bad guys and Spidey swings off. The kids as Jameson if he'll change his tune about Spider-Man, he says sure...until next year.

Peter Parker and Mary Jane make a brief single panel cameo as witnesses to brawl between Kingpin and the Daredevil which leaks out into the New York streets. MJ suggests Peter should be "doing that thing...that friendly neighborhood thing spider..." Peter quickly interrupts and says that Daredevil has it under control. Peter even encourages DD to "give him one for me...!" Daredevil recognizes Peter's voice in the crowd as a the Daily Bugle photojournalist. Peter and MJ are not seen again in this story. *Note Original MCP placement of this entry was in between Web Of Spider-Man #88 and 89 (parts 5 and 6 to the "Name of the Rose" story arc). It does not fit there for multiple reasons. For one, WOSM 88 references DD 300, so DD 300 must take place before WOSM 88. Second, Kingpin is deposed at the time of the "Name of the Rose" arc in WOSM, in the DD 300 story, Kingpin is still leading his crime syndicate. Thus, this story was moved back a bit from its original MCP placement to fit the chronology better.

Peter Parker makes a brief cameo as his Spider-sense is alerted when Steve Harmon goes through a portal in a funhouse mirror that takes him to an alien dimension. This is how Steve becomes the character Slapstick! Peter is not seen again in the story. This panel is used in an almost satirical manner acknowledging the seemingly millions of time Spider-Man has been used in a story (via his alerted Spider-sense) that something has gone terribly wrong somewhere far away. Spider-Man is joined by others like the Watcher, Dr. Strange and other cosmically connected characters in that sequence (similar to what would be shown in past stories as well).

When his Spider-sense is triggered, he throws the shopping bags to MJ and runs off. After a misstep sends Spidey crashing into a clearance sale of his unsold "Webs" books, he finally makes his way to the Punisher/Slapstick mayhem. Spidey's too late though, Slapstick had already neutralized the Punisher, but the web-head webs up the Punisher anyway. Slapstick then gawks at MJ's beauty! Later, Peter uncovers that Slapstick had ruined the roll of film of pics he'd taken from the melee.

When Johnny arrives at the vehicle he's startled at first by then realizes that the web-head was playing a gag on him. Nevertheless, Johnny was not in the mood for games so he goes right after Spidey after the web-slinger gives him the ol' Bugs Bunny commentary, "what up, doc?" What follows is an extremely fraternal interaction as two exchange blows and insults over the New York City streets. Throughout the exchange however, Spidey does show his empathy towards his friend and Johnny even opens up about what actually happened. He explains that Alicia was an alien and that you shouldn't believe everything you read in the papers. Spider-Man wholeheartedly agrees with that sentiment. Storm also confirms to Spidey that he and Grimm as still close, they're practically family. Johnny even thanks Spidey for this goofy around as it provided a great distraction from the stress he'd been feeling. When the Torch makes one final attempt to subdue Spidey, the web-slinger leads him right into a water tower...extinguishing the Human Torch. The two enjoy a good laugh together agreeing that they are both loud-mouthed jerks!

Daredevil convinces Spider-Man to go undercover as bait to catch a murder named Surgeon General (aka Angeline Kutter). This female killer would pick up men at night clubs and kill them, so Peter Parker, donning a fake mustache, heads to the club to pull her out of the woodwork. The plan works and Spidey and Daredevil are soon on the chase after the killer. Unfortunately, the Surgeon General evades their first attempt to catch her. DD was able to confront the killer in her ambulance getaway car, but she launches him out of the back of the ambulance. Spidey saves the Daredevil by breaking his fall with a web-net. Despite the Surgeon General's escape, Spidey does hand over one bit of good news. He was able to tag her with a Spider-tracer before she took off. The two heroes resolve to catch the killer. Continued into the next issue.

Spider-Man and Daredevil's lead goes cold after they track Spidey's tracer to an abandoned hideout of the Surgeon General (aka Angeline Kutter). She did leave a nice token behind for the two though, the Spider-tracer with a knife through it! The two heroes begin sifting through the trash and biological waste left behind by Kutter and her crew. Eventually DD tells Spidey to use his webbing to pick up an indention in some of the waste. Spidey does and his webbing reveals a key with the word "Medeko" on it. The two then follow up on that lead, but they end up in an empty office building near the World Trade Center Port Authority. Whilst there, Daredevil recognizes the smell in the area and its association with Kutter. Daredevil resolves she spends a lot of time in this area, she must be comfortable here. Shortly after, the Surgeon General and her poison a group of restaurant-goers (unbeknownst to the staff of that restaurant) and then arrive on the scene as EMS to help the victims. This gives them the perfect haul to do a mass-organ extraction. However, Spider-Man and Daredevil come crashing in through the ceiling and attempt to stop them before its too late. Kutter's crew tries to escape with the organs, but Spider-Man stops them by webbing up the wheels on the ambulance. Daredevil is able to neutralize Kutter as well. Their operation is shut down and they're handing over to the authorities. The Daily Bugle even covers the story showing both DD and Spidey as the heroes for stopping the illegal organ-extraction ring!

When Peter Parker is alongside Joy Mercado covering the developing situation of Hydra agents seizing a dormitory at the Cranewood School for Girls in Northhampton, Long Island, Peter realizes he needs to act. He tells Joy that he can't get a good shot from where he was currently standing so he needs to move a new location. Obviously Peter is off to go change into his Spider-Man costume and while he's doing so he hears a gunshot fired from the roof. When he gets there he sees Silver Sable (she's there because her niece, Anna, goes to the school and she is one of her last living relatives), she had just taken out a Hydra agent. She tells Spider-Man to leave, that she's got this covered. Spidey doesn't listen and joins her as she makes her way inside the dormitory. After Spidey's direct-attack tactics annoy her further, she tells him to go get recon outside the dorm (Spidey jokes to himself that she always makes him feel like amateur). Whilst outside, Spider-Man witnesses the rest of Sable's Wild Pack join the fray (she told them not to come along either, but they did anyway as well). Spider-Man tracks down the hostages (ie which room they were in), he then goes back to tell Sable that he's found them. Soon after, he and Sable crash through the room where the hostages are being held....only to confront Sable's former lover, Dmitri, as the one behind the attack at Cranewood! At first, the terrorists have the upper hand, but Sandman (a Wild Pack member) helps turn the tide and soon the group of heroes has the terrorist cell defeated.

"Rise of the Midnight Sons" (Part 3 of 6). Peter Parker makes a brief cameo when the news of bloodless corpses reaches the Joe Robertson's office at the Daily Bugle. After overhearing that information, Peter realize Morbius must be the cause of those deaths.
363.540
As Morbius struggles to deal with needs of his vampirism (ie, the need to draw fresh blood from victims), he ultimately resolves to resort to a tactic that worked in the past...a dose of Spider-Man's blood. Unsure how to get into direct contact with the web-slinger, Morbius decides to draw him out of the woodwork. After draining the blood from an abusive pimp, Morbius takes that corpse and drops from atop the Daily Bugle building with a note, "Spider-Man, meet me where we last met tomorrow midnight. -Morbius." Peter. who had just been berated by J. Jonah Jameson for pursuing the supposed 'vampire killer', happened to be walking out of the building just as the corpse hits the ground.
363.560
A flashback sequence in this story shows that after being questioned by the police, Peter calls MJ and tells her that he must go out (as Spider-Man) and find Morbius. That evening, Spider-Man goes to meet with Morbius, he's been watched by an unknown figure though. When Spider-Man and Morbius eventually meet up, Spidey asks what does Morbius want. His response, "Some of your blood!" The web-slinger refuses (doesn't want to be a part of the mad-doctor experiment), but says that he'll get him whatever help he can. After a brief tussle, Morbius collapses to ground and calls Spidey a hypocrite who "defines [his] ethics on momentary whims." The two fight again, then Spidey disappears to contemplate what he should do, he realizes that Morbius cannot control his desire for blood. Spider-Man returns to Morbius and suggests that they talk. Morbius is through talking as the two battle it out once more. Their fight however, it cut short from the mysterious observer earlier in the story (a CIA operative named Simon Stroud), who fires two tranq darts into Spider-Man and Morbius, leaving them both unconscious. As Stroud approaches his targets and prepares to fire a kill-shot into Morbius, he's blasted in the back and knocked to the ground. Morbius is then scooped up by a group a people and the man leading them goes by the name Doctor Paine.
363.580
When Spider-Man comes to, Morbius is gone and Simon Stroud is standing next to him. Stroud explains that he is CIA agent and that he was there to 'sanction' Morbius. Spidey calls his bs and says that Stroud wanted to murder Morbius, Spider-Man refuses to work alongside him. He then swings off and is grateful that he placed a Spider-tracer on Morbius. Meanwhile, Morbius finds himself in the labs of Doctor Paine and the vampire is horrified to witness the abominations (as a result of human experimentation) that pervade Paine's lab. Morbius eventually summons the strength to break free from Paine's shackles, he then destroys Paine's lab. The evil doctor makes his escape though, and Morbius is forced to chase him down. Just as Morbius is making chase through the streets toward Paine, Spider-Man swoops down and tackles Morbius. The vampire is furious that Spider-Man is allowing Paine to escape. Spidey, who's not sure who Paine is anyway, uses the excuse that he can only deal with one monster at a time. As Spider-Man knocks Morbius off his feet and prepares to detain, Morbius says, "release me." And Spidey does. Morbius, surprised that Spidey complied, recalls that Paine mentioned Morbius may have latent psionic abilities...those powers must have began to manifest. Morbius realizes this is the perfect opportunity to get Spider-Man's blood. So keeping the web-slinger under mind-control, he tells him to roll up his sleeves...then he draws Spidey's blood. Morbius, again using the mind control, then tells Spider-Man, "From now on, you have more important thing to do than interfere in my life. Now go. You will forget the events of this night." With that, Spider-Man swings off into the night.

