SMURF : Brand New Day

 Chronology: Comics Index by Date

These are the Spider-Man Unified Reading Flow codes for the SMURF era beginning with 545.550.

After Spider-Man exchanges his marriage for Aunt May's life with Mephisto, the faustian pact leads to a single Peter Parker, the return of Harry Osborn and a brand new world. The era also encompasses the beginning of the Heroic Age, which takes place after Osborn's failed siege on Asgard and the end of the Superhuman Registration Act.

545.550
[Pgs. 36 - 37] After the deal with Mephisto is sealed, Aunt May recovers and the next day Peter visits with her, she has regained consciousness. MJ is seen with a packed bag, leaving in a taxi cab. Peter explains to Aunt May that she "needed a little time to herself." He assures Aunt May that she'll be back soon.
545.900
[Pgs. 4 - 10] Peter takes Aunt May down to Florida to visit a few of her retired friends and ends up battling the Man-Thing. *Note A narration box states that this portion of the story takes place four months earlier than the contemporary portion of the story. **Note Peter does indeed suit up as Spider-Man to save a child. This battle with Man-Thing takes place in the Everglades and there is no one there to see it. So this would hold with the Brand New Day premise that Spider-Man had not been seen in New York City for over 100 days. One could rationalize that Peter broke his temporary ban on Spider-Man in an emergency case to save a child.
545.925
"A Matter of Trust" Peter realizes that Harry Osborn did not die. He and Harry visit with each other, it begins icy but Peter eventually warms up to his old friend.
545.950
[Pg. 15 panel 5] This single panel flashback depicts Harry Osborn (and the Oscorp construction workers) standing outside Aunt May's rebuilt home (it had been destroyed by Charlie Wiederman). Harry did this as a gesture of good faith for his friend Peter, rebuilding the house he grew up in.
546.000
[Pgs. 23 - 31] Conclusion to "One More Day" (Part 4) Peter attends a surprise party for Harry Osborn and meets a few new friends (eg, Lily Hollister and Carlie Cooper).
546.500
"Brand New Day" *Note The MCP chronology around Brand New Day has been adjusted considerably. The main driver for this is that MCP placed numerous stories between and within ASM 545 and 546. However, the Brand New Day storyline (presented in ASM 546) states that Spider-Man has not been seen anywhere for over 100 days, in fact, everyone is wondering where he is. Peter confirms that as well, stating how normal his life has been recently without Spider-Man. In fact, what finally brings Peter back into being Spider-Man is J. Jonah Jameson's heart attack in ASM 546. The poor circulation of the Daily Bugle (because of no Spider-Man) is part of Jonah's stress. In ASM 547, Joe Robertson tells Peter that the Bugle needs Spider-Man. So Peter finally goes out as Spider-Man in an effort to help the Daily Bugle as well as work toward solving the case of the Spider-tracer killer. Thus, every post-One More Day Spider-Man appearance must take place after ASM 547. Of course it is always possible that Spider-Man went out and was not seen, but in the spirit of Peter saying he was living his life without Spider-Man during that time, we'll take him at his word.

"Swing Shift" *Note Amazing Spider-Man Family #6 contains flashbacks to this story, however those flashbacks (ie, Peter talking with the police alongside Jackpot) cannot fit into this story and thus would be discontinuous (Spider-Man leaves the scene of the crime, with a note, for the police and never talks with them). MCP placed those flashbacks within this story, we have removed them because of discontinuity.

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance at the beginning of this story after Deadpool had accidentally transported dinosaurs back to Manhattan from the Savage Land...and they got exposed to the alien symbiote as well. Spider-Man helps to battle the dinosaurs for a short period of time but then leaves to get some 'big picture' vantage point.

While Spider-Man is web-slinging through the city (as always in a race to be somewhere he's late to), Ms. Marvel spots him and attempts to bring him in as an unregistered super hero. Spider-Man is able to give her the slip, but she remains in dogged pursuit. When she eventually catches back up to him, they're suddenly confronted by a group of robots that appear to be ravaging the streets of New York. They destroy the robots, but then notice that they begin reassembling and appear to be trying to build something and not simply to raise havoc. Eventually they track their signal guiding the robots back to an apartment filled with androids. These androids are the remnants of a successful businessman named Stuart Cavenger. Cavenger had uploaded himself into the internet and one of these androids was using the robots to build a spaceship to take Stuart to outer space (its referred to as the Destructive Stuart). Spider-Man beheads the Destructive Stuart, causing the giant robot to fall to the ground. The other Stuart-androids then use his wealth to fix all the damage caused in the city.

Spider-Man returns to his home exhausted and begins to fall asleep when he's visited by a Spider-Man from another dimension. Peter follows this Spider-Man through a wormhole and into a room with a myriad of other Spider-Men from all kinds of different universes. They prepare to battle the Doctopoids which appear to have invaded Peter's world (Earth). Peter tries to convince the other Spider-people that he can save Earth without their help, he soon reveals that the original Spider-Man that brought him to this place was actually a Tentaclone (a scout for the Doctopoids)! Peter falls back through the wormhole just as the Tentaclone was preparing to attack. Suddenly, Peter wakes up...it was all a dream! Or was it, the device that allowed him to go through the wormhole is under his bed at the story's end...

While web-swinging through the city, Spider-Man is suddenly confronted by the X-Men (Storm, Iceman and Nightcrawler) who take him to a space station where he's joined by many of his fellow super heroes. The group struggles to find a solution to stop the Retaliator (a 10 mile long giant bullet), which was sent to destroy Earth by the villainous alien Powerlord Kruun. To make matters worse, Kitty Pryde is stuck inside the bullet. Ultimately there's nothing the heroes can do stop the bullet, however Kitty saves the day. She phases the bullet straight through Earth, saving the planet but dooming herself (the bullet cannot be stopped and she's being taken along with it through space). Spider-Man is not seen again once Kitty saves Earth.

