Background

This books brings you instructions and artwork for creating a host of Spidey party fun. Actually, Spidey's the title character and gets probably half the pages to himself, but there's also fair mix of Hulk, X-Men and Daredevil party fun in here too!

Story Details

This is a magazine-sized book, 8.25" x 10.75". Cover is gloss card stock, and the interior pages are high-quality white paper with rich full-color art work throughout. Interior is 96 pages total.

Let's just check out the Spidey stuff. First up, there's some splendid invitations. You'll need a few tools, like some card, a sharp knife, and color photocopies of the artwork at the back of the book... but hey, if you're going to throw a decent party, then let's not hear any whining just because you have to actually get a bit constructive here!

Then there's a Spidey cake recipe. Yum! A Spidey photo frame to build for some lucky kid to enjoy. There's a web-dangling party game to build, a different set of invitations, another completely different cake, some party sweets, Spidey pizza, another game, another invitation, a third cake - this time shaped like a fantastic Spidey face mask! Then a seat-namer, and a place-mat just to finish off. WHEW!

There's more where that came from, this time in Hulk, X-Men and Daredevil flavours. Of course it's not all 100% authentic. Check out this quote from the back cover... "My keen senses tell me you're in for the birthday party of a lifetime." My keen senses? That's "Spider-Sense", you nincompoops! But hey, they can't quote Spidey, I can't create a cake recipe. We all have our strengths and weaknesses.

General Comments

All the cakes look pretty easy to make, actually. In fact, they're actually based on buying a sponge cake and just doing the decorating yourself. Of course, if you're a baking kind of person, you'll bake your own cake using your favourite recipe and then just do their decorations. Either way, this book is perfectly practical, and full of funky ideas.

The party invitations and games all look fairly straight-forward to make. I know that Spidey is particularly popular for parties these days. My local toy-store owner said that last halloween he sold out of Spidey costumes in no time! My local pre-school said they held a costume day, and half of the boys came as Spider-Man!

Gosh... you'd have to be a really bad parent not to buy this book and make a Spidey-themed party for your young child! Go on... if you love them, then give them Spidey!

Overall Rating

It's a bit hard to rate a book like this. But given the quality of the artwork, the simple instructions, and the absolute coolness of the cakes, I'm gonna give this a pretty high rating I think. Let's say four webs!