"Portals of Power" (Part 1) After Peter Parker asks for a slight increase in his compensation for his photography work for the Daily Bugle, he instead receives an earful from J. Jonah Jameson who then questions Parker's journalistic integrity. Luckily for Peter, this conversation is interrupted by the news that a battle has broken out between a man named Charles Little Sky (aka Portal) and the Guardsmen (aka the government's Iron Men) at the Crestmore Research labs on 38th street. Little Sky is at Crestmore to retake his armor, so he can once again be Portal. Peter leaves Jonah's office to go photograph the incident, but also to investigate as Spider-Man. Along the way, Spidey recalls Darkhawk's interaction with Portal and the question that it is not clear whether he's a good guy or bad guy. Darkhawk arrives at Crestmore first (he had heard the news as his alter ego Chris Powell), and he's immediately overwhelmed by a group of mutants who also converged on Crestmore. The Blob, Toad, Pyro, Phantazia and Sauron, capitalizing on the distraction caused by Portal, use the opportunity to attack the facility as well. Spider-Man's arrival helps to bail out Darkhawk, but that is only temporary as the villains quickly retake the upper hand. Little Sky, now fully garbed as Portal, decides that since Darkhawk had helped him in the past, he should help him now. Indeed, Portal helps Spider-Man and Darkhawk fend off the mutant attackers, who manage to escape after the Blob steals and car and grabs them. When Portal says he wants to return home, Darkhawk says that he's read up on his story and Portal's search for his true identity. Darkhawk claims that Spider-Man's allies (ie, the Avengers or the Fantastic Four) may help him find the answers he seeks. As Portal appears to change his mind, the three are attacked by the Sleepwalker who claims, "That armor shall be mine!"
363.740
"Portals of Power" (Part 2) Spider-Man struggles to maintain the sanity of this group as Sleepwalker's pursuit of Portal's armor sends things into disarray. Sleepwalker claims that since that suit has traveled multiple dimensions, it may help him return to the Mindscape Realm (from which he comes). Darkhawk, on the other hand, thinks Portal's suit will help him uncover various mysteries that he's been working to unravel. Portal doesn't care for either of their selfish interests and he vanishes via portal, leaving the three behind...but not before Spider-Man could place a Spider-tracer on him. All that was for nothing though, as Portal quickly finds the tracer and destroys it. Portal's next stop is the HQ of a fellow tribesmen, Thomas Fireheart (aka Puma). The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, however, arrive at the same location and abduct Portal while he is sleeping. Sauron then uses his mind-control powers to force him to generate a portal that will bring the villains to a weapons storage facility in Seattle. They're duped though, as Portal transports them to the middle of Times Square instead. That is where Spider-Man, Sleepwalker and Darkhawk find the villains and a battle royale ensues. During the melee, Spider-Man avoids a fire-blast from Pyro but his evasion sends him hurtling into one of Little Sky's portals and the web-slinger ends up in a terrifying and strange dimension!
363.760
"Portals of Power" (Part 3, continues from Darkhawk #20) As Spider-Man finds himself floating through a strange dimension, he's forced to dodge energy beams from giant monsters that swarm after him. Spider-Man quickly realizes he needs to find his way back. Meanwhile, Darkhawk, Portal and Sleepwalker continue to battle the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in the city streets. Eventually the trio is successful at subduing the villains. Before Portal leaves, he tells Sleepwalker he'll help him find the Mindscape Realm as a favor for his help with the mutants. Sleepwalker changes his favor request, he asks that Portal help them find Spider-Man. Portal explains that he tossed Spidey into the Dark Dimension, he then opens a portal to that realm. The energy-beam-blasting monsters come out first, and Darkhawk and Sleepwalker try to neutralize them. Suddenly, a grayish being emerges, not blasting energy beams, and two try to grab it. They cannot, but fortunately for them this turns out to be Spider-Man who has used his webbing to wrap himself like a mummy to protect himself from the monsters. With Spider-Man out, they close the portal, and then Little Sky departs as well. Spider-Man questions why they let him go (because both Sleepwalker and Darkhawk needed his help). They explain that Sleepwalker used his favor to help Spidey return from the Dark Dimension. A thankful Spider-Man then swings off into the city.

His conclusion, "The entire universe stands in grave peril." Meanwhile, back on Earth, Spider-Man is web-swinging through the city because he's unable to sleep. This scene clearly depicts Spider-Man's stalker, the Doppelganger. This perspective also depicts the Doppelganger leaving his perch and following Spidey into the night.

[Pg. 2] Magus and Thanos watch on a monitor as the Doppelganger begins his attack on Spider-Man. This scene depicts the early attack by Doppelganger against Spider-Man. *Note, the original MCP list placed the entire issue of FF 366 in between (No Adjective) Spider-Man #24 and Infinity War #1. Specifically it placed the entire FF 366 between page 14 and 15 of Infinity War #1. However, that cannot work because in FF 366, Reed Richards is attacked and defeated by his doppelganger. Yet, the attack by his doppelganger in Infinity War #1 does not begin until page 16. To correct this, only the pages featuring Spider-Man/Doppelganger (ie, on monitors of Magus and Thanos) are selected for entry in this list.

[Pgs. 13 - 15] While the Demogoblin and the Hobgoblin continue to battle it out, Spider-Man gains the upper hand against his evil twin and tosses him off the top of the building. "Ethereal Revisionism" (Infinity War Part 2). Spider-Man makes an appearance when Hawkeye spots him perched on the side of building and invites him to join the super-hero gathering at 4-Freedoms Plaza. Barton was surprised Spidey didn't know already, but the web-head said he's had a lot going on lately. Spidey also mentions that Reed may be just the guy he needs to help him with his recent problems. Hawkeye takes off without giving Spidey a ride, much to the web-slinger's chagrin. Spidey follows Hawkeye though and witnesses the Avenger attacked by his evil hawk-based doppelganger. Spider-Man then attacks this doppelganger and defeats him, knocking him unconscious (which doesn't help Spidey get the answers he needs). As Spider-Man goes to help the unconscious Barton, his Spider-sense alerts him to something behind him. It's Iron Man, who blasts Spidey with an energy field!

[Pg. 11 panel 1] Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo as the member of Silver Sable's Wild Pack scan through TV news reports covering the events of the Infinity War (essentially IW 1 and IW 2). The Hulk is shown carrying Spidey's unconscious body whilst also shoo-ing away the reporters telling them its none of their concern. *Note Spidey's unconscious body was last seen being carried by Thor, now he's in the arms of the Hulk. When we next see Spider-Man (in IW 3), he's in a hospital bed next to Hawkeye. Perhaps this sequence is depicting the Hulk carrying Spidey to the hospital after Thor handed him off to the Hulk. Not quite discontinuity, but not quite clear either.

"Nefarious Rhapsodies" (Infinity War Part 3) Spider-Man makes a brief appearance in a hospital bed alongside Hawkeye. The doctor tells Black Widow and Black Cat, who were sent there to keep on eye on them, that both will be fine. He says they'll simply need a few painkillers and some TLC, clearly they're sidelined for the rest of the Infinity War. Interestingly, Black Cat and Black Widow remark how they are not happy playing nursemaid but realize their lack of super-powers makes them ill-equipped to participate in the battles of the Infinity War.

On assignment for the Daily Bugle, Peter Parker attends a press conference in which (from reports at the NY Globe-Reporter) there is supposed 'dirt' on a presidential candidate. When the stage remains empty, the media begins to think the informant is having cold feet about providing the information. Suddenly, Peter's Spider-sense begins to alert him and the informant, Walt Weston appears on stage as if he was teleported there. Within moments Weston collapses off the edge of the stage and has a giant growth emerging on his neck. Peter knows foul play is involved. And since the candidates are on all on the west coast (vote-hunting), Peter knows he must go to California to pursue this further. An hour later he's on a plane ride to the west coast. Once he arrives he uses his Spider-sense to track the danger and ends up face to face with the West Coast Avengers at the Convention Center. His Spider-sense was not drawn to the West Coast Avengers, but rather the villains of Deathweb (named Arachne, Therak and Antro)! The three villains attack the Avengers and Spider-Man! (For a more detailed recap see Review)
364.100
Spider-Man leads the attack against the trio of Deathweb (despite Iron Man telling Spidey not to attack). The two groups battle it out and eventually Spidey and West Coast Avengers gain the upper hand against the spider-based villains. But that all changes when Julia Carpenter (aka Spider-Woman) arrives on the scene looking for her daughter, Rachel, who had wandered off. Julia joins the fray, but moments later, so does Rachel! The villains abduct her daughter and teleport out of the Convention Center. A distraught Carpenter heads after her old associate Mike Clemson to demand help on tracking Deathweb. When Clemson refuses, Spider-Man jumps in to add intimidation (he had followed Carpenter, even though Iron Man advised against both of them doing so). When the villains of Deathweb arrive at Clemson's HQ with their leader, the Manipulator, Julia demands to know where her daughter is. The Manipulator shows her Rachel, on a monitor in the arms of Arachne...who poised to kill Rachel. That is, unless Spider-Woman kills Spider-Man! (For a more detailed summary, see the Review)
364.120
Whilst Spider-Man is under the impression that he and Julia will team up to defeat the Manipulator (and save Rachel!), Spider-Woman has other thoughts. She attacks Spider-Man, at the request of the Manipulator, in order to save her daughter. The havoc wrought by their destroys Clemson's facilities, causing it to collapse on itself. The villains and Clemson leave before that happens, but Spidey and Carpenter eventually find themselves buried in rubble. Spider-Man admits that Spider-Woman was pulling her punches against him (ie, it was just a show to convince the Manipulator) and they both head out after Rachel (Spidey had put a Spider-tracer on the young girl earlier). The two are able to find Rachel because the villains had left her behind locked up at trailer park in Gardena. The West Coast Avengers, Spider-Man and Spider-Woman ultimately defeat the Deathweb trio. When they return Rachel to her father, he unloads on Julia for her lack of responsibility. When he leaves with Rachel, her father is corned by the Manipulator, he gives him an induced heart attack and kills him (in front of Spider-Man, Spider-Woman and Rachel). For a more detailed recap, see the review.

After Spider-Man spots an over-turned armored car, he swoops in one the scene which is covered with police officers. Lieutenant Stone, the lead on the scene, basically tells Spider-Man to scram...which he does, but not after snapping a few photos to sell to the Daily Bugle. Later in the evening, on his way home, his Spider-sense alerts him as he passes the Guggenheim Museum. Sure enough, Spidey finds the Absorbing Man, Titania and the new Thor lurking around the outside of the building. Once the trio breaks in (their goal was to steal the Golden Bull on display), Spidey comes crashing through the window to stop them. Spidey's entrance causes Creel and Titania to bail, leaving Spider-Man one on one with the new Thor! For a more in-depth look at the story, check out the review.
364.250
Spider-Man and Thor continue to battle out whilst Titania and Creel hit the road. Eventually Thor using is lightning powers to subdue Spider-Man and explain to him that they are both on the same side. Apparently, Thor had been conned by the Absorbing Man to help him with his relationship Titania. Then he pulled Thor into the gig to steal the Golden Bull. Soon after, Spider-Man and Thor corner Titania and Creel at an abandoned construction site. Creel and Titania were in the middle of an argument (she realized he had set her up to get caught by the cops to teach her a lesson). So the battle that ensues is a no-holds-barred ruckus with everyone fighting everyone else. Eventually, Lieutenant Stone and his crew arrive just as Spidey and Thor are neutralizing Creel and Titania. Spidey, presumably, then heads off into the night and home to his wife. Interestingly, Spidey tells Thor that the Avengers pay a stipend, Thor was unaware of that (hopefully he finds a way to get paid by the Avengers now thanks to Spidey). For a more in-depth analysis of this story, see the review.

All these years later, the boy, now a man, realizes that occurrence happened around the same time Spider-Man came on the scene. He decides, most likely as a money making scheme, to have a police sketch artist render the face of that wall-climbing young man from all those years ago. He'd then give that sketch to J. Jonah Jameson. Jameson agrees to this, despite the push back from Joe Robertson, and Peter gets the news of this development when he finds Jonah in a terrific mood. Peter can't do anything to stop but he ends up in a lucky situation. The sketch artist rendering looks exactly like Peter Parker...but from all those years ago (ie, more of crew-cut and glasses). Peter doesn't look anything like that anymore so he's off the hook...for now!