Spider-Man makes three non-speaking cameos throughout this story as he and numerous other super heroes struggle against CAP (Conserve and Protect) an all-powerful robot from another dimension. CAP was meant to protect Nu-World (an alternate dimension copy of Earth created by Reed Richards ex Alyssa Castle and her husband Ted). CAP's programming went awry though and he came to the real Earth to eliminate any threat.
559.000
Spider-Man makes two single panel non-speaking cameos as he fights alongside many other super heroes who aid the Fantastic Four as they try to defeat CAP. Reed Richards constructs a giant robot to take on CAP, their battle begins in Central Park. Spider-Man and the other heroes arrive in Central Park to help Reed, however their help is minimal because once the giant robots clash, a massive shock wave neutralizes Spider-Man and the other heroes. Spider-Man finds himself once again the target of the pro-Registration Thunderbolts (Songbird, Moonstone, Venom, Penance, Swordsman and Radioactive Man) as they struggle to corral the web-slinger in the streets of New York. In the midst of the their attack, Captain America and the Invaders are transported to the future (from World War 2) via a strange green mist. The Invaders help Spider-Man defeat the Thunderbolts, but the public battle causes word to travel the globe that Captain America is back!
567.650
Spider-Man makes two brief appearances in this story. First, as Peter Parker he photographs Iron Man and his Avenger team as the battle Namor, Cap and the other Invaders. This battle ultimately leads to Stark taking the Invaders into custody. Later, as Spider-Man at the Sanctum Sanctorum, he's alongside Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Wolverine and the other New Avengers as they resolve to free Cap and the rest of the Invaders from Stark's prison.
567.700
After receiving some help from Spider-Woman (a member of Iron Man's Mighty Avengers) regarding the location a SHIELD helicarrier, Spider-Man and the other New Avengers prepare to free the Invaders. Dr. Strange plans to use magic to restore the timeline and send the Invaders back to the era from which they came.
567.750
Dr. Strange uses a spell to teleport Spider-Man and the other New Avengers onto the SHIELD helicarrier that is transporting the Invaders. As soon as they arrive onboard, they're greeted by Iron Man's Avengers and an all-out slug fest ensues. The Mighty Avengers get the upper hand, luckily, Bucky, Toro and the Human Torch were planning their own escape and they join the fray against Iron Man's team.
567.800
The battle between the two Avengers teams aboard the SHIELD helicarrier continues, eventually Dr. Strange is able to transport the New Avengers and the Invaders (minus Cap) back to Sanctum Sanctorum. As Strange prepares to restore the timeline he realizes that it was not five people, but six. They must find out who the last person was to travel to the future in order to properly restore the timeline.
567.850
Spider-Man joins Dr. Strange and the other as they try to track down the Cosmic Cube. Strange believes that the Cube is responsible for bringing back the Invaders, specifically he thinks the a soldier who fought with the Invaders back in World War 2 (Paul Anselm) was the one responsible for bringing them back. After they pay Paul a visit and realize he doesn't have the Cube, Strange offers a different hypothesis...it was the collective conscious of the whole world that 'wished' the return of Cap and the Invaders.
567.900
Spider-Man, Dr. Strange and the other use the All Seeing Eye to locate the Cosmic Cube. This leads them into the sewers underneath New York City where they find D'spayre, a demon which is feeding off the Cosmic Cube. Specifically, he's feeding off of the collective regret and sadness that the world is feeling the face of Cap's death and the Superhuman Civil War. Before the heroes can stop them, D'spayre wraps them up and begins to 'read' all of their collective angst and pain. As the fear-lord digs into each of the New Avengers past, they become incapacitated with grief and regret.
567.950
With the heroes stuck in the clutches of D'Spayre, Echo comes to the rescue (unable to hear the spell placed by the demon. She gives the cube to Strange who uses it to free the host that D'Spayre had overrun...the original Vision from 1940's! Eventually the Mighty Avengers and the New Avengers agree to reunite the Invaders to send them home. However, Paul Anselm grabs the cube and unleashes a reality altering wave of energy!
568.000
The surviving heroes, including Spider-Man, find themselves trapped in New York in 1943...in an alternate reality in which the Red Skull has conquered the United States and the rest of the world (using the Cosmic Cube). Iron Man decides they need to attack Red Skull, but as heroes he would recognize. So Spider-Man and the other heroes change their costume to resemble heroes from the 1940s, Spider-Man takes on the identity of The Challenger. Then they take down a German firing squad in New York. Soon after, Namor takes the heroes Aryan Wall...a structure that borders of all Hitler's land.
568.050
Remaining in their disguises as heroes from the 40s, Spider-Man and the other join forces with the Nick Fury and the Howling Commandos, as well as the original Black Panther. The group makes their way through the enemy territory while the Red Skull prepares for their arrival.
568.100
As the heroes battle their way through the Red Skull's empire. However, the Red Skull has a surprise for them as they approach...superhuman monsters that resemble a perverse version of the Avengers!
568.150
Spider-Man and the other heroes are able to overpower the Red Skull and his forces when the Cosmic Cube, which has now become sentient, decides it does not want to serve the Red Skull any longer. Captain America is then able to wrestle the Cube away from the Skull and restore things back to normal. Spider-Man, alongside the other heroes, then returns back to the future. *Note Spider-Man goes from being disguised as The Challenger to back to his regular Spider-Man costume in the middle of the battle. It is not clear whether that is an intentional aspect of the story (which would be odd because it is not explained) or just some artistic miscue.

