Bad stuff has been happening in the wider Ultimate Comics world. There has been a mutant nation established and sentinels are roaming the US. Reed Richards grew a city and attacked the planet. Which has all meant that America is now a fractured country with parts controlled by different interests.
Captain America is in the Triskelion with Tony Stark. Cap has only just discovered there is a new Spider-man. After finding a bit out about Miles, he decides he wants to meet the new Spidey.
Meanwhile, Miles is at home and finding it hard to deal with his Uncle's death. Miles' dad comes in and tells him about Aaron's death. Miles needs to pretend he doesn't know. Miles' dad seems to believe that Spider-man killed Aaron. Later on, walking to school with Ganke, Miles sees that the papers are also labeling Spidey a murderer. When Miles and Ganke sit down to lunch, they are discussing all the stuff going on with Spider-man, when Miles gets a mysterious call. He agrees to meet up with the caller later.
On the way to meet the caller, Miles ends up getting into a pretty entertaining fight with Batroc, who just so happens to be robbing a bank. Spidey ends up winning, but the police want to take Spidey in, so he has to run. In the background, we see that cap has been watching the whole thing.
Spidey arrives at a abandoned warehouse. The caller is revealed to be Aunt May and Gwen. They have something of Peter's that they want to give Miles. Cap suddenly steps out of the shadows and says, "I don't think this young man will be Spider-man anymore."
I loved a lot of things about this issue. Plot wise, bringing the Ultimates and Cap into the mix is a great idea, considering Caps role and sense of responsibility in Peter Parker's death. The reveal of Aunt May and Gwen was surprising and welcome. The fight with Batroc is also extremely entertaining and funny. The art, once again, is excellent. There is also a nice little cliff-hanger.
I was surprised that there weren't more repercussions from Aaron's death. I guess I was expecting more angst and sadness this issue. A funeral even. It seems strange to me that Miles just goes to school as per normal. I am not sure if this is a good or a bad thing.
A very entertaining issue.