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance at the conclusion of this story when an alien race of Spider-monster-people (called Araknoids) send an army of spider-monsters (called The Scourge and/or Palp-kins) after Spidey in New York City. Their plan is to kill him and use his sacrificed body to wake their leader "The Scourging One" . They're drawn to Spider-Man because his costume resembles that of Arakthu, a mythological hero they want dead. When the Knights of Pendragon uncover this plot, from a heroic spider-monster person, named Arrakhyl, they teleport to NYC to warn Spider-Man. Spider-Man's Spider-sense is triggered by the arrival of the spider-monsters, but he does not see them first, instead he sees the Knights of Pendragon, thus he attacks them. Eventually things calms down and they point out the real monsters...

Spider-Man and the Knights of Pendragon have no trouble defeating the hordes of the Scourge, and soon send the monsters into retreat. When the dust settle, the Knights of Pendragon explain everything that's going on with Araknoids (see synopsis of KOP2 7). Spider-Man, intrigued by this mythological creature stuff, asks to join the Knights on their quest. The group teleports to the Nucleolus Axis and they take the to Malekyth (the evil leader of the Araknoids). He's flanked by other baddies known as the Ravagers. After Spidey takes out two of the Ravagers, Malekyth triggers the rise of Scourging One...after pushing a button he converts himself into a giant green monster hell-bent on destruction!
368.400
A massive battle ensues between the Ravagers/Malekyth-Scourge monster and Spider-Man/Knights of Pendragon. The heroes hold their own and eventually destroy the monster and neutralize the Ravagers. There's a even a classic "double-punch" sequence where Spider-Man and Albion punch the Scourge/Malekyth monster at the same time to deliver a crushing blow (a similar thing was done between Spider-Man and Daredevil in DD 270). After the villains are defeated, the heroes are left one problem. There's an armed nuclear warhead ready to go off and level a large portion of Arakne. In order to prevent this fate, they use their 'trans-shift' (their teleporting device) to target 'Ley Space' (the void between dimensions). Spider-Man then uses a web-line to hurl the bomb away from the group, the teleporting device does the rest. The group rejoices and Spider-Man asks for a lift back to New York City!

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance as a demon horde wreaks havoc on the streets of Manhattan. Spider-Man battles the monsters, but is soon overwhelmed. They pin Spider-Man to ground and rip his heart out. Killing him. Note* In MyS-Tech Wars #4, all of this is undone as time is reversed 24 hours preventing the carnage featured in MyS-Tech Wars #2 from ever happening. Only a handful of heroes were left with the memory of these events, Spider-Man is not one of them.

After shooting on MJ's "Secret Hospital" soap opera wraps, Peter, MJ, Bobby Baldwin and his mother Maddie (who is also an actress on Secret Hospital) head home walking down the Brooklyn streets. Peter's Spider-sense alerts him to a nearby danger and looking up in the sky, he can see black ooze filling the skies and streets in Manhattan and other parts of NYC. Peter departs the group abruptly (as does Bobby) and dons his Spider-Man attire. Shortly after, he's joined by Speedball as the two head full-speed into what appears to be a danger zone.
373.650
As Speedball begins to have second thoughts about their collective plunge into this growing darkness, Spider-Man provides some positive encouragement (ie, saying, "don't be a coward) to persuade his cohort. Suddenly, the two become engulfed in the tendrils of the darkness. Luckily for the two heroes, Firestar arrives on the scene and her microwave energy emissions appear to push the dark tendrils back...saving Spidey and Speedball. Soon after, Spidey (due to his seniority) becomes the de facto leader of the New Warriors that flank him (Speedball, Darkhawk, Firestar and the newcomer Turbo). Speedball adds that when the dark tendrils engulfed him, he felt filled with anger. It feels as though this darkness amplifies the anger present in any individual. Spidey then leads this team into battle, and soon they meet up with Ben Grimm, Black Knight and Crystal (the Inhuman). After witnessing the Human Torch and Sersi being abducted by a mysterious being, who pulls them through a portal, Grimm's group and Spidey's group decide to work together to figure out what the heck is going on. This dark matter seems to be drawn to the people with the most anger and doubts (why it took Torch and Sersi). However, there was still more questions then answers, but Grimm and Spidey lead the heroes towards, "th' biggest mass of that gunk" (Grimm's words).

As it turns out, the nexus of this dark energy is the Smyther's Drug Rehabilitation Clinic, which is where our group of heroes is headed at full speed. The group quickly realizes that the black 'crud' (ie, the dark energy) has possessed many of their super hero friends, who begin to emerge from the Smyther's Rehab Clinic. It becomes a bit of divide and conquer as Spidey takes on his ol' pal the Human Torch (who is now has a black flame instead of orange/yellow). After webbing up the Torch, Spidey is attacked by the black tendrils of the dark matter, luckily, Firestar uses her microwave energy blasts to free him. Unbeknownst to Spider-Man and the rest of the heroes outside the clinic, Dr. Strange is inside the building and he's confronted the source of this dark energy. It is a mutant named Henrique Gallante, who's mutant power allows him to access the darkforce energies into this dimension. Henrique had opened 'the void' which is why all this dark energy is seeping into this world and affecting various people (mostly the angry, emotionally unbalanced individuals). Henrique now calls himself the Night-Maker. Spidey and the rest of the heroes are doing their best to fight back the darkened-versions of their super hero brethren, but things get worse when more dark-energy-fueled super powered individuals join the fray against them. Just as Spider-Man makes a remark that they don't know who is causing all this darkness, the Gallante emerges from the clinic, in a giant monstrous form...calling himself Darkling!
373.750
Spider-Man and the other heroes face the impossible threat of Darkling, battling him (as well as the other darkened-heroes) head on. The battle rages for a while, Spidey plays savior to a couple of heroes that were nearly crushed (eg, the new hero Turbo). But the tide of the battle finally changes when Firestar decides to completely unleash all of her power and emit a radiation so bright and so powerful that it severs all the darkness exuded from and bound by Darkling. Whilst immensely powerful, Firestar's energy blast does not completely sever Henrique's ties to the dark force. Dagger and Nova give that final push that helps to cleanse Darkling, freeing Henrique. The darkness fades and the heroes are victorious. Doc Strange tries to help Henrique see the light, ultimately the mutant fades off into the night to find a way to undo all the damage he had created.

After Johnny Storm accidentally set fire to buildings on the Empire State University campus, he was taken into the police custody. All points of the media cover this story, including the Daily Bugle. J. Jonah Jameson lumps the Torch in with Spider-Man as an untrustworthy vigilante. Despite Peter's protests in defense of Johnny Storm's history as a hero, Jameson is unswayed. He sends Peter down to cover Johnny's arraignment at the courthouse. Peter is surprised by the number of folks jeering at Johnny and empathizes with his longtime pal. When a skrull disguised as a police officer shoots a laser blast at Johnny, he breaks free from his bondage and converts to the Human Torch. Unfortunately this only serves to make matters worse for Johnny as it is viewed as an act of aggression, also because he escapes police custody. Peter, who was unable to change into his Spider-Man costume because he was hemmed in by the crowd, wonders if there's anyone who can save Johnny now. Spider-Man spends hours searching in the pouring rain for his friend, but he's unable to track him down. When Johnny, now hiding in an alleyway, spots Spider-Man, he thinks the web-slinger has joined the hunt against him (he doesn't think Spidey is trying to help him). Spidey eventually gives up his search, but JJJ does not. He hires Silver Sable and the Wild Pack to track down Johnny Storm. *Note the original MCP list placed this entry after Amazing Spider-Man #375. However, in Fantastic Four #377 Silver Sable serves J. Jonah Jameson with a bill for her services. She states that he originally hired her to catch Johnny Storm (ie, in FF 372) and then, on a whim, reassigned her to pursue Venom (that occurred in ASM 375). So, FF 373 (and thus FF 372 since 372 leads directly into 373) must take place before ASM 375, not after as it was in the MCP list.

After Silver Sable's operatives (apparently there's over 100 of them on this case) are spotted by Spider-Man, he swings in to see his frequent ally. Sable had mentioned that she was hired by JJJ (Spidey was not surprised to hear that) and then claims she was expecting to see Spidey. An astonished Spider-Man asks why, she retorts, "The dossier I had assembled on the Torch noted your numerous confrontations." She then offers to hire Spider-Man as a freelance in this case, at first Spider-Man refuses because Torch is his friend, but Sable says its not about innocence or guilt, just capture. Soon after, Sable's operatives spot Storm but fail to detain him. After that failed attempt, Spider-Man (who is still not sure if he'll work for Sable because he's 'sorting out his loyalties') witnesses Sable berate her crew for their failure. Spider-Man then swings off to find more qualified help, so leaves on a mission to "call out the big guns."

"True Friends!" An editor's note on the first page of this story states that this tale takes place immediately after the events of Fantastic Four #373. It's worth noting that the first two pages of ASM 375/2 contain much of the same dialogue as FF 373 (21), which is when Spidey leaves to find the 'bigger guns.' The bulk of this tale is a recap of Spider-Man's friendship with the Human Torch. The new content comes on the final page of this story where Spider-Man resolves he'll take down Johnny Storm by force if necessary (for the sake of their friendship). He then heads toward Dr. Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum (which is where he is at the beginning of FF 374). One other new bit of information from the narrative in this tale, is that as Spider-Man is listening to Sable talk to her crew and looking at all the burnt wreckage at the docks, Spider-Man sheds a tear because of his concern for his friend Johnny Storm.
373.950
Spider-Man arrives inside Dr. Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum and the mystical doctor states that he's been expecting the web-slinger. Strange flips his tarot cards to see the card of Death and Doom, such an unsettling development confirms for Strange that the Torch's woes have far greater cosmic consequences. Thus, he decides to help the web-slinger. Strange using the astral plane to connect Spider-Man to three other heroes. But not just any other heroes, his former cohorts that comprised the new Fantastic Four...the Hulk, Wolverine and the Ghost Rider. Soon after, the five heroes (Strange came along as well) go in search for Storm, but when the bloodthirstiness of this crew becomes too obvious, Spider-Man has to remind them that the primary goal is convincing him to surrender (and not killing him!). The crew is able to find Torch, but he does not surrender he tries to take off. After a Hulk-clap extinguishes his flame, Johnny appears to be out of luck. But his fellow FF members arrive and battle Spider-Man's newly formed team. The two team's battle out and it remains fairly even, but the Hulk ultimately sets the tone and neutralizes Storm's allies. As Spider-Man and his team converge on the cornered FF and friends, suddenly the FF disappears (they're teleported somewhere), leaving Spider-Man and the others scratching their heads.

[Pgs. 1 - 17] "The Bride of Venom" After Venom abducts Peter Parker's parents, Peter (as Spider-Man) seeks out Anne Weying (Brock's ex-wife) to see if she could provide information to stop Venom. Anne tells Spider-Man about her past with Eddie, and the two part ways. Spider-Man confronts Venom but they are tailed by Silver Sable and the Wild Pack. The mercenaries were hired by J. Jonah Jameson to track down Venom (they do so by trailing Spider-Man). Soon a battle breaks out between Venom, Spider-Man and the Wild Pack.