Spider-Man makes a single page (two panel) appearance playing a video game alongside Luke Cage. When a giant robotic monster (alien?) makes its way through New York City, Spider-Man is on the scene saving as many civilians as possible. Spider-Man thinks to himself (whilst saving people) that he won't get any recognition for the heroic work he's doing there. He notes that the big guns (the Avengers and the Fantastic Four) will get all the credit. Spider-Man than uses his webbing to the cause the giant robot to crash to the ground. This allows the other heroes to completely neutralize him. Whilst thinking to himself that he may not deserve all the credit, he does think that he deserves at least some of it.

After getting a photography assignment with Ben Urich at the Front Line newspaper, Peter finds himself at a press conference listening to Tony Stark about recent attacks on Stark Industries. Later, as Spider-Man, Peter tracks down Iron Man to follow up on both the press conference and the story he's working on with Ben Urich. After saving a Stark Industry employee from a dangerous fall, Spider-Man badgers Stark to work with him as Stark infiltrates the black market criminals behind the recent attacks. Tony refuses, because Spider-Man is still an unregistered vigilante. Spider-Man puts a tracer on Iron Man anyway, and follows him as he investigates. Eventually Spider-Man worms his way into working with Stark as they go from the Tinkerer to Big Wheel to Ed Gross (who collects supervillain tech). They basically followed up on B-listers with connected to the black market. At the end of the day that don't make any inroads, but Peter begins to see just how sad and how much confidence Tony had lost recently. The piece he and Urich end up putting together reflects that aspect of Tony Stark.

[Pgs. 1 - 3] The night before the Skrulls invade Earth, Spider-Man is spotted battling Menace in the streets (and skies) of New York City. Their fight leads to them hitting the taxi cab of the narrator of this story (who was already having a bad day).
583.580
After a tip from Spider-Woman that a Skrull ship has crashed landed in the Savage Land, Spider-Man and the other New Avengers steal a quinjet from the Mighty Avengers and head out to investigate the crashed ship. Once there, they're confronted by the Mighty Avengers and the two teams debate whether or not they should open the crashed Skrull ship. Eventually the occupants from the ship emerge and reveal themselves as the superheroes themselves (albeit, in their original costumes)! The Skrull Invasion has begun.
583.600
[Pgs. 1 - 10] As to be expected, an all-out brawl ensues between the two factions of superheroes!
583.620
[Pg. 1] The battle between the heroes (and their doppelgangers) rages on, a T-Rex comes barreling through the middle of the fight!
583.640
[Pg. 1] This single (splash) page depicts the T-Rex breaking the lines of the battle from a slightly different perspective.
583.660
[Pgs. 11 - 12] This double-page spread shows the T-Rex continuing the wreak havoc in the fight. Both Spider-Men (original and Skrull) are shown being tossed around by the T-Rex.
583.680
[Pgs. 2 - 22] The T-Rex launches Spider-Man away from the center of the battle into the middle of the jungle. There he is approached by Ka-Zar, Shanna and Zabu. Spider-Man is convinced they are Skrulls and after a little back and forth they realize they're on the same side. Ka-Zar references and event that occurred 'months ago' when the New Avengers were attacked by SHIELD agents in the Savage Land (around the time of New Avengers #4). But before they could figure out what is going on, they're all attacked by Captain America!
583.700
Spider-Man, Ka-Zar and Shanna are in shock to see Captain America but are convinced he's not the real deal, because they know that Cap is dead. Nevertheless, this Cap is convinced he's real and demands transport back to the mainland. When Ka-Zar refuses, he attacks them. Spider-Man tries to quell the situation but it is to no avail. Cap is then struck with a blowdart from one of Ka-Zar men, Cap passes out and soon reverts to a Skrull. Shanna thinks Spider-Man is Skrull too, so she grazes him with a dart, but he does not revert. Shanna then kills the Skrull-Cap as the group then makes their way back to the battlefield.
583.720
Spider-Man, Ka-Zar and Shanna regroup with the other heroes and trust is at an all-time low as they all accuse each of being Skrulls. Emma Frost joins the group and claims to be the real-deal, and accuses Spider-Man of being a Skrull. As Thor braces to attack, Reed Richards blasts the group with a laser that reveals who's a Skrull and who's not. The heroes are in shock to see this many Skrulls around them. With the Skrulls revealed, another round of fighting begins.
583.740
[Pgs. 1 - 16] After the Skrull-super heroes in the Savage Land retreat, Spider-Man and both Avenger teams return to New York City. Unfortunately for them, they find that the city is under siege by the Skrull army. Spider-Man and the other Avengers unload from the Quinjet and prepare to fight the Skrulls.
583.760
[Pg. 13] As Spider-Man and the other heroes square off against the Skrulls, Spidey spots the Thunderbolts join the fight as well. Spider-Man is not too thrilled to see the Norman Osborn-led Thunderbolts, including Venom, as allies in this fight...but you take what you can get.
583.780
[Pgs. 17 - 22] Iron Man makes the call, "Avengers Assemble" and a massive battle in New York City against Skrull army commences!
583.800
[Pgs. 17 - 20] Norman Osborn continues to demand that his team focus on the Skrulls (not the heroes that they also despise). Bullseye, with a rocket launcher in hand, instead sets his crosshairs on Spider-Man and Daredevil. In the end though, Bullseye does not fire at Spidey and DD, he hits a giant Skrull in the eye with the rocket. *Note There's a similar scene depicted in Secret Invasion #7 that can be conflated with this scene. However, there are two key differences. For one, Spidey is not in the crosshair in Secret Invasion #7. Second, Bullseye has a different gun in Secret Invasion #7.
583.820
Spider-Man makes a single (splash) page appearance in this scene which depicts Spider-Man battling the Skrulls in the giant battle in New York City.
583.840

583.920
[Pgs. 3 - 23] Spider-Man and the other heroes continue their slug-fest with the Skrulls as the battle for New York (and Earth!) rages on. Spidey even makes a slick comment to Iron Fist that the situation is not that dire since Uatu (the Watcher) has not shown up yet...within seconds Uatu arrives. With the Skrulls sensing that they may be defeated, Skrull-Hank Pym triggers a chemical bomb that he secretly placed inside the Wasp (Janet Van Dyne), who suddenly becomes massive as she nears detonation. Spider-Man and the rest of the heroes struggle as she reaches critical mass.

