Background

This colouring & activity pad from Alligator was for sale only in the United Kingdom.

Story Details

The pad is is 8.25" x 11.7" in size, which is quite large. It also appears to be quite hefty when picked up, but unfortunately that's a little deceptive, and in fact much of the bulk is due to the very sturdy piece of grey cardboard which sets at the back of the pad.

In terms of actual content, there are 32 sheets of clean white paper in the pad, but since each one is only printed on one side then that adds up to only 32 pictures or activity pages.

The paper is good quality. The artwork is clean line-art. The variety isn't great, and Spider-Man features on nearly every page! The villain count is disappointingly low, although we do get appearances from Venom, Morbius, Lizard, Mysterio and even Hammerhead. Sandman makes a cameo too.

At least half the pages are simple colouring pages. There's a few puzzles, games, dot-to-dots, and such. But mostly it's colouring.

General Comments

The line art on all these Alligator books is perfectly adequate. Sure, there's a bit of cross-over between the various books in the series, but at least they make a bit of an effort to produce some variety in the format of the books... small colouring books, pads, jumbo books, etc.

Overall Rating

As mentioned, having the pages one-sided does mean there's only 32 pictures. Mind you, this pad retailed for a pretty cheap £2.99, so it's not an exceptionally pricey book. Also, if you're using water-coloured paints to colour-in, then you probably couldn't actually paint both sides anyhow without getting bleed-through.

All-in-all, with perfectly acceptable artwork and manufacture, this is a decent product at a fair price.

Three webs from me.
