Here's Oracular Wisdom a-plenty. Note the increasing politeness of supplicants. While we do include as many Oracle responses as possible, it has become clear that the Mighty One showers his Sapient Favours more freely on those whose missives contain due deference to his Superior Status.

If you wish to see your response printed, or wish the Oracle to answer more difficult questions in great detail, you would be well advised to begin your request with a sufficiently submissive introduction. "O Mighty Oracle" is a good starting point, but don't feel limited in your entreaties.

From Willi

Dear All-Knowing Spider-Oracle, I have a few questions that I need your help to answer:

  1. What issue of what series did Peter quit working for the Daily Bugle?
  2. Why did Peter stop working for the Bugle?
  3. What did Aunt May and Mary Jane think of him quiting his career as a photographer?
  4. )Is he still friendly with Jonah, Robbie, and the rest of the gang at the Bugle or did he leave unfirendly with one or some of them?
  5. Why does Venom hate Spider-Man?
  6. What do you think of Ramos' art?
  7. How rich is Mary Jane? Doe she share her money with Peter?
  8. Is Mary Jane actually living with Peter, or is she just staying with him until her next photo shoot?
  9. Who is your all time favrite Spider-Man artist(s)?
  10. Could you PLEASE post this message at the site?

Thank you so much for taking the time to read all this.

Let's get you some answers, Willi, my friend.

  1. Pete hasn't really quit or been fired from the Bugle.
  2. As a freelancer, he can show up there as little or as much as he wants. However, with his new teaching job, he hasn't had much opportunity to go there lately.
  3. Aunt May and MJ haven't talked about Peter's less frequent visits to the Bugle, but it's safe to assume they support his career as a teacher.
  4. Peter is still friends with all the Bugle staff.
  5. Reporter Eddie Brock wrote a story exposing the serial killer Sin-Eater. When Spidey and DD captured the real Sin-Eater, Eddie's story was exposed as false and he was fired. Convinced that Spidey was evil for causing his unemployment, Eddie (bonded with the alien symbiote as Venom) seeks to kill Spider-Man, killing whoever gets in his way. Makes a whole lot of sense, doesn't it?
  6. If you can't say anything nice...
  7. Despite a brief stint as a "supermodel" during the Mackie/Byrne era, MJ isn't what most people would consider rich. She and Peter are quite comfortable, though. At least for the moment.
  8. They have moved back in together, and their marriage seems fully back on track.
  9. Mark Bagley.
  10. If you give me a dollar.

Hey I have a few questions.

  1. -Who is Jean Dewolff?
  2. -How does Spider-man Know her?
  3. -Why and how did she die?
  4. -Basically everything concerning her.

Thank you for letting me ask you these Questions, I truely respect your Spidey advice.

Well, STF, Jean was a police captain who first met Spidey in MARVEL TEAM-UP #48- 51. Throughout the following years, she and Spidey were friendly with each other, despite her gruff attitude. It was always nice for Spidey to know he had at least one friend on the police force. In a storyline that ran in SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN #107-110, Jean was shot and killed by the Sin-Eater. While tracking down his friend's killer, Spider-Man learned that Jean had had deeper feelings for him, leaving him even more devastated. Try and find the DEATH OF JEAN DeWOLFF trade paperback if you can.

Hey, I love SpiderGirl! She is my favorite hero! But I have two questions for you.

  1. Will any of the writers ever consider doing a Spider Girl movie in the near future? You can put the scarlet spider and everything in the movie and make sequels. It will be so cool if you do!
  2. Will the Scarlet Spider (Partner of Spider Girl) ever return in the comic books? Will she appear in Spider Girl's MArked for Death in issue 4,5,6?

SPIDER-GIRL is a great book, GC, but it doesn't look like a movie is in her future anytime soon. And as for the new Scarlet Spider (Felicity Hardy), when asked if she'll be showing up soon, writer Tom DeFalco gives an affirmative "Oh YEAH!"

I know that in Ultimate, Spider-Man's secret identity is almost public knowledge, but I'm confused about which of his allies know in the regular Marvel Universe.

I also have another question about Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends. Has Spider-Man, Iceman, and Firestar ever actually teamed up in the comics (besides the Spidey Friends comic series)?

Hi, Dunedian-Bor. You can check out the list of who knows Spidey's identity here: SpiderFan.org - Help : FAQ : Who Knows. As for Firestar, there have been plans in the past to have a Spidey/Iceman/Firestar team-up in the regular Marvel Universe, but none of them have worked out so far.

Oracle, got 3 questions for ya from your old buddy, sbpat.

  1. What kind of argument happened between Stan Lee and Steve Ditko that made Ditko walk out on Spidey forever?
  2. How come SMTW get canceled? I heard it was a popular series.
  3. Finally, I haven't seen ol' Scorpion in years. Where is the loony bird..eh.. arachnid?
  1. The most popular theory is that their falling out was over the identity of the Green Goblin. Steve wanted GG to be revealed as just some guy who was never seen before, while Stan felt they owed the readers some kind of big revelation, hence GG turning out to be Peter's friend's father.
  2. TANGLED WEB was not at all popular. Certainly not selling as much as a Spider-Man book should. A couple of stories got some raves in the industry, but by and large, it was shunned.
  3. Scorpy was last seen in PP:SM #54, and a few months before that in the one- shot SPIDER-MAN: SWEET CHARITY.