584.040
[Pgs. 8 - 22] Peter Parker makes a single panel non-speaking cameo attending a funeral for what appears to be a member of the Daily Bugle staff who may have passed away during the Skrull invasion. No name is provided and it is not 100% clear that Peter Parker is represented there, however, it does appear that many other staff members are there (Urich, Jameson, Joe Robertson)...so it is possible that Peter is depicted in this scene. It is worth including this appearance in the chronology for completeness.
584.050
[Pgs. 3 - 20] The day after the battle with the Skrulls ends, Spider-Man joins his fellow (secret) Avengers at their headquarters. The group welcomes (lukewarmly) the 'true' Spider-Woman back into their ranks as well as Captain America (Bucky Barnes). With their mission complete, Osborn tries to arrest Spider-Man and his fellow Avengers, but Thor arrives and tells Norman he must either face him in battle or leave. Norman and his goons leave.

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance alongside Ronin (Clint Barton), Wolverine, Captain America (Bucky Barnes) and Ms. Marvel in Philadelphia as the group battles a giant plant monster. The significance of this sequence is that Wanda Maximoff, who hadn't been seen for months at this point, suddenly appears then disappears in front of Spider-Man and his fellow Avengers. Spider-Man is not seen again in this story...presumably they end up defeating the plant monster.

Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo at the conclusion of this story as Captain America (Bucky Barnes) informs Spider-Man and the other Avengers (Wolverine, Luke Cage, Ms. Marvel and Ronin) that the Agents of Atlas are a threat and that they could arm HAMMER and thus, Norman Osborn. Cap and his team decide that they must raid the Agents of Atlas' facilities in order to stop them. What Cap and the others don't know is that the weapons deal that Atlas has been planning is just a front to allow them to get close to Norman Osborn in order stop him.

Cap, Spider-Man and the other New Avengers raid an Atlas Global site and uncover weapons and tech that can be used to track super heroes. The Avengers are confronted by the Agents of Atlas and just before a battle royale starts, Spider-Man shoots a web-net between the two groups and pleads for them not to fight. Spidey goes on to explain that the weapons have no power cell (and thus useless) and that the Agents could have put Osborn onto them (since they read Cap's mind in the Agents of Atlas #4), but they did not. Spider-Man suggests that the Agents of Atlas aren't what they seem. Jimmy Woo, the leader of the Agents of Atlas, decides to come clean with Spider-Man and the others. However, before Woo can explain what is going on M-11, a robot member of the group, uses voice recognition on Wolverine and blasts him and the other Avengers with a laser (clearly M-11 shares a history with Wolverine). This causes both groups to attack each other and a brawl breaks out. The battle rages on and when Spider-Man tries to prevent Venus from escaping, she puts him into some sort of love trance. Soon after, Venus neutralizes all the Avengers with a mind-controlling love song which causes them to give up the fight. Woo and his team leave, telling the Avengers they shall cross paths again. After the Agents of Atlas leave, Spider-Man and the other Avengers eventually head out on their way as well. Later, Woo continues his farce of an arms dealer with Norman Osborn, in order to continue to gain his trust.

When Carol Danvers is investigating a CIA operation at a dock in Queens, Spider-Man interrupts the process just as Danvers is about to kill one of the perps. Spidey pretty much webs up everyone in order to quell the situation, but ultimately it doesn't stop the conflict because Danvers is relentless. Soon after, heavily armed troops start firing on the two of them, so Spidey web-slings them both out of harm's way. Danvers tells Spider-Man that although she still has her powers, she cannot currently use them (which is why Spidey is hauling her around). Despite Ms. Marvel not providing Spider-Man with much information about what she's doing, the web-slinger goes along with her and helps to defeat the CIA operatives (he webs them down because he doesn't feel comfortable beating them up). Eventually Danvers leaves Spider-Man behind and enters one of the shipping containers. Inside she finds a little girl, known as the Essential. In short, the Essential is an immortal little girl that feeds on information, she had been locked up since she was found in the late fifties. Danvers asks the little girl for information on Norman Osborn. The Essential gives Danvers 80 terraflops of data on the former Green Goblin, she then warns Danvers that Norman sees her as a great threat and that he will destroy her. Meanwhile, outside the storage container Spider-Man is cornered by the military operatives who try to detain him. Spider-Man manages to escape the hail of bullets and catches up with Danvers as she leaves the storage container. She gives Spider-Man a bag and says that in two weeks, she wants him to deliver it to locker 2121 at Grand Central. Spider-Man, angered by the constant tasks with minimal information, says he'll do it, only if she promises to go on a date with him. As Danvers walks away she reluctantly obliges. A joyful Spider-Man web-swings away from the docks! *Note In this issue the little robotic girl provides Norman's middle name, "Virgil."

After working with Wolverine alongside their fellow Avengers to defeat the Wrecking Crew and following the news about the drama surrounding the mutant community, Spider-Man decides to pop in on Wolverine at a dive bar to provide him something of an intervention. He tells Wolverine that he's running himself ragged with all the teams he's on, and that it seems like Wolverine is trying to get himself killed. Wolverine doesn't want to hear any of it, and he Spidey nearly come to blows. Just then, a group of masked criminals arrives to rob the bar. Spider-Man and Wolverine make quick work of the group. As Wolverine prepares to walk off, he tells Spider-Man that he's right about everything that he said. Apparently Wolverine's past has begun to catch up to him and he can't sleep or forget about the people he may have harmed. Spider-Man makes a single panel appearance when Danny Ketch drains Johnny Storm of his Ghost Rider powers. Spider-Man, who is in New York City and thus far-removed from Ketch and Blaze, is able to sense this traumatic event because of his Spider-sense. Other super-powered beings gifted with a 'sixth sense' (like Brother Voodoo and Man-Thing) also pick up on this event as well. *Note This was a very common theme for Spider-Man (sensing some sort of pain at a distance) in the 90s, and had not been used much since then as a guest appearance.