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance (first two pages) as Silver Sable reviews surveillance footage of the Wild Pack's recent confrontations with Spider-Man and Venom (Amazing Spider-Man #375) as well as the Human Torch (Fantastic Four #373 and #374). In this scene, Spider-Man is battling Amy Chen of the Wild Pack, and it depicts a different perspective in their fight as represented in Amazing Spider-Man #375. *Note One potential discontinuity is that in ASM 375, Spider-Man's costume is torn and tattered, it is not depicted that way in Silver Sable and the Wild Pack #18.
375.540
[Pgs. 18 - 28] "The Bride of Venom" Concluded. After neutralizing the Wild Pack, Spider-Man and Venom face off. Venom is able to subdue Spider-Man, but he's blasted by a Wild Pack member with a sonic gun, which injures the Venom symbiote. The melee causes damage to a ferris wheel (they were at an abandoned amusement park), which starts to fall toward Anne Weying. Spider-Man comes to and eventually helps Brock save Anne by holding up the ferris wheel (alongside Eddie). Anne then convinces Venom that Spider-Man helps to save innocents, and thus should be spared. Venom and Spider-Man then call it a truce.

The battle makes its way to the New York streets and the Avengers join Spider-Man and the FF as they engage Huntara and the others. Totally overmatched, Huntara uses her staff to cut a hole in space-time, to provide the villains with an escape hatch. When Daredevil (who was there because Murdock was Storm's lawyer) follows them into the portal, he gets stuck (his senses were overwhelmed in this weird dimension). Spider-Man fires a web-line and pulls DD back to Earth. With the threat gone, the heroes help the wounded (including the FF) and prepare to fix the damage caused by the villains.

Peter Parker attends the funeral services for the Alpha Flight members Auric (Zhao Tang) and Silver (Jimon Tang) in Brooklyn, New York. Spider-Man was present when the two siblings were killed by the Sphinx (back in WOSM@ 8, The Hero Killers arc). During the service, Wildheart goes beserk as he uncovers that there is no bodies in the caskets, leaving the heroes baffled as to how that could have happened. The Alpha Flight team then visits Charles Xavier to see if he can track down the two heroes (because they were mutants). Xavier is unsuccessful, and when Puck and Wolverine leave the X-Men's HQ to go looking for more clues, Spider-Man joins them, much to their surprise (he had been eavesdropping in the woods nearby). Spider-Man and Puck then go from dive bar to dive bar trying to wraggle information from the low-lifes therein. Eventually they get a tip to visit an auction being held in at an abandoned airstrip. The tip pans out, there's a veritable who's who of villains there (from Doc Ock to Constrictor to Jack O'Lantern). They are all there for the auction held by the Brass Bishop and his cohorts the Chess Set (Over-Knight, King Coal, Dark Tower and Killer Queen). The Brass Bishop is auctioning off the remains of Auric, Silver, and a government agent. According to the Bishop, when the Sphinx imploded (at the conclusion of the Hero Killers arc) he released "a highly potent cocktail of energies" which need a new home. Thus, the auction is for those 'energies.' Bishop has the three bodies contained inside an apparatus that traps those energies. Spider-Man and Alpha Flight come crashing into the facility and effectively end the auction. Most of the bad guys (including Doc Ock) bail out, some stay and fight. The heroes are able to subdue most of the bad guys, although Spidey has a brief moment where he's bested by the Brass Bishop! Luckily the Guardian releases an ultrasound blast that pretty much takes out everyone. Suddenly, a new being emerges from the apparatus that housed the three deceased individuals that were being auctioned. This being appears to be mostly comprised of light, Guardian convinces it (in the honor of Auric and Silver) to not do any harm. The being then vanishes into thin air. The member of Alpha Flight, with Spider-Man alongside, are now free to grieve since they have closure on their fallen comrades.

When the evil sorcerer Xandu regains his Wand of Watoomb, he escapes the New Bedlam Asylum. Dr. Strange senses the imminent return of the Wand, so he recruits Spider-Man and Wanda Maximoff (probably due to their history with Xandu) to intervene. Meanwhile, Captain America witnesses the ruckus (escaped patients, etc) that resulted from Xandu's escape. Cap confronts Xandu but is quickly dispersed, luckily Spidey, Wanda and Strange arrive in time to bail him out. Sensing he's outgunned, Xandu bails out, and our heroes regroup to form a plan. Xandu has a fairly straightforward playbook and it usually involves his lover Melinda and the Death Dimension. Spider-Man, Wanda and Strange are familiar with Xandu's modus operandi, so they realize they must go to the Death Dimension to find him. However, due to his recent reading of his tarot cards, Dr. Strange suggests that Cap should stay behind and not come with them to Death Dimension. Cap complies, reluctantly. Once they arrive at the Death Dimension, the three heroes find Melinda upon her throne but in a motionless state. Spidey and the others are then attacked by demons the multiply if you attack them. The demons are thus able to overwhelm them. Suddenly, Xandu appears, behind Melinda. He explains that (due to their history with the Death Dimension) Melinda and he cannot both be 'alive' in the Death Dimension. His plan to address that: Merge the Death Dimension with Earth!
380.625
After the demons overwhelmed Spider-Man, Strange and the Scarlet Witch, Xandu was able to capture them as prisoners. To entertain himself Xandu used his dead subjects as parodies of the heroes, having them act as slaves to the evil sorcerer. After explaining the details of his evil plan (merging Death Dimension with Earth), Xandu frees Spider-Man and the others. But this was not an altruistic act, simply giving his demon horde a treat...the treat of hunting down and killing the freed captives. Spidey, Wanda and Strange then take off through the Death Dimension trying to remain one step ahead of the demons. Luckily, they're able to avoid the demons and eventually find their way back to Castle Skull (Xandu's HQ, if that wasn't obvious). They confront Xandu and take the fight to him. Strange is unable to defeat Xandu, the power from the Wand of Watoomb is too much. A seemingly victorious Xandu revels in his plan coming to fruition...the dead are rising back on Earth as he exclaims, "The Dead shall inherit the Earth!"
380.650
While Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and the Scarlet Witch continue their attack on Xandu, Captain America (back on Earth) is fighting of the rising dead. Strange then sends Melinda to Earth, as a diversion, and Xandu takes the bait and follows her, leaving the Death Dimension. As Spider-Man and the others now focus on fighting the demons, Xandu and Melinda collapse in pain back on Earth. Since Melinda is 'dead' she cannot be on Earth and neither can Xandu, so they both return to the Death Dimension. But Melinda, upon advice from Cap, knows she must request that Strange make her the Queen of the Death Dimension (which apparently only Strange can do). Strange pulls it off, and Melinda suddenly gains becomes more powerful than Xandu, she zaps him and he loses his Wand of Watoomb. Spidey grabs it with a web-line. Melinda then 'kills the love she once felt for [Xandu]' and then exiling him from the Death Dimension. Melinda is now the Supreme Ruler of the Death Dimension. Melinda thanks the three heroes, she could not have done it without their (or Cap's) help. She then teleports them back to Earth.

[Pg. 9 panel 7 - Pg. 10 panel 4] In flashback sequence, Peter and MJ have a serious discussion regarding Peter's quest as Spider-Man. Peter reinforces his need for a strong wife to support him and MJ adds that Peter's constant self-questioning of the right course of action is a strength of Spider-Man. That advice is particularly pointed because the contemporary story that flashback is embedded involves Spider-Man's blindly following The Goddess on her Infinity Crusade. *Note This scene occurs not long after Maximum Carnage because both Peter and MJ are coming to grips with the fallout of that event and they both reference how much that event has affected of them.

Spider-Man is having a bad day. First, he's caught off-guard by the D-List villain, the Paralyzer, who gets the best of him in a battle. This causes him to be late to work, so JJJ chews him out over the phone. Then, when he finally gets home, MJ is not home. She's rehearsing her scenes for Secret Hospital with her handsome co-star Fabian! Suddenly, a demented dwarf arrives in Peter's home with a "no prize...that'll solve all [his] problems!" Soon after, a monstrous man-spider calling itself Spider-X begins terrorizing New York City. His mission is to bring justice to this world of 'crime and vice' and he's going after the scum he thinks perpetuate it. Over the course of the next several hours, this Spider-X runs afoul of all the Midnight Sons (Ghost Rider, Johnny Blaze, Hannibal King, Frank Drake, The Redeemers and Morbius). In each case, this Spider-X is targeting those who it feels deserves justice. The Midnight Sons believe the Darkhold is involved (having affected Spider-Man) because this monster is wearing Spidey's costume. When Morbius decides to track this monster, he's intercepted by the real Spider-Man. The two tussle for a bit but are soon attacked by the monstrous Spider-X. Shortly after, all the Midnight Sons converge on the monster (they were all tracking it from different locations). The Nightstalkers (King, Drake and Blade) manage to piece together what happened. A young man, named Brian Kornfeld, who happened to be a huge super hero fan, was concerned about the rising crime levels after his mother was brutally mugged. The same demented dwarf that paid Spidey a visit offered Brian super powers (we learn that Peter had refused the dwarf's offer). This dwarf was able to do give Brian powers using the Darkhold. Thus, Brian was converted to the monstrous Spider-X and basically lost his soul in the process. Spider-Man and the Midnight Sons all concentrate their fire power down on Spider-X at once, but the creature manages to escape. Nearby, the Paralyzer is able to make a monster out of pure energy, he calls it Zzzax. Morbius then tricks Spider-X (convincing the beast that he is its mother) and tells it to go after Zzzax. Spider-X attacks Zzzax, which tries to eat the man-spider. At that moment, all the heroes once again concentrate all their fire power on both monsters. It works, there's a giant explosion which destroys Zzzax and Spider-X (presumably Brian died in the process). All is right with the world again. *Note Editor's note states this takes place after the Maximum Carnage crossover.

[Pgs. 24 - 40] Conclusion to "Epiphany" (Infinity Crusade #1). Spider-Man is one of the many heroes that follows The Goddess and becomes one of her Soldiers of Light. Soon after, Spider-Man and the others are transported to a newly formed world (formed by The Goddess) on the far side of the sun called "Paradise Omega."
380.800
Thor arrives at The Goddess' Cathedral on Paradise Omega. Spider-Man makes a single-panel cameo alongside all the other heroes that had already arrived at Paradise Omega.
380.820
[Pgs. 1 - 5] The Moon Knight's arrival on Paradise Omega is depicted. Spider-Man makes a single-panel cameo alongside the other heroes at The Goddess' Cathedral. Since Thor is present, this entry must take place after Thor #464.
380.840
[Pgs. 1 - 10] The Goddess addresses her flock, explaining their mission (purging the sins of the past) and that they will have every resource they desire for their mission. She then unveils her piece de resistance...the Cosmic Egg! This giant pink egg is the result of her gathering '30 cosmic containment units from different realities (basically 30 Cosmic Cubes)'. The Goddess then adds, "This be the reflector through which Cosmic Group Consciousness shall become universal change!"

