Introduction: Amazing Spider-Man #346 was the first comic I bought. After seeing Larsen's Venom I was hooked. Spider-Man was, and still is, my favorite comic character despite the fact that my collection would grow beyond him. I stopped for about six years because Image had ruined the idea of a story-driven comic, but started again when the first Spider-Man movie came out. This time Bendis' Ultimate Spider-Man pulled me back and I've been collecting ever since. Collects: Everything. Including stuff from the Distinguished Competitor. Favorites: Any Spider-Man title (obviously), Avengers, X-Men, Wolverine, Daredevil, Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, Batman, JLA, All-Star Superman, 100 Bullets, Powers, and Y:The Last Man. Naturally, every major EVENT is included. House of M, Secret War, Civil War, World War Hulk, Infinite Crisis, 52, and the upcoming Secret Invasion and Final Crisis. Why Spider-Man: Once I read that first issue of Spidey I picked up I couldn't stop, whether I wanted to or not. It's the perfect media. You have the ability of words on the page to describe thought or time that is unavailable in movies, and the ability of pictures to show meaning that isn't available in literature. The best comics are those that take full advantage of both and tell a story that you can see, hear, smell, and feel without actually being a part of it. Favourites: Keep in mind I started collecting in 1991: ASM #345 (B-villians like Boomerang will always have a place in my heart) ASM #346-347 (My first taste of Venom, nuff' said) ASM #350 (Larsen's art with Spidey facing Dr. Doom) ASM #364 (I loved the Shocker, and the story involved NYC a lot which I liked) Spider-Man #18-23 (First taste of the Sinister Six. The story wasn't great, but the art was) USM #14-21 (Loved Ultimate Doc Ock and once again Spidey in the city) Spectacular SM (Vol.2) #1-10 (Ramos' art with a fantastic Venom/Brock story and a political Doc Ock. Spectacular SM (Vol.2) #14 (If it doesn't pull at your heartstrings than you have issues) ASM #509-514 (What writer would dare do that to Gwen Stacy? Love it or hate it. I loved it.) There are more to come. My back-issue collection is growing by the day. John Novosel may Edit his/her details.