After Deadpool is framed for a murder, he becomes a wanted man by vigilantes and the authorities alike. A gambler by the name of Conrad, who is in deep debt with Tombstone, was behind Deadpool's framing (Conrad bet Tombstone that Deadpool won't make it through the next 24 hours). Spider-Man eventually tracks down Deadpool, who was in the middle of shaking down a petty thug for info on Tombstone. When Spider-Man prepares to take Deadpool in to the authorities, his head explodes. Frank Castle blew his head up with a sniper shot from a nearby rooftop.
589.820
Spider-Man and Daredevil help Deadpool to recover from having his head blown off at a hotel in Essex. Spider-Man apologizes to Deadpool for presuming that the Merc was guilty. After some ball-busting between Spider-Man and Deadpool, the three agree to split up to go find Tombstone. Eventually Deadpool tracks him down and Spider-Man joins them (he placed a Spider-tracer on Deadpool). Just when they think they have the villain cornered, Tombstone shows that he has the Wrecking Crew on his side...

Spider-Man and Deadpool go toe-to-toe with the Wrecking Crew and the battle is fairly even. However, the Wrecking Crew eventually gains the upper hand and corners the two heroes. Just when it looks like they're done for, Frank Castle arrives on the scene garbed with all kinds of villain tech and blasts the Wrecking Crew with his new weaponry. With the Wrecking Crew defeated, Deadpool goes out after Tombstone (he is eventually able to defeat him). Spider-Man is not seen again in the story.

[Pgs. 1 - 6] As Spider-Man is web-swinging through the city on a beautiful morning, a laser beam comes flying passed him, yet his Spider-sense does not alert him to the danger. The source of the laser blast was Jake Gallows (aka Punisher 2099) and Spider-Man quickly confronts him. The Punisher tells Spidey that he's being punished for crimes against humanity. Gallows lands his second laser blast that, through a temporal anomaly, sends Spider-Man into the future, specifically Manhattan 2099.

[Pg. 4 panels 3 - 4] Once Spider-Man arrived in 2099, he was immediately pursued by Synthia Corporation agents and eventually captured.

[Pgs. 7 - 22] After being captured by the Synthia Corporation, Spider-Man is drugged and imprisoned by them. Inside his cell, whilst straight-jacketed and about to pass out, Spidey is joined by Shakti Hadad. She is a psychic mutant (who's brain is outside of her head), and she is able to see Spider-Man's past by touching him.
589.940
As Spider-Man and Shakti remain in the Synthia Corporation's cell, Shakti senses that Spider-Man has arrived at this point in time from the past. She also mistakes Peter's personal history for that of Jake Gallows, this allows Shakti to uncover that it was Punisher 2099 who sent Spider-Man into the future. Later, Shakti begins to panic as she can sense that "time" itself is beginning to break.
589.960
"Timestorm 2009-2099: Spider-Man" Spider-Man and Shakti escape from the Synthia Corporation's prison. Eventually Spider-Man teams up with a teenage Miguel O'Hara, who had recently received his spider-powers. Miguel and Peter team up against Miguel's friend, Kron Stone, who had overdosed on Scorpion genetic material and thus...became a scorpion. After defeating Kron, Peter makes Miguel promise that he will no longer wear the Spider-Man costume and fight crime. *Note This "Miguel O'Hara" is an alternate universe version of the original Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099.
589.980
Spider-Man, beaten, exhausted and out of web of fluid, vows to get himself back to the past from which he came. He sees Miguel O'Hara swing by and he goes after him, telling him that Miguel needs to get rid of that costume (this comes from a conversation they had in the Timestorm 2009-2099 Spider-Man one shot). Spider-Man was reluctant to train the newly-super powered O'Hara. Miguel swears that he will get rid of it, although his comrade Relur (aka Human Torch 2099) does not think Miguel should give up being a super hero. Eventually, Spider-Man then goes back with Miguel to his apartment and when looking out the high rise window they see a strange scene. New York City split in half...one half is 2099 the other is 2009!
590.000
With the world split between the present and the future (2099 and 2009), chaos reigns supreme in New York City and beyond as time runs out for both eras. Spider-Man insists that Miguel and Relur return home to safety, but they do not listen him, suddenly a scream from Shakti deafens the three heroes. Spider-Man makes his way to Shakti who tells him that time is broken and cannot be fixed and that he must return home now or he will never make it back. Shakti goes on to say that help is on the way (she's a little all-over-the-place at this point). Help does arrive though, in the form of the Ghost Rider from 2099 named Zero Cochrane. He approaches Shakti and allows her to see his last scrap of humanity (ie, his scarred face). Shakti receives a message from Dr. Doom via his scar which informs her that Doom had sacrificed himself to save time. Shakti is then able to re-separate the past from the future, restoring everything back to normal. Unfortunately, she has to sacrifice herself in order to fix everything. In the story's epilogue, Spider-Man notes that he had met Miguel before, but that something was different about him. Spider-Man is correct, this was an alternate version of the Miguel he had met years before. He also mentions that his memory of this event and those of the past are all blurry now. *Note There is an interesting scene where Spider-Man actually saves Norman Osborn from being injured by the Ghost Rider by catching him in a web-net...Norman probably loved that!