[Pg. 11 - Page 13 panel 4] This sequence covers much of the same dialogue and plot developments that occur in WOSM 104 (5:3 - 6:4). Thus, they have identical SMURFs. There are some slight differences between the two sequences though, despite occurring concomitantly. For instance, the IC 2 (11 - 13:4) sequence focuses a bit more on The Goddess's monologue on the Cosmic Egg and also her back and forth the Silver Surfer. But otherwise, it hits the same notes as the WOSM pages. The overarching narrative of this sequence (like the WOSM 104 pages) is the enchantment of the heroes with The Goddess and her Cosmic Egg.
[Pg. 5 panel 3 - Pg. 6 panel 4] This sequence covers much of the same dialogue and plot developments that occur in IC 2 (11 - 13:4). Thus, they have identical SMURFs. There are some slight differences between the two sequences though, despite occurring concomitantly. For instance, the WOSM (5:3 - 6:4) sequence shows Spider-Man's introspection. In which he comments on how doubt-free he feels and The Goddess exudes a strong confidence in her purpose. The overarching narrative of this sequence (like the IC 2 pages) is the enchantment of the heroes with The Goddess and her Cosmic Egg.
380.880
[Pg. 6 panel 5] After The Goddess tells her followers (Spider-Man being one of them) to "heed the words of Sister Moondragon", Moondragon shoots an energy beam directly into Spider-Man's head. The Goddess says that she will guide her followers through Moondragon. Spider-Man then thinks to himself, "The Goddess made it sound so simple...but nothing in my life is ever that easy."
380.900
[Pg. 13 panel 5 - End of page 34] The Goddess' Holy Crusade begins. Spider-Man is seen a member of the Goddess' followers when the 'other' heroes arrive. The likes of Iron Man, Reed Richards and the Vision are seen as 'sinners' when they arrive on Paradise Omega. The Goddess soon casts them out once she senses they may disrupt her crusade.
380.920
[Pgs. 7 - 8] Back on Earth, JJJ and Joe Robertson argue how best to publish news from the Daily Bugle when crime and violence are at all-time lows.
380.940
[Pg. 35] Spider-Man is seen amongst the rest of the followers of The Goddess. Moondragon, on bent knee, tells her leader, "We shall not fail you!" This sequence is virtually identical to WOSM 104 (9:1) in terms of dialogue. Thus they are given identical SMURFs.
[Pg. 9 panel 1] Spider-Man is seen amongst the rest of the followers of The Goddess. Moondragon, on bent knee, tells her leader, "We shall not fail you!" This sequence is virtually identical to IC 2 (35) in terms of dialogue. Thus they are given identical SMURFs. The art depiction is slightly different in the two sequences. For instance, in WOSM 104 (9:1) the panel faces The Goddess. In IC 2 (35), the perspective is from behind The Goddess.
380.960
[Pg. 1 - Page 3 panel 1] The Goddess bids her followers farewell and tells them to pray for her and the Universe, then she disappears along with the Cosmic Egg. Her followers (including Spider-Man) are left behind, looking at only the vapor trail she left behind. This scene is identical in dialogue to both IC 2 (36) and WOSM 104 (9:2 - 9:5), differing only in the visual perspectives provided in the artwork. Thus the scenes have identical SMURF codes since they occur concomitantly.

[Pg. 9 panel 6] With The Goddess having vanished, Spider-Man thinks to himself that "he's no good alone" (he's feeling anxiety because The Goddess has left the group). This triggers a flashback sequence (see earlier SMURF WOSM 104 (9:7 - 10:4)-FB)

[Pg. 3 panels 2 - 3] Spider-Man, alongside the other heroes, continue to stare with blank looks at the area recently vacated by The Goddess.

[Pg. 10 panel 5 - End of page 16] Conclusion to "Infinity Crusader" After a memory of conversation with MJ spurs Spidey to realize that in any situation, he's always had doubts, he begins to question his recent 100% conviction to The Goddess. He also wonders how Paradise Omega could be a 'paradise' without MJ. Spider-Man decides his role in this whole charade just may be to raise the dangerous questions to the forefront. Almost immediately Moondragon can sense Spider-Man's doubts, she then attacks the web-slinger. Their conflict causes damage to the cathedral on Paradise Omega. Eventually Spider-Man is trapped, and the floor falls out below him. Suddenly he finds himself alongside The Goddess inside the Cosmic Egg...and within the darkness of his own soulscape!
381.040
[Pg. 1] "Soul Gauntlet" Spider-Man finds himself under attack by demonic versions of his friends and enemies whilst inside his own soulscape.
381.060
[Pg. 10 panels 1 - 6] Moondragon (through order of The Goddess) explains to her fellow followers that there is a non-believer in their midst. She charges Thor, Gamora, Sasquatch, Invisible Woman and Multiple Man to track him down. That non-believer is Spider-Man. Moon Knight, looking for an opportunity to prove his loyalty to The Goddess, decides he should join this group as well.
381.080
[Pgs. 2 - 3] Spider-Man is trying to reach The Goddess in order to get answers to his desperate questions (like why he was chosen for this crusade and what her plan for this crusade entails), instead he soon finds himself being tracked by his super hero allies (like Thor, Sasquatch, Invisible Woman, Moon Knight and others). These heroes are under orders of Moondragon who wants Spider-Man (because he has doubts) detained.
381.100
[Pg. 10 panel 7 - End of page 11] Moon Knight realizes that the 'non-believer' Moondragon is referring to is Spider-Man. Spector is conflicted because Spider-Man is his friend. Nevertheless, he decides he will attack Spider-Man since The Goddess, in her infinite wisdom, has commanded it.
381.120
[Pgs. 4 - 13] The various super heroes, charged by Moondragon to get Spider-Man, attack the web-slinger. This includes Archangel, Sasquatch, Gamora, Quicksilver and Thor. In each case Spider-Man does not see the hero, but rather some demonic doppleganger of a loved one (MJ) or villain (the Green Goblin) that is close to him.
381.140
[Pgs. 12 - 13] The Moon Knight attacks Spider-Man and whilst he is able to land a few blows, Spider-Man is able to escape. Spidey is then attacked by the Multiple Man (who splits into Multiple Men). However, Spider-Man is able to evade him as well. This sequence occurs concomitantly with WOSM 105 (14 -15), thus they have identical SMURFs. Both sequences depict the fight between Moon Knight and Multiple Man against Spider-Man.
[Pgs. 14 - 15] The Moon Knight attacks Spider-Man and whilst he is able to land a few blows, Spider-Man is able to escape. Spidey is then attacked by the Multiple Man (who splits into Multiple Men). However, Spider-Man is able to evade him as well. This sequence occurs concomitantly with MSMK 57 (12 -13), thus they have identical SMURFs. Both sequences depict the fight between Moon Knight and Multiple Man against Spider-Man. One difference with the WOSM version, we see that in Spider-Man's mind he does not see Moon Knight or Multiple Man attacking him. Instead (again due to him being in his soulscape) he sees demonic versions of his enemies like Carnage and Venom.
381.160
[Pg. 16] As Spider-Man makes it to safety from the attack of his fellow heroes, he stops and thinks to himself that his own soulscape was demonstrating to him how "thankless the never-ending battle for good can be." Despite his doubts that he had earlier, at the conclusion of this story, Spider-Man has reaffirmed his allegiance to The Goddess' crusade.
381.180
[Pg. 1 - Page 7 panel 2] "Judgement Day" Spider-Man tries to stop some in-fighting within The Goddess' followers (Storm and Jean Grey were fighting). But Spider-Man's efforts only make things worse. Captain America steps in to quell the situation. He also tells Spider-Man, who is questioning whether or not he can kill his former allies during The Goddess' crusade, that this is war and people die in wars. Spider-Man is then assigned to work with Puck to prepare for the pending invasion of their fellow super heroes.
381.200
"Mortal Sins" Spider-Man makes a single-panel non speaking cameo alongside Puck as they sit perched in a tree, waiting to pounce on Strong Guy and Firestar.
381.220
Spider-Man and Puck attack Strong Guy and Firestar. Spider-Man is knocked out by Strong Guy, who then dashes off. This appearance in Infinity Crusade #5 occurs concomitantly with the sequence in Web of Spider-Man #106 (7:3 - 9:3). Thus they have identical SMURF codes. The only difference between the two sequences is the slightly different artistic rendering (ie, slightly different perspectives). Otherwise, they cover essentially identical content.
[Pg. 7 panel 3 - Pg. 9 panel 3] Spider-Man and Puck attack Strong Guy and Firestar. Spider-Man is knocked out by Strong Guy, who then dashes off. [Pg. 9 panel 4 - End of page 15] On Moondragon's orders, Spider-Man continues to help in The Goddess' crusade. He is sent to 'Sector V6' where he saves Hercules who was nearly drowning after being held underwater by a mutated seaweed. After bringing Hercules to safety, Spider-Man is attacked by The Thing.
381.280
Spider-Man makes a brief appearance as his battle with the Thing rages on. Spider-Man is depicted raining blows down upon Grimm.
[Pg. 16] Conclusion to "Judgement Day" As Spider-Man's battle with the Thing continues, the sun goes nova, as the final rapture meant to purge the universe begins....
381.300
"Rapture" Spider-Man makes a couple of brief appearances in this story. First, he appears with all the other super heroes at the Avengers HQ at the conclusion of the story as heroes (who once battled each other) remake their alliances. Later, he makes an appearance alongside Daredevil as the two heroes take out a group of street thugs. They notice that The Goddess effect of making 'bad guys' good, has disappeared...so things are back to normal.

A tip from Ben Urich lands Spider-Man on a stakeout at the terminally ill ward of Memorial Hospital. According to Urich a costumed man had visited two of the patients before they died in the ward. After an evening of waiting, the mysterious individual, calling itself Deathurge, arrives and prepares to "end the suffering' of one patient. Spider-Man intervenes, but Deathurge quickly subdues the web-slinger. The mysterious visitor claims Spider-Man is deaf to the pain of the patients and does not understand Deathurge's cosmic role. Deathurge's touch numbs Spidey and when the web-head tries to take the fight outside the hospital, Deathurge retains the upper hand. Eventually Deathurge disappears into thin air. After his departure, Spider-Man questions his own convictions, was he doing the right thing by trying to save these terminally ill patients? Should he be the judge on whether someone lives or dies?

When Simon Williams (aka Wonder Man) begins filming a Macbeth movie in Hollywood, there's a media buzz that follows. Peter Parker goes out to California to cover the story for the Daily Bugle. Things get crazy though as Wonder Man is suddenly zapped into what appears to be medieval Scotland. Whilst battling three witches there, Spider-Man suddenly arrives on the scene to aid Wonder Man. Spidey explains that he swung by where Wonder Man vanished and thus he was sent to the same place. In the midst of their battle with the witches, a cloaked villain named 'Psyk-Out' appears out of nowhere. After they attack Psyk-Out, Wonder Man and Spidey find themselves suddenly back in Hollywood. Puzzled by what just happened, Wonder Man reluctantly agrees to work with Spidey to unravel this mystery. Soon after, they split up and Spidey goes on the lookout for Psyk-Out. Eventually Spidey heads back to the studio where the trouble all started. Meanwhile, Psyk-Out arrives at the offices of the studio heads, he appears to be in their employ, and he tells them that Wonder Man is close to uncovering the 'gun-running ring' that funds the studio. He then pledges to kill Wonder Man. The web-slinger crashes the party though and attacks Psyk-Out, but the villain uses his technology to create another illusion for Spidey. Luckily, Wonder Man arrives on the scene as well and saves Spidey from an oncoming car. However, the two heroes soon find themselves at the mercy of Psyk-Out who welcomes them to his world...of nightmares!
382.800
Spidey and Wonder Man battle against Psyk-Out and the warped reality he's created at the Global Studio Hollywood Theme Park. The two struggle against his illusions as Psyk-Out explains his background. Apparently his mind-bending technology was developed for movies but it was rejected by Hollywood because it would be too frightening. But then the people Hollywood took his technology (which involves uses the manipulation of the audiences 'empathy-waves' to maximize their experience). Wonder Man catches on to that uses his own energy manipulation to destroy Psyk-Out's technology when he overloads the empathy-wave absorbers. Psyk-Out is then easily defeated, and then Spidey and Wonder Man make quick work of the 'gun-running' thugs who show up at the last minute as well. Wonder Man hands all of them over to the authorities. Spider-Man leaves on good terms with Wonder Man stating, "You've impressed this cynical old arachnid today." He also tells Simon not worry about bad media coverage, super heroes find a way to overcome it.

