Shows : Universal Studios : Review By Peter Clifton
First off I've tried hard in this review not to give one detail about
what actually happens on the ride. I feel this would be a terrible
mistake and contribute to degrading what will ultimately be one of
the most fantastic theme park rides you can experience.
The ride is very very popular, the queues in my experience were never less than half an hour first thing in the morning and by early evening the wait was up to one and one quarter hours and this was during the second week in June. Forget the newly introduced 'Fast Pass' option, the entire day's allocation is distributed almost before the theme park opens. To help alleviate the boredom whilst waiting, the queue trails through the 'Daily Bugle' offices, all the time the story involving the 'Sinister Six' leading up to the ride experience, is being shown on TV monitors and Projection screens in cartoon form. You pass through Peter Parker's dark room (a few visual jokes being evident), past the offices of JJ and Robbie Robertson, through the newsroom and so on, whilst background sounds from answer machines and phones are heard, it's all very kitch but helps to pass the time. Ultimately it's on to the ride, which as I promised, I will say nothing about, except to hint that, the ride is a cross between a Ghost Train/ The Back to The Future Ride and Terminator 3D Show, all rolled into one. As for the experience, well what can I say, kids will love it, teenagers will probably just say "Way Cool!" and perhaps smile even if they have just had a teriffic time... and as for you Adults, prepare for an epiphany, your second childhood awaits. My brother (aged 34, I'm 36) has never read a Spider-Man comic in his life or regularly watched the TV cartoons, He and I rode it five times (the last three times mostly at his insistance, ok, I admit it, I would have ridden it anyway.)
The VerdictTo sum up, don't worry about the queues, this ride is brilliant, it's state of the art, terrific fun and highly recommended for fans and non-fans alike.
