Background

Todd DeZago takes a bash at a flashback - aided and abetted by Stan "Should Know Better" Lee.

Story 'Here There be Monsters'

A very young Peter Parker makes a tent of his blankets and reads monster comics with a torch before falling asleep. Bright and early the next morning his Uncle Ben takes him fishing - but as they sit in the boat in the middle of a lake 'somewhere in Westchester', they are besieged by huge mosters.

As creature after creature advances on them, Peter recognises them as the monsters from his comics, and devises a way to defeat all but one - who grabs Uncle Ben, and then... Peter Wakes Up! Yes, in the finest traditions of "Dallas" - It Was All Just a Dream! Incredible! Such Creativity! Such Originality! Such Suspense! Such Bollocks!

Actually, it was Nightmare, the ghoul who feasts on fear. Stan Lee actually KOs Mr Mare with a squash racket - but it's too late, the damage is done, the comic is already defeated.

General Comments

Flashback? Actually, a better thing to do with this comic might be Flush-Bog. This one deserves to be given a royal swirly.

Overall Rating

A web and a half. I liked the bit where Uncle Ben is saying what a shame it is that none of Peter's friends could come fishing too, and Peter can't bear to tell him that he doesn't have any. Childhood can be tough sometimes, DeZago got that right if nothing else.
