Background

This backup story features the Hulk, and is clearly part two in an three-part arc for which I (as yet) have not acquired the first or final segments.

Clearly something has gone before. I have no idea what, but all we know is that our story opens with Bruce Banner asleep in a prison cell.

It's a funny sort of cell - part of a network of cells, separated only by bars, such as you would see in a collection of short-term holding cells. However, it is also a sleeping cell, as it contains two well-fitted beds. So it's unlikely to be a holding cell. Really, beds with no walls is a very unusual arrangement.

In fact, it's a multiple-occupancy sleeping cell with bars and no walls, which is even more unusual. Sure, some prisons use double bunking. But that is with bunk beds and walled cells. Really, this is the most unlikely prison cell configuration I can imagine. All I can suspect is that penciler John Royle has never done any time in the big house.

But for the sake of the story, all that matters is that Bruce has been placed in a cell with a brutal cell-mate named "Bart" who immediately starts assaulting Banner. Naturally, Banner turns into the Hulk and retaliates. This is an out-of-continuity Green Hulk who seems to posses normal human intelligence and self-control when in Hulk form. As Bill O'Reilly would say... "You can't explain that!"

The police arm up and attack the Hulk, leading to a stare-down between Hulk and the local sheriff. Laughing, the Hulk agrees to back off, and leaps away, to confront a Hulk-Buster plane. The final battle looms... next issue!

General Comments

Hulk fight! And... um... that's about it.

Overall Rating

I have no idea what's going on, but I'm not impressed.

Two webs.