After a night out Christmas shopping with MJ, Peter heads out to go get the Christmas tree, while MJ heads home. Web-swinging en route to grab the tree, Spider-Man sees what looks like an angel falling from the sky and into the ground below. When he pursues the fallen angel through a hole in the ground that eventually leads him face to face with Mephisto (inside Mephisto's lair). Mephisto greets the web-slinger and tells him that the angel is the "Spirit of Christmas" and that he is going to destroy it forever. Spider-Man screams, "No!!" and then enters a faustian pact with Mephisto that involves taking Spider-Man's soul if he's unable to save the angel from Mephisto's restraints. Spider-Man fails, and Mephisto takes his soul...but then quickly gives it back to the web-head because he wants him to witness the full glory of Mephisto's triumph (and you need an intact soul for that). Mephisto is horrified to see that Christmas joy still exists in the city, suddenly the Christmas Spirit appears before them. He explains that people do not get the joy from him, rather, he exists because of people (the Spirit is the effect not the cause)! Mephisto storms off in anger, and Peter magically returns to the front door of his apartment...and there's a Christmas tree in his house, courtesy of the Christmas Spirit! *Note Cover says "1994" but this is the "1993" Holiday Special.

After Ben Urich and Peter Parker are assigned to work together on a story involving union contracts and their manipulation by the mob, the two find themselves at the construction site of the Braggatello Construction Firm. The Braggatello company is building a children's hospital on the site. Peter and Ben are not given the warmest welcome when they investigate the area, as the workers confiscate his camera and destroy the film. Nevertheless, a few days later, Ben and Peter's story publishes in the Daily Bugle tying the mob to Braggatello and the construction of the children's hospital. Later, at the Daily Bugle, J. Jonah Jameson and Joe Robertson congratulate Peter and Ben for their reporting. Suddenly, Nova comes bursting through the window of Jonah's office, destroying it in the process. He tells JJJ and the others to stay away from the Braggatello construction company. Nova then leaves as quickly as he arrived. Later that day Spider-Man tracks down Nova (who was at the Braggatello construction site) and tries to reason with him, but Nova's anger and frustration make him impossible to talk to. In order to get the web-head off his back Nova unleashes a massive pulse of gravimetric energy, leaving the construction site destroyed and Spider-Man buried in the rubble. Spider-Man now knows something is really wrong with Nova, so he teams up with Urich and they pay a visit to Nova at his 'home' at this South Street seaport near the Brooklyn Bridge. They show Nova the pictures and notes from their reporting and Nova realizes he was manipulated by the Corruptor. That manipulation is what led to Nova threatening the staff at the Daily Bugle for their reporting. Without delay, Nova leaves the two behind and goes after the Corruptor. Spider-Man is not seen again in the story. *Note this story is told asynchronously, so the order of events depicted above is not the order they appear in story (in other words, this story has multiple flashback sequences)

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance when Quasar decides to leave our dimension for an Earth from a different dimension in order to reunite with his girlfriend Kayla. Since Quasar is leaving Earth, he makes his rounds saying goodbye to various super heroes. He spots Spidey web-swinging through the city and decides that, even though he doesn't know him very well, he'd still like to say goodbye to him. As Quasar is approaching, Spider-Man's Spider-sense goes off and at first Spidey thinks its due to Quasar. However, when Quasar approaches his Spider-sense settles, he realizes that Quasar is not the danger he was alerted to. The agitation and confusion got to Spidey because when he's face-to-face with Quasar and Quasar greets him with, "I was just coming over to say hi"...Spidey responds, "Hi yourself." Quasar promptly leaves. As he flies away, Spider-Man thinks to himself, "I wonder what he was really trying to tell me." Apparently their brief team-ups did not warrant a pleasant welcome from the web-slinger. It's worth noting that Spidey's Spider-sense was triggered by the Russian villains The Presence and Darkstar who were tracking Quasar and we thus close by the web-slinger at the time.

Spider-Man makes a single-panel appearance when he spots what appears to be civilians attacking one another in the streets below him. Spidey prepares to intervene and stop the violence. The recent bout of aggression between NYC residents appears to be spurred by a demon sorceress named Salome. She is seducing "responsible minds to give in...to despair." Spider-Man is seen only once at the beginning of the story trying to fight against her effect on innocent civilians.
385.880
Spider-Man makes a single page appearance when the half-human, half-mindspawn monster known as Psyko wreaks havoc across New York City. Psyko was able to manipulate innocent people into acting completely insane, as riots and destruction perpetrated by these civilians leads to city-wide chaos. Spider-Man, on his way to dinner with MJ, does his best to stop the insanity. He spots Psyko, whom he recognizes from the papers, but is unable to confront him because Spidey is distracted by a nearby woman and child. Spider-Man's hand is forced to save the mother, who was about to throw herself from the roof of a building, whilst holding her infant child in her arms. He wraps them in a web-net to prevent her from harming herself or her child. Spider-Man then resumes helping others as Psyko, unfortunately, escapes. *Note This Psyko should not to be confused with the villain Psyk-Out, who Spidey had just recently battle alongside Wonder Man in WM 28 and WM 29.

When MJ decides that she and Peter should join a health club so that they can exercise and spend more time together, they stumble into a bit of trouble. Turns out that the one of the employees of Salon Steele is the murderous Pandara, and she is turning gym members into victims! MJ arrives at the health club before Peter (who is running late of course), she is escorted by Pandara to the executive hot tubs for a luxurious soak. When Peter arrives, his Spider-sense warns him of danger, and it leads him right to the hot tubs! Peter arrives in the nick of time to save his wife from being the next victim. Pandara, who uses a magical box to unleash monsters, turns her efforts on to Peter, sending a monster directly at him. Peter tries his best to evade the monster and eventually is able to change into his Spider-Man costume in the process. Meanwhile, Eric Masterson (aka Thunderstrike) is at the same health club visiting his ex-wife to discuss their son. When Masterson hears the ruckus caused by the monster's attack on Peter, he joins the fray. The two trade blows but Pandara gets the upper hand when she unleashes a pack of monsters at Spider-Man and Thunderstrike.
385.980
Spider-Man and Thunderstrike struggle against Pandara's horde of monsters, but they're soon able to get the demons under control. When Pandara senses that the two heroes have turned the tide against her, she uses her magical box to unleash a black smoke, blinding the two heroes. Pandara then escapes, and Spider-Man and Thunderstrike are left to deal with the authorities. Spidey leaves the seen as Lieutenant Stone knows that Spider-Man's testimony is not worth much, Thunderstrike, however, stays behind to talk with the police. MJ is also taken in to the police station for questioning, Peter waits at the station for her debriefing to conclude. His Spider-sense alerts him that something has gone south, he then snoops around finds that MJ and Lt. Stone's team (aka Code: Blue) are being escorted out of the police station by what appears to be heavily armed SHIELD agents. They leave in an aircraft from atop the building, luckily Peter is able to slap a Spider-tracer on to the aircraft before it departs. Spidey then heads to the police captain's office, it just so happens that Thunderstrike was already there. Spider-Man and Thunderstrike decide to take the fight to SHIELD, more specifically, SHIELD Agent Depaul, who appears to have orchestrated this abduction. Soon after, Spider-Man, Thunderstrike and another police officer named Jackson make their way to the SHIELD helicarrier, high above Manhattan. Soon after landing the aircraft, the three allies find themselves surrounded by five giant golden merciless mandroids!!
386.000
Surrounded by the mandroids, Thunderstrike announces that they surrender...much to the surprise of Spider-Man. However, things change when Thunderstrike's ally, Stellaris, arrives on the scene attacking the mandroids. The resulting ruckus continues to boil over as Spidey and the others battle the mandroids with Stellaris' assistance. Just as things are about to get completely out of control, Nick Fury arrives on the deck of the helicarrier and things calm down immediately. Lt. Stone, MJ and the other police officer break out of SHIELD custody and make their way to the main deck and join Fury and the others. Fury admits Agent DePaul was a little over zealous taking them into custody, so he arranges their release from SHIELD. Spider-Man, MJ and the others head home on a SHIELD aircraft. Spider-Man is not seen again in this story.

Peter Parker and MJ make a brief appearance as they depart the police station and pass by Thunderstrike in the process. Peter asks Thunderstrike if Thor minds that he's stealing his act...Thunderstrike responds that he and Thor used to be very close. Peter then thinks to himself, "Yeah, like me and Venom!" Peter and MJ are not seen again in this story. *Note Peter and MJ most likely returned to the police station after the SHIELD agents returned them back to Manhattan from the helicarrier (to finish their debriefing).

After the arrest of the villain named Dread, the media engulfed the police station seeking information about his capture. Peter Parker was a part of that media blitz, on assignment for the Daily Bugle. Things get crazy though as Lt. Badilino (aka the demonic rider Vengeance) emerges from the police station to take questions. Dread summons a man-monster called Rak to help him escape police custody, and thus the monster arrives and wreaks havoc on his way through the police station. Peter witnesses this and quickly changes in to his Spider-Man costume, meanwhile Badilino converts into Vengeance. Spider-Man and Vengeance are unable to stop Rak and Dread, who escape the police station but not before Spidey slaps a Spider-tracer on to them. Soon after, Spider-Man and Vengeance follow the Spider-tracer's signal to an abandoned warehouse. Spidey and Vengeance attack the two villains are able to subdue both of them. As Vengeance prepares to kill Dread, Spider-Man stops him. The web-slinger claims they are no better than the bad guys if they kill them. Suddenly, the mastermind behind Rak and Dread appears, his name is Hellgate. He appears as a hologram and claims to be drawn by the power Vengeance emanates. Hellgate then kills Rak and Dread, then he disappears. Spidey and Vengeance are both surprised by Hellgate's move. As Spidey and Vengeance prepare to part ways, Spider-Man says, "I know what it's like to try to do the right thing and be vilified for it." She had been gone for at least a month, she appears to have cut her trip off early after she got news Peter was in trouble. It was unclear how much early she cut the original 6 week scheduled filming. There at least a two week gap between page 22 and page 23 of this story (it is not clearly stated).

