Spidey hands Hobgoblin over to the authorities then goes back into the sewer to help GR and Blaze, who have been consumed by the Deathspawn while battling Venom. Spidey gets a GUN and threatens Deathspawn before releasing the others. Deathspawn attack Venom saying they want to kill Spidey. GR and Blaze help contain Venom, who is re-captured and sent back to the vault.

General Comments

There simply are no words that can sum up quite how dumb this arc is. I neither know, nor care, what or who Deathspawn are but I can say they have no place in a Spider-Man book. Venom's role is ridiculously two-dimensional and all the brain/ spleen eating dialogue is so bad it just reads like a six-year old's attempt at horror.

The art is poor, except for the covers of issue three and four (three especially). The endless fights are so tiring and Mackie loses track the non- stop mass of characters. Each good-guy gets to fight each bad-guy. It's a shambolic mess of a story that barely makes sense.

If the crossover was an attempt to introduce Spidey readers to Spirits Of Vengeance, then it failed dismally as Spider-Man is a different type of book with different types of villain. Generally speaking, it also has storylines that make sense, too.

Overall Rating

Depressingly awful … again.