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance when he's confronted by a green-colored faceless being composed entirely of energy. This being snags his web-line while he's in the middle of web-slinging through the city, singing joyfully to himself. The being, which has taken a female form, speaks in a language unrecognizable to Spider-Man. Since the being can't communicate directly with him, it makes a different gesture...a symbol in the shape of Ms. Marvel's emblem. A similar energy being does the same thing to Luke Cage and Wolverine at their Avengers HQ. *Note Carol Danvers, aka Ms. Marvel, was 'killed' during a confrontation with Ghazi Rashid, who had been enhanced with Ascension, which was provided by Norman Osborn. Danvers disintegrated into a giant flash of light and energy. Also, when the green-colored being confronts Spider-Man, she grabs his web-line and pulls him down. Ms. Marvel did this exact same thing when she confronted him at the beginning of Ms. Marvel (Vol. 2) Annual #1.
590.040
Spider-Man continues to track the green-colored being composed of energy through the city, which leads him to a series of shipping containers on the docks and before he knows it, Spider-Man is side by side with Wolverine. The two Avengers are now surrounded by four different-colored faceless beings (with a female body shape). The beings manage to speak a coherent language now that they're all adjacent to each other. They tell Spider-Man and Wolverine to "listen to the babies." In front of the two heroes is a dozen or so containers filled with baby MODOKs. When Spider-Man expresses that he's still unsure who these beings are and what they want, they provide a concrete answer saying, "I am Ms. Marvel!" Soon after, Spider-Man and the rest of his Avenger allies make their way to Los Angeles and storm a AIM facility to return the baby MODOKs. Karla Sofen, aka Dark Ms. Marvel, tracks the heroes to the location and attacks Spider-Man as he attempts to reconnect the MODOKs (the baby MODOKs told Spidey telepathically what to do). Sofen's attack on Spidey is thwarted by Spider-Woman, which enables the web-slinger to connect all the MODOKs. After he does so, the four different-colored energy beings converge into one...Ms. Marvel has returned!

Spider-Man makes a single page appearance at the beginning of this story, which picks up immediately following the conclusion of the prior issue in which Carol Danvers has returned as Ms. Marvel. A bit disillusioned as to what just happened (her body reforming from a quartet of colored-beings of energy), Danvers takes a minute to realize she's face to face with Karla Sofen (aka Moonstone, aka Dark Ms. Marvel). Danvers then attacks Sofen. Spider-Man witnesses the initial attack but is not seen again in the story.
590.080
Spider-Man and his fellow Avengers eventually return to New York and after Carol Danver's battle with Karla Sofen in LA, and after destroying one of Osborn's Goblin Hideouts, Danvers joins the other Avengers. Carol's demeanor is eerily stoic, so much so that Spider-Man feels compelled to ask her how she's doing. After finally working up the nerve to ask her, Carol snaps at Spidey and grabs him by the neck. She claims that he is no warrior if he wants to talk about feelings while their enemies are still out there. She then throws Spidey to the ground and leaves the Avenger's base. Spider-Man is not seen again in the story.

When Spider-Man witnesses the Punisher about to kill two women (who look like they could be strippers), the web-slinger decides to intervene. What Spider-Man doesn't know is that these two woman are villains named Letha and Lascivious, who had been resurrected by the Hood and directed to kill Frank. The only way they can stay alive is if they kill Castle within 24 hours. Spider-Man's presence distracts Frank, which enables Letha to knock the Punisher through a plate-glass window. Spider-Man realizes these women aren't victims, so he webs up Letha, but not before she puts him under mind control with the directive to kill the Punisher. Spider-Man then attacks Castle while the ladies escape. The Punisher struggles to get Spider-Man to return to normal, but he manages to shoot down a giant hardware store sign that lands on the two ladies getaway vehicle. As Castle approaches with the intent of killing the two women, Spider-Man stops him because he doesn't want to see the Punisher murdering people. This time Lascivious puts Spider-Man under her spell, causing Spidey to profess his man-love for Castle and allowing the two villains to escape.

