Background

Through issues Web of Spider-Man #84 to Web of Spider-Man #89, we were introduced to a mystery new Rose character – Blood Rose. The Kingpin's son Richard knows who he is but the last we saw of him was him falling into a river.

Story 'The Swords Are Drawn'

  Web of Spider-Man (Vol. 1) #99

A bulletproof glass window comes down between Blood Rose and Foreigner and, obviously because it takes longer to pull a trigger than it does to lower a glass shield, Foreigner survives. Next, Spidey jumps in just as BR throws a grenade under the glass. It hits the Foreigner, who turns out to be someone in a mask. Spidey swings whoever it is off to hospital.

MJ is off to Betty's apartment where she hopes to find Pete but instead runs into Robbie, who is just leaving. Later, MJ is in bed with Peter, who clearly wasn't THAT hard to find. She tells him about Betty/Robbie when they see a report on the news that leaves Pete to rush off and do his Spidey-saving act.

He heads to Foreigner's HQ but is accosted by the New Enforcers (don't ask). He beats two losers before three others on some giant dragon show up out of nowhere (I didn't just make that up by the way, it's really in the book).

Back on Fisk's island, he steals some 'power glove', punches out Trench then sails off in Trench's motor boat. Trench says something about Fisk not understanding its power, runs off and gets changed into some off black and red costume before proclaiming himself 'Nightwatch'. On the last page, we see Blood Rose taking off his mask. It is some blonde guy – the real Richard Fisk (huh?) and he says that once he's dealt with the New Enforcers he wants to reclaim the name of Richard Fisk. Confused? I sure as hell am.

General Comments

One more issue to go until we hit the big #100. What a shame it has to be like this!

Overall Rating

Yet again... one lousy flea-bitten half web!
