Introduction: Bryan is a former farmer, short-order cook, insurance salesman, and English teacher in Japan, and a long-time veteran of the spiderfan.org staff, having joined in 1995. He is currently doing graduate studies in English literature in British Columbia. His research interests include comic books, and he has presented his research on Spider-Man at academic conferences.

Why Spider-Man: I started collecting comics as most kids were giving them up forever. I got my first comic at a grocery store on the way to a camping weekend and read it over and over during the next few weeks. I'd always recognised Spider-Man from tv and toys, but once I started learning about the character and past adventures, I was hooked. Peter Parker's civilian life interested me more than any other super-hero's secret identity; I liked the idea that Spider-Man had to worry about paying the bills and staying out of trouble with the wife in between fighting crime bosses and megalomaniacs.