Spider-Man attends Ben Grimm and Deborah Green's wedding. However, Grimm gets cold feet and leaves the ceremony and heads to a bar. When Deborah approaches him at the bar Ben tells her that he can't marry her because he does not want to hurt her. Grimm goes on to explain to the confused Deborah that when he saw Spider-Man, Daredevil, Namor and Banner at the wedding, he realized that they all lost someone they love because of their superheroism. He doesn't want to lose her that way. Spider-Man even tells Deborah that he thinks about Gwen everyday and wishes (for her sake) he'd never met her. Debbie and Ben decide to remain friends even though they're not getting married. *Note Considering Peter lost his marriage to MJ because of Spider-Man, one would think that would be the more relevant example. After Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel team up to stop a D-List villain, Danvers tells Spidey the reason she asked him to meet her out was so he could cash in on the date she owed him (from Ms. Marvel (Vol. 2) #34). Soon after, the two are out on a date at a nice restaurant and Carol even volunteered to treat since Peter was low on cash at the moment. As Peter and Carol's date stumbles along awkwardly, they discuss everything from Norman Osborn to the ability make your hair move. Meanwhile, outside the restaurant two HAMMER operatives stalk Danvers with the objective of arresting her (in order to get a promotion), they have no idea who the guy she is with is. Seconds later, as Peter and Carol's conversation struggles to get any drier, the two HAMMER operatives come bursting through the window. Danvers immediately converts to Ms. Marvel, Peter remains at the table eating. Ms. Marvel quickly dispatches the two agents, apologizes to the restaurant owner (she claims these two stole HAMMER tech) and then tells the owner to call Norman Osborn at Avengers Tower to foot the bill for the damage caused. She then scoops up Peter and the two fly off. Still hungry, Carol points out a nearby hotdog stand, Peter says that stand is no good and recommends a different one. After the fallout from the Skrull Secret Invasion, the 'real' Jessica Drew (aka Spider-Woman) became an agent of the intergalactic peace-keeping force known as SWORD. Her missions have consisted of hunting down rogue Skrulls across the globe. Her most recent mission has brought her to Madripoor (in southeast Asia), where she battles a shape-shifting Skrull in an attempt to bring him into custody. Spider-Man and his fellow New Avengers (Ms. Marvel, Wolverine, Luke Cage, Ronin, Mockingbird and Bucky-Cap) arrive in Madripoor to help Jessica (they had heard about the Thunderbolt's recent attack on her). The Skrull flees when he sees the Avengers arrive. At first, Drew is convinced Spider-Man and the rest of the heroes are Skrulls, but her watch (which can detect Skrulls) tells her they're human. [Pgs. 6 - 28] At the conclusion of World War Hulk, the Hulk reverted back to being Bruce Banner and was carted off by SHIELD agents. However, it turns out that he wasn't ever taken to a SHIELD facility, rather a secret "Gamma Base" where he was experimented on. She-Hulk uncovers this information and relays it over to Ben Urich. She tells him that he must go with her to Las Vegas to investigate this further and get to the bottom of it and she says to bring a photographer. Urich nabs Peter Parker for the job. Shortly after, Peter, She-Hulk, Ben and Doc Samson infiltrate the Las Vegas base (with Peter and Ben disguised as AIM scientists). Their cover is blown when Doc Samson 'Hulks-out' and She-Hulk struggles to calm him down. The Red Hulk then spots Urich, but Peter changes into his Spider-Man costume and defends Urich. The Red Hulk and Spider-Man tussle, with Spidey doing his best evasive actions. Just when the Red Hulk is about to put the smash down on Spidey, Banner converts to the Hulk and breaks free from his containment unit to save Spider-Man. The Red Hulk and the (green) Hulk then battle it out as Spider-Man rushes to save Urich. The building detonates just as Spider-Man and Ben get out safely. Spidey then changes back into the AIM scientist (ie, bee-keeper) outfit and meets up with Ben outside the destroyed facility. Peter tells Ben Spider-Man saved him, Ben tells him the same thing. Peter then apologizes that he doesn't have his camera and thus any pictures. Ben is just happy they're alive.

Aunt May had set Peter up on a blind date with her newest volunteer at the FEAST food shelter, Hebe, daughter of Zeus and wife of Hercules. Obviously, Hercules is none-too-pleased that his wife is going on dates (despite that fact the he views her as property and has been very unfaithful himself...). Hercules, after a tip from Aunt May, tracks down Peter and Hebe on their date...he wastes no time knocking Peter around. In fact, he sends Peter flying so far that he's able to change into his Spider-Man costume and convince Hercules that he's hid Peter somewhere safely. Spidey and Hercules proceed to duke it out, which basically consists of the web-slinger dodging Herc's attacks. Spider-Man tries to convince Hercules that he shouldn't be treating Hebe like she's his property. Herc is not having any of it, and he eventually buries Spidey in a pile of cars. However, Hebe confronts Hercules and calls out his bad behavior as a husband. The two eventually make up...and leave Spider-Man buried under the pile of cars.

After Athena, Hercules' sister, gets word that his mother-in-law, Hera, is planning on unleashing the "Continuum" (an extinction level event), she helps round up some help. First on her list is Spider-Man and his fellow Avengers. The group, using Hebe's knowledge of Olympus, decides that they will attack the Olympians stronghold (with Herc as their leader). Soon after, they do so, unfortunately, Hera's forces are ready for them.
615.150
Spider-Man and the Avengers continue to battle Hera's forces at Olympus. The group gets divided up a bit, and Spider-Man ends up battling Arachne (female God of Spiders). Spider-Man is able to handle her at first, but soon she turns the tables on the web-slinger, wrapping him up in a set of her own webs.
615.200
Spider-Man, still webbed up from his battle with Arachne, is freed by Wolverine just after Hercules sacrifices himself (by sealing the portal) to stop the quantum transfer into Continuum. Hercules dies to stop Hera's plan, Spider-Man and the other heroes are distraught to see Herc fall.
615.250

After failing to join the X-Men, Wade Wilson (aka Deadpool) comes to New York City so that he can learn from Spider-Man...of course, Spider-Man has no desire or idea about this plan. Peter Parker bumps into Wilson at the beginning of the story (obviously Deadpool doesn't know that Peter is Spider-Man), so Peter was aware that Deadpool is in town. As Deadpool tries to get Spider-Man's attention (it is later revealed that he took out an ad at the Front Line newspaper), Peter stumbles into what appears to be a gangland massacre. After speaking to the police, who suggested a professional hitman did this, Spider-Man immediately thinks Deadpool is behind it. After he attacks, beats up and webs up Deadpool, Spider-Man eventually confirms his alibi, letting Deadpool off the hook. The two then work together to solve the mystery of this multiple homicide case. After observing the crime scene, Deadpool suggests who the killer may be...Hit-Monkey!
624.580
After turning down Deadpool's request to crash at his place, Spider-Man trails the Merc throughout the evening, still convince he had killed Mr. Cheng. Deadpool gets a bit of validation however, when two crooked cops turn up dead with a monkey paw print left behind in blood. Spider-Man then catches up with Deadpool as the two discuss what is the best plan to catch the Hit-Monkey. Before they know it, the Hit-Monkey barges into the room and begins firing at both of them (Hit-Monkey was after Deadpool and had apparently tailed Spider-Man in order to find him). Spidey web-swings the two to safety and then comes up with a plan...use Deadpool as bait (since he can't die) and let the Hit-Monkey think he's succeeded. While the two argue over whether or not the plan should be implemented, the Hit-Monkey returns and unloads on the two of them. Hit-Monkey has the opportunity to kill Spider-Man, but does not, however when Deadpool threatens the monkey, it attacks the Merc!
624.600
After the attack by the Hit-Monkey, Spider-Man takes Deadpool the Fantastic Four Headquarters to recover. With Wade healed, the two leave and return to Deadpool's hotel room. While Peter thinks Wilson is using the bathroom, Wade sneaks out of the window, with a spare Spider-Man costume. He then dons the costume and fakes Spider-Man's death which makes huge news coverage. Shortly after, there's a memorial service held for Spidey and the Hit-Monkey attends (he felt guilty because the news reports suggested it was his shoulder shot that caused Spider-Man his life). When Hit-Monkey approaches the casket, Deadpool pops out and havoc ensues (despite the police's efforts). Eventually Spider-Man quells the situation by neutralizing Hit-Monkey, there's a brief moment when Deadpool and Hit-Monkey seem to connect. That ends when the monkey bites him in the face. The two then fire their broken guns at each other, which causes a massive explosion. Deadpool ends up in jail and Spider-Man breaks through the prison wall to tell him to leave New York, he also lectures him on what it means to be a good guy. Spidey then swings off, away from the prison.