O Great and Arachnipotent Spider-Oracle... In perusing your response to GrandTheftGamer's query regarding the Osborn hair, I am reminded of a related question that I always had as a boy: If the Osborn hair is hereditary (as is certainly appears to be -- even Normie III in the MC2 universe is cursed with it!), then what's up with the Sandman? As far as I know, he is the only non-Osborn in the Marvel Universe with the same hair. Were Norman and Baker (aka Marko) actually twin brothers separated at birth???

Though the hair is similar, Sandman's is not identical to the Osborn hair (Just don't try to make me articulate the exact difference; I'm no hair stylist). That, of course, didn't stop John Byrne from deciding to make Norman Osborn and William Baker cousins in CHAPTER ONE #0. Thankfully, that's out the window.

From Brian

oh Great and Mighty Oracle On the main page there was a pole about characters that we havent seen in a while. Carnage was mentioned in this pole. This got me wondering, since I was out of the spider loop for a few years. Is Cletus Cassidy still alive? i know that there was some rediculous storyline where Venom ate the Carnage symbiote, but what happened from there? Did Cassidy die of cancer? If not, I would love to see another Carnage storyline. not anoter year long thing spanning every title, just a few issues would be nice, don't you think?

Carnage last reared his poorly conceived head in WEBSPINNERS #13-14. Though he's still alive, Carnage is not set to appear again anytime soon, Brian, though you do have Ultimate Carnage to look forward to within the next year.

From Hodgepodge72

I have a few questions about the symbiotes:

  1. Why does Venom's symbiote costume look so much more different than other symbiote costumes? For example, he has the white patches on his hands for the webbing, the big white spider on this chest, as well as most symbiotes either have no mouth at all or have a white hole for their mouth and white patches for their eyes when venom's eyes curl up to kind of form pupils and his mouth has real teeth, a long tongue and green ooze.
  2. Why is Carnage so powerful? Most symbiotes have about the same strength but Carnage's power just seem to overwhelm all the other symbiotes, even carnage's mothering symbiote venom, couldn't beat him.
  3. Why would venom use spider-man's webbing when he could use his own symbiote like webbing instead? Isn't it stronger than the grey web stuff spider-man uses?
  1. Why does Venom have a spider on his chest and back? Well, the most likely answer is that the symbiote was originally all black, but when it first came into contact with Spider-Man in SECRET WARS #8, it read Spidey's mind and altered it's appearance to resemble the costume of Spider-Woman II (Julia Carpenter) whom Spidey and the other heroes had just met. And as for the teeth & tongue, that's all artistic embellishment.
  2. The reason Carnage is somewhat different from other symbiotes is that it was born on a different planet than the others (namely, Earth).
  3. While it may look like Venom is using webbing identical to Spidey's, it was established in ASM # 300 that Venom's "webbing" is indeed part of his own alien mass that he has to regenerate.
From Paul

I will be eternally grateful if you could answer this for me! I have just read a 1974 Marvel British comic - Mighty World Of Marvel (Starring The Incredible Hulk) No. 95 And in that there's the story about the Masked Marauder and the World Motors Centre. (Which is how I came across your site, looking for the answer...) The last panel of the story shows Spidey about to beat up Foggy, having mistaken him for Daredevil, and DD is in a predicament unsure of what to do. I do not have the next issue of this comic (No. 96), but I HAVE to know what happened next?! What did DD do to stop Foggy taking a beating from Spidey, yet keep his own identity safe. I would be meag grateful if you cold please tell me.

What you have there, Paul, is the first of a two-part story that originally appeared in DAREDEVIL vol. 1 #16-17. You can find the answer to your question by reading our in-depth review of the story written by our own Al Sjoerdsma here, of the story named None are So Blind. Of course, you really need to read the story for yourself, and the easiest and cheapest way is to find a copy of ESSENTIAL DAREDEVIL #1.

From Greg

I saw a tradepaperback of Amazing Spider-Man: Until the Stars Turn Cold at a site and i was wondering what issues does it collect? Please help and thanks in advance.

Nothing easier, Greg. It reprints ASM vol. 2 #40-45.

From Julio DC

I have 2 questions for the GREAT Spider-Oracle

  1. I was wondering whatever happened to the Spider-Man mini series "Spider-Man/Black Cat: The Evil That Men Do"?
  2. What's the Black Cat up to now? Is she making appearances anywhere any time soon?
  1. Hmmmm.... I'm starting to think we should add this to the FAQ. The short answer is, writer Kevin Smith is busy doing important Hollywood stuff and can't be distracted by a little thing like doing his job. The last issue of the miniseries to come out (#3) was released on October 16, 2002, so we're closing in on the 1-year anniversary. Expect the final two issues to come out anytime between tomorrow and doomsday.
  2. Nobody else has immediate plans for Felicia, so if you want your Black Cat fix, Julio, it might be time to hit the back-issue bins.
From Latro
  1. Can you tell me the height and the weight of Jonathon Caesar?
  2. What do you now about Doctor Bromwell's life? Has any sons? Does he play any main role in any story? Everybody says "Aunt May has a health of iron", but it's Doc Bromwell's good work. Perhaps one day we'll see any descendant of him in Spider-Man's pages...
  1. Sure Latro. Caesar was about 6'1" and tipped the scales at 240 lbs.
  2. Well, I'm afraid that Doc Bromwell was just a minor recurring character from the Lee/Ditko and Lee/Romita days. Not much was established about him or his life. Though now that I think about it, I can easily picture him wearing the FACADE armor....