[Pgs. 20 - 22] Conclusion to "The Thief of Years" Narration box describes this sequence as taking place "Later: at the Forest Hills home of May Parker" In this sequence Spider-Man unmasks to his parents Richard and Mary Parker. Original MCP list had about a dozen Spider-Man stories squeezed in between page 19 and 20 of ASM 387. That does not fit the narrative of this story, because Peter leaves Urich and says he needs to do something he "should have done long ago." The context there is that he was heading immediately to his parents, or at least headed there very soon. However, some of the stories listed in the MCP list between pages 19 and 20 (ie, Web of Doom #1-3) take place over weeks at a time and thus don't fit in between ASM 387. So ASM 386 and 387 were moved down the list (they need to be right next to one another since 386 leads directly into 387). However, one set of stories needs to be after ASM 386 (and thus in between ASM 387 pg 19 and 20)...and that is the WOSM #110 - 111 arc. In WOSM 110, MJ references her attacker on the set of Secret hospital and her quitting smoking, which occurs in ASM 385 and 386 respectively. Interestingly, Spider-Man makes a brief trip to Florida in order to fight the Lizard in WOSM 111. So a bit did happen before Spider-Man was able to unmask in front of his parents.

[Pgs. 1 - 24] "The Sadness of Truth" Spider-Man battles his parents who turn out to be artificial constructs manipulated by the Chameleon (and later found out to be Harry Osborn). Peter's (artificial construct) mother, helps him defeat his (artificial construct) father by electrocuting him.

[Pg. 2 panel 3 - End of page 3] After the Vulture kills his mother (and Spider-Man defeats the Vulture), Spider-Man holds both of his (artificial construct) parents in his arms. He then witnesses them dissolve into nothingness, mourning his parents for the second time in his life.

[Pgs. 28 - 30] Conclusion to "The Sadness of Truth" A narration box says "Time passes" between pages 27 and 28 of ASM 388. In this sequence, the police have arrived and the Vulture is hauled off to jail. Peter then returns home to MJ.

When Peter Parker, on assignment for the Daily Bugle, photographs a police crime scene involving crashed cars at local pier he struggles to get answers from the police on the scene. A homeless person near by gives Peter the scoop though, he explains that a "big black thing" scooped up a blonde man with a black streak in his hair. Peter knows only one mobster with blonde hair and a black streak, Garrick King. So he changes into his Spider-Man costume and goes looking for King. Meanwhile, while Garrick is out on the run, he's attacked by the Scorpion who comes leaping out of a limousine. Spider-Man arrives on the scene soon after, and he takes out the Scorpion, however the guys in the limousine start firing at the web-slinger. Spidey then neutralizes them by crashing their car. Just then, The Shroud (who was responsible for the attack on King that lead to the crime scene Peter was investigating) and he takes on the Scorpion who returned to his feet after Spidey had knocked him out. Garrick King escapes as the Shroud and the Scorpion's battle leads into a close by car mechanic's shop. Spider-Man joins the two of them inside the garage, but Scorpion drops a tool cabinet down on the web-head, knocking him out cold and trapping the Shroud. The Scorpion that lights a blow torch and allows gasoline to drain toward the flame as he scampers off leaving Spidey and Shroud to explode in a fiery blaze. *Note Shroud #1 must take place after Spectacular Spider-Man #207 and #208 based off of story references.

The Shroud is able to prevent an explosion by throwing his glove in front of the burning propane tank. The glove burns and produces smoke, which sets off the sprinkler system, preventing a massive explosion. The Shroud, with Spider-Man still unconscious, tracks down the Scorpion and knocks him out. Spidey comes to and joins the fray and tries to take both the Shroud and the Scorpion into custody. The Shroud unleashes his 'darkness' which discombobulates both Spider-Man and the Scorpion. The Shroud then gets information out of the Scorpion regarding who hired him to kill King. Spider-Man, struggling to get his head straight, fires a Spider-tracer at the Shroud and it sticks. But the Shroud finds it shortly after and destroys it. Spidey is then unable to track the Shroud, and he's not seen again in this story.

When Shroud's partners (Cat and Mouse) warn their ally that his war with Scorpion and Kali is getting too personal, Cat triggers a Spider-tracer in order to recruit Spider-Man back into the conflict. Spider-Man, who contemplating the recent loss of his (artificial construct) parents, receives the signal and immediately begins honing in on its position. When Shroud's cover is blown (Garrick King points out Shroud to Kali and Scorpion), Shroud quickly finds himself overrun by criminals. Spider-Man arrives just in time to take out Scorpion, whilst Shroud battles Kali. Shroud and Spider-Man each defeat their foes, the two then share a conversation. Shroud wants to know why Spider-Man wanted to take him in (back in Shroud #1). Spidey says because the papers say your a ganglord, Shroud's response, "The same newspapers that call you a criminal?" Touche. Spider-Man agrees to Shroud's logical point, the two heroes then party ways.

On assignment for the Daily Bugle, Peter Parker was covering a story about the current prison conditions at Riker's Island. However, the Daily Bugle helicopter was commandeered by the terrorists Salvo and the Warforce. These criminals then landed the helicopter at Riker's Island and held the journalists and guards hostage. The vigilante Nightwatch was nearby, saw the chaos and swooped in to stop the terrorists. This gave Peter time to change into his Spider-Man costume and join the fight against the Warforce. Spider-Man creates a giant web cocoon to shield the civilians during the ensuing shootout. Spider-Man and Nightwatch then make quick work of Warforce, however, their leader (Salvo) tries to escape. Nightwatch goes after them as they attempt escape in the Daily Bugle helicopter. Nightwatch pursues them and is eventually able to defeat Salvo. Nightwatch, who's armor is now damaged from the battle, is able to absorb Salvo's tech into his suit, creating a regenerated suit for Nightwatch. Spider-Man witnesses that whole process and tells Nightwatch that the police may not appreciate his "edge" when it comes to criminals. Spider-Man also tells Nightwatch that it remains to be seen who the 'real threat' is here and thus he'll be keeping an eye on Nightwatch as well. The two then part ways.

After the Prowler (aka Hobie Brown) is framed for murder, he returns to the scene of the crime and finds police have cordoned off the area (thus he can't go in and inspect the 'framed' evidence). Suddenly, Spider-Man joins Prowler on the rooftop, much to Hobie's surprise. Spidey explains that he doesn't think the Prowler is a killer but he does recommend that Hobie not come back to the crime scene garbed as the suspect (aka the Prowler). The two heroes then stop the mugging of an old woman as Hobie gives Spidey an update on what he's been up to (Hobie works for a technology development firm now). The two heroes then part ways, assuming that if there was an 'evil twin' of the Prowler nearby, they probably bailed out during their scuffle with the muggers.

After Spider-Man reads in the newspapers that Morbius is suspected of killing a CIA agent, he resolves that the time has come for him to finally put Morbius away for good (Spider-Man thinks that Morbius is his problem). Spidey then spends time web-swinging through the city in search of Morbius. Just as he is about to give up, he spots the vampire flying through the air. Spidey then tracks him and sees him confront another vampire (named Slaughter) and begin beating the daylight out of him. Spider-Man intervenes claiming he won't let Morbius hurt anyone ever again. The story ends with Spider-Man webbing Morbius up, and allowing Slaughter to escape. *Note this story takes place after Maximum Carnage as well as the death of Peter's (artificial construct) parents based off of references that are made in the story.

Spider-Man and Morbius continue to battle it out on the rooftop after Morbius escapes Spidey's web-net. Morbius continues to plead with Spider-Man that he is not the killer and that he's tracking the real killer, he begs Spider-Man to trust him. Spider-Man, reluctantly, ends up agreeing to trust Morbius and work with him. Meanwhile, Slaughter makes his way into the nearby United Nations building. Soon after, Spider-Man and Morbius make their way over to the UN building as well. Spidey witnesses Morbius attack Slaughter and a rogue CIA agent named Randolph Simpson. Spider-Man begins to realize that Morbius may be telling the truth. Unfortunately, Simpson is able to escape Morbius (who is growing weaker). Over the next few hours, Spider-Man and Morbius track leads over the murders Morbius is being framed for. Morbius explains to Spidey that he's working with CIA agents who want him to catch Simpson. If he doesn't, and Slaughter (a vampire mercenary does), than they will kill Morbius' friend Martine Bancroft. The story ends with Morbius being confronted by the ex-CIA operative Simon Stroud. Spider-Man is not far behind.
389.840
An uneasy alliance develops between Spider-man, Stroud and Morbius. Stroud explains that Simpson is a patriot, killing corrupt agents and criminals. He adds that the CIA agents that sent Morbius after Simpson are corrupt as well. Morbius tells Spider-Man that if he helps him free his friend Martine from corrupt agents, he will let Spider-Man hand him over to the authorities. Morbius then slips a Spider-tracer (one that Spidey had put on him earlier) onto Stroud and they part ways. Spider-Man and Morbius eventually track Slaughter and Morbius nearly kills him (Spider-Man is forced to intervene). Their battle takes them into (literally, the blow through the walls of the corrupt agents hideout) with Stroud, Simpson and the corrupt agents. Martine (who is vampire as well), now freed, and Stroud kill the corrupt agents. Simpson tries to make a run for it, but Morbius chases after him. Simpson ends up killing himself (jumping off the roof of a building). Morbius is pleased that Martine is freed and allows Spider-Man to hand him over to the authorities. Spider-Man is pleased that at least some dangerous people are off the streets.

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance when he's interrogating a mugger about the location of purse he snatched. With the mugger suspended upside down high in the air, Spidey urges the mugger to tell him where the purse is. Suddently, the Silver Surfer comes screaming past the two of them, nearly hitting them both. Spidey wonders what the Silver Surfer is up to. The mugger, now very panicked, tells Spider-Man the location of the purse. Spider-Man is not seen again in the story.

Black Cat goes out on the prowl looking to talk with her friend Spider-Man. When she finds him he's in the middle of a fight with Cardiac. MJ visits Felicia at Felicia's apartment the next and two start to discuss Spider-Man/Peter. Just then, Spider-Man arrives (looking as if he was just in a brawl) and scolds the two for talking about him while he's not around. Spider-Man appears to be on edge. Black Cat doesn't care for Spider-Man's advice at first but then Proust returns to consciousness and explains that he was the Chimera. Spider-Man makes two appearances in this story. First, at the beginning of the story he watches news coverage on TV that reports the Punisher had hijacked a new helicopter to avoid a police cordon and the copter is now over the East River. Spider-Man realizes he must do something about it. Interestingly, he was watching the TV through someone else's window whilst hanging upside from his webbing outside of their apartment. Spider-Man is not seen again until the conclusion of the story (after the Punisher's conflict with Nails from the law enforcement group called V.I.G.I.L.). Spider-Man shines his infamous red Spider-signal on the Punisher and yells out, "Punisher!"
389.980
Spider-Man's appearance in this story is remarkably brief (given the cover and the build-up from the prior issue). After cornering the Punisher, Spider-Man webs him up and berates him for his actions. Spidey says after all the times he's let him go, and rationalized that the Punisher's actions were justified because he was killing criminals and that he found a way to live with it. But now, with cops (who the Punisher is accused of killing), it stops. Spider-Man then pummels Castle. Suddenly, the V.I.G.I.L. authorities arrive, they tell Spider-Man to put the Punisher down and that they have the jurisdiction here. Spider-Man complies, leaves the Punisher there, and says he's done with him.