When an android begins wreaking havoc throughout New York City, Spider-Man steps up and tries to stop him. He's successful at first, but the android continues to get bigger and bigger and break free from Spidey's webs. Eventually Spider-Man's New Avengers allies join up with him and they realize it is Growing Man, an android associated with Kang from years ago. As Growing Man continues to get bigger and bigger, the Agents of Atlas arrive on the scene to help the Avengers. Namora grabs Wolverine and flies him all over the Growing Man, allowing the X-Men to slice into thousand pieces...defeating the villain. There's a brief pause while the Avengers reconcile their last run-in with the Agents of Atlas, in which they thought they were criminals. Wolverine explains that they were just putting sting on Osborn. Suddenly a time phenomena occurs, ripping a hole in space-time as it sucks the New Avengers in and spits the original Avengers back out!
624.625
Spider-Man makes a single page appearance after the Agents of Atlas (with help from the original Avengers) eliminate the Chronovirus (the thing causing the time phenomena) and return the New Avengers back to where they belong. Unfortunately, they're not in New York City, rather Norway, but the Agents give them a ride back home.

624.700
As the Red She-Hulk continues to smash her way through the Avengers Headquarters (which in this case is the Avengers Infinite Mansion, designed by Hank Pym), Spider-Man does his best to protect his fellow Avengers (and himself!). Red She-Hulk's target is Pym and she's eventually able to nab him. Which means that the Leader and MODOK (who the Red She-Hulk is working for) have kidnapped 5 of the 8 smartest people in the world (Pym, McCoy, T'Challa, Doom and Reed Richards). Thus, Bruce Banner forms a team to go get them back, which includes Namor, Spider-Man, Korg, Amadeus Cho and Wolverine. All of whom have lost someone very close to them (for Spidey it's Gwen Stacy). Banner chose them because they understand loss and so they would be the most empathetic to him potentially losing his wife Betty Ross. They all agree to work with Banner.
624.720
[Pgs. 1 - 15] After Banner fails to convince Betty to come with him, he joins Spider-Man and the rest of his recently assembled team attempt to rescue their friends, who are located in the Leader's secret fortress hovering above Washington, DC. Spider-Man, Wolverine and Skaar take on the Frightful Four while Bruce Banner and Lyra (the other She-Hulk) try to pull of the rescue mission (they're also looking to free Jennifer Walters aka the original She-Hulk).
624.740
[Pgs. 6 - 7] Spider-Man makes a single (splash) page appearance in this sequence which depicts the all-out brawl he's participating in alongside Skaar, Wolverine and Namor. They're taking on the Frightful Four at the Leader's floating fortress high above Washington, DC.

The Leader activates his Cathexis Ray and converts everyone in the proximal area (including Spider-Man, Wolverine, Korg and War Machine) into Hulked-out versions of themselves...
624.780
The Hulked-out Spider-Man and Wolverine, under the control of the Leader, attack the Red Hulk. Their attempt is not very successful though, as the Red Hulk tosses them to the side effortlessly.
624.800
Hulked-out Thor finds Hulked-out Spider-Man and insists the two work together to defeat the Red Hulk (which is part of the Leader and Intelligencia's plan). They start out working together, but then Spider-Hulk breaks formation to go into the Natural History Museum to read and learn. This angers Thor mightily and the two begin to fight.
624.820
Spider-Hulk and Thor-Hulk continue to battle it out inside the museum, and Spider-Hulk gets the upper hand when Mjolnir becomes to heavy for Thor-Hulk to lift. However, the two are attacked by a handful of Red Hulked-out marines. Spider-Hulk struggles to fight them off, but Thor-Hulk returns to the battle and helps even the scales. The story ends mid-battle.
624.840
Spider-Man makes single panel non-speaking cameo when Reed Richards, Pym and Bruce Banner manage to reverse the Cathexis Ray, converting the Hulked-out heroes back to normal. However, in order to do so, Banner had to sacrifice himself to keep the machine running, the process turned him back into the Hulk. Spider-Man witnesses his emergence from the explosion.
624.860
Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo after Bruce Banner had returned to being the Hulk. At that same moment, Bruce Banner had pre-recorded a message to heroes because he had anticipated that this may happen. He tells the heroes you cannot stop the Hulk, he's still filled with too much rage. Instead he says to protect the innocents and clear the way for his son, who has the same amount of rage. Spider-Man does just that, and immediately helps civilians. Spider-Man is not seen again in the story.

Killraven gives them a dire warning of things to come, suddenly they look outside and New York City is being overrun by both the past and the future (there's dinosaurs, Galactus and alien technology galore)!
647.600

Killraven remains behind with them and Steve Rogers asks Noh-Varr to join the Avengers team as well.