The stress from Peter's discovery that Harry was behind the arrival and subsequent death of his (artificial construct) parents and the news that Aunt May is in a coma pushes Peter to the limit. He forms a web-cocoon and emerges as The Spider. He then heads out into the night. There is potential discontinuity in this sequence. MJ has discovered Aunt May after she collapsed on to the ground and into a coma. She then has her taken to a hospital. In this sequence, she left a note for Peter and he is aware of Aunt May's condition. However in WOSM 115, which is an entry after this, she has not yet spoken to Peter. In WOSM 115 Ben Reilly calls MJ and she thinks it is Peter, but again, she's trying to reach Peter to share the news of Aunt May. Unfortunately, there is no way to fix this discontinuity because both "The Shrieking (ASM 390 - 393) and this FACADE conclusion (WOSM 115 - 116) cannot be split up. "Cold Hearts" This story is squeezed in between the page of ASM 392 because in this story Spider-Man is depicted as "The Spider" (ie, Spider-Man devoid of his human side). Spider-Man battles Hobgoblin and Cold Heart and saves a young boy from being killed. There is a brief window in "The Shrieking" arc when Peter considers himself "The Spider" (after he emerges from his cocoon). After J. Jonah Jameson tasks Kenny Brown, a 'cub' reporter for the Bugle, to be a journalist and find a story connecting Annex to Spider-Man, the reporter hits the streets. Soon after, he spots Annex flying through the sky and Spider-Man web-swinging right behind him. Brown is in luck! When a car comes speeding toward Annex's friend, Dr. Hillman Barto, Annex fires a rocket to stop the car in its tracks. Spidey then uses a web-net to prevent the debris from hitting innocent civilians. Brown tries to take of photo of the two super-powered people, but Spidey fires webbing at his camera, gumming up the shot. Annex then asks Spidey about tips for being a super-heroing as career move...Spidey's reponse, "I'm...not sure I can help you there..." Spidey then swings off into the city. Spider-Man is not seen again in this story.

The newspaper article is shown in Annex #3, so SSM 215 must take place before Annex #3. Time passes between SSM 215 and SSM 216 (although it is not clear how much). After Joe Robertson tells J. Jonah Jameson that there's a "something big happening" at the Adarco Building, JJJ tells Kenny Brown to go follow that breaking story. Outside the Daily Bugle, Spider-Man spots Brown and overhears him tell the cabby to take him to the Adarco Building. Spider-Man rides on the taxi to Adarco and when he arrives he sees a platoon of A.R.M.S. robots leaving the building (he had fought them back in SM 41-43 with Iron Fist). Spider-Man realizes he must intervene. *Note This story takes place after SSM 215 because JJJ shows Kenny Brown the Daily Bugle paper of Spider-Man attacking Cussler.

After seeing Annex (aka Alex Ellis) battling another guy in an annexing armor outside the Adarco Building, Spider-Man realizes that since Ellis is holding his own, he can go inspect the building. When he gets inside he's greeted by A.I.M. agents (they had taken over A.R.M.S. at the conclusion of SM 43, unbeknownst to Spider-Man). They have Dr. Barto captive. Spider-Man frees Barto and defeats the A.I.M. agents. Dr. Barto stays behind to deactivate the tech from Annex's combatant. Spider-Man then makes his way back out of the building and prevents an Adarco helicopter from crashing into the streets below. After rescuing the helicopter, Spider-Man (and Annex) witness the death of Dr. Barto after debris from a collapsing support beam lands on top of him. Annex was very upset, but Spider-Man tells him that he should be proud. Annex didn't use his powers for revenge or to serve his own purposes. Instead, he used his powers to help people. Spider-Man then adds, "that's what makes you super, Annex...and what makes you a hero!" The two then part ways.

Spider-Man disrupts a group of terrorists who are pulling some kind of heist at the UN Building. After disarming and knocking them around, one of the terrorists lights the room on fire. The group then teleports away before Spider-Man can detain them. When police barge into the building they tell Spidey that Detective Snider wants to speak with him. Spidey makes his way down to the streets and tells Snider everything he knows (that word on the street led him to UN Building where something 'nasty' was going to happen). Snider then explains that something similar happened over at the Welles Technology Corporate HQ. Solo was there earlier and the building exploded when similar terrorists attacked that building. Since Spider-Man thwarted the terrorist's attack, he figured they'd return to the building, so he staked it out. Sure enough, the terrorists return and Spider-Man hops right in to intervene. Solo also arrives on the scene to combat the terrorists. Spider-Man webs up a bunch of the heavily armed terrorists, but one of them is able to fire what appears to be a kill-shot at Detective Snider. The terrorists then teleport away. Spider-Man is furious at the loss of his ally Detective Snider and tells Solo he's just as bad as the terrorists. Spider-Man tries to web-up Solo but he teleports away. Spidey vows to hunt down every last one of the people involved in this mess!
393.750
The name of the terrorist group perpetrating these attacks is revealed to be A.R.E.S. (Assassination, Revolution, Extortion and Sabotage) and Solo's ex-lover Rowena is a member of that group. Spider-Man has a run-in with Solo at the hospital room of Detective Snider (who appears to have survived the gun-shot wound). Solo had teleported in to tell Snider that he was going to avenge him. Spider-Man criticizes Solo for wanting to shoot his problems away, and asks Solo to explain his connection to these recent attacks. But Solo doesn't answer, he teleports away when nurse comes. Spider-Man leaves as well. Later, Spider-Man spots a police cordon around the Delvadian Embassy, so he decides to investigate it. Indeed A.R.E.S. operatives are inside the building holding the ambassador hostage. Spider-Man (and Solo who was alerted to the scene because his tech tracked the use of teleportation) make their way inside the embassy. They're able to take out a bunch of the terrorist operatives but fail to get the leader once he pulls Rowena in as a hostage. Solo freezes and the remaining A.R.E.S. terrorists teleport away. A frustrated Solo snaps at Spider-Man when the web-slinger asked about who that woman was. Solo loses his cool and starts firing at Spider-Man and then teleports away. Spider-Man has had enough and realizes that now he's gonna take Solo down for good. *Note This story occurs after ASM 391, Editor's note references Aunt May's stroke and coma that occurred in ASM 391.
393.800
After police fail to obtain useful information from their detained A.R.E.S. operative, Spider-Man breaks in through the police HQ window to do his own interrogation of Scorch (that's the name of the perp). Spider-Man is unsuccessful as well, but suddenly Scorch is remotely teleported back to A.R.E.S. HQ. Since Spider-Man was holding him at the time, the web-slinger is teleported as well. Spider-Man finds himself up against an army of A.R.E.S. goons so he goes to work taking them down. Solo telelports to the HQ as well, and he makes his way through their defenses and toward their leader, Deathstorm. Spider-Man eventually converges on the battle between Solo and Deathstorm, but this causes Deathstorm to escape. Soon after, the A.R.E.S. HQ collapses on itself and Spider-Man and Solo are forced to escape the building. Now outside amongst the rubble the web-slinger, fed up with Solo's murderous tactics, turns his ire to defeating him. Spider-Man is successful, he neutralizes Solo and hands him over to the Guardsmen who take Solo to the Vault. Spidey is happy that there's one less gun-toting maniac out on the streets.
393.850
During a check-in visit on Detective Snider, Spider-Man finds out that Solo had escaped the Guardsmen's custody during transport. Spider-Man is determined to stop Solo once again. "Word on the street" once again informs the web-slinger that A.R.E.S. has split into two factions (both bad) and that they're most likely going to target the U.N. Building once again. Their play is to demand the dissolution of the Delvadian government and the installation of a dictator of A.R.E.S.'s choosing. Spider-Man makes his way to the U.N. building but its too late, A.R.E.S. already has it under siege. Spider-Man breaks in, just as Solo teleports in, and the two go to work battling the A.R.E.S. goons. Solo teleports into Deathstorm's helicopter and confronts the villain head on. Spidey sees the helicopter off in the distance and notices that it looks like its about to crash (its flying out of control). The helicopter (with Rowena, Solo and Deathstorm in it) indeed crashes near a pier on West 38th street. Spider-Man makes his way to the crash site and witnesses a tattered Solo and Deathstorm continuing to fight it out in front of innocent civilian. Solo goes for the kill-shot on Deathstorm as Spider-Man screams for him to restrain himself. Solo fires the shot, killing Deathstorm, but the bullet also travels through him and kills an innocent civilian. Spider-Man grabs the innocent woman and screams at Solo that he's "no better than the terrorists [he hunts]." Solo is once again detained by the Guardsmen but with A.R.E.S. and Deathstorm defeated, Solo is willing to accept his prison time and personal torment.

Imp (Pandora Destine) and the Crimson Crusader (Rory Destine) are starstruck now that they are suddenly face to face with Spider-Man. Rory and Pandora soon pass out due to exhaustion and over-excitement. Spider-Man makes them web-hammocks and then grabs them some food. When they come to Spider-Man is standing there and tells them that they need to go back to their family. They refuse, claiming that they can be superheroes because of their powers. Spider-Man makes a deal with them, he says if they can beat him (he'll pretend to be a villain) then they can be his sidekick. But if he bests them, they need to go home to their family. Spider-Man easily defeats the two siblings and on their way back to their family, they come across a burning building. Spider-Man explains to them that they don't need to get involved in areas they don't have any expertise, let the trained firefighters/etc deal with the blaze. Suddenly, Pandora gets a telepathic message from her fellow Clandestine member Kay Cera (aka Cuckoo) that she and Samantha Hasard (aka Argent) are in trouble and need their help. Spider-Man and the two kids make their way to the rooftop where Kay and Sam are trapped. There's a man there, dubbed the Skyline Killer, who was hired to kill Kay (to prevent her from inheriting her mother's fortune). Spider-Man takes the killer on but ultimately is aided by the two Clandestine siblings as well. The killer escapes (he's later killed by the Punisher) but Spider-Man leaves the Clandestine crew together now that they're all safe. The young sibling's power sets came in handy against the killer, so Spider-Man departs with a newfound respect for the two young members of Clandestine.

Peter Parker makes a brief appearance when he attends an event at the Museum of Monsters, which has built a giant display showcasing giant monsters that have come to Earth over the years. Ben Grimm, Hank Pym, Sue Richards and Johnny Storm are all in attendance, taking photos and answering questions from attendees. Peter Parker attends as a photographer capturing the event and when one attendee ask Pym a question about Rorgg and the Spider-Men, Pym struggle to provide the answer. Peter then steps up and answers the question (it was about how they managed to come to Earth). Pym is impressed by the 'shutterbug' and Peter responds he's always had a thing for Spiders. Seconds later, a handful of Aztecs resurrect these monsters and all hell breaks loose. Spider-Man is nowhere to be seen whilst the FF and Pym battle the monsters. However, later when Spider-Man is crawling along the rooftop of the building, he admits that he was struck in the head and knocked out when the ruckus started. By the time he awoke, the trouble was cleared. Spider-Man is not seen again in the story.
