Amazing Spider-Man: Giant Activity Pad - Evolutionary Leap

Background

This "Giant Activity Pad" was published by Bendon in 2012, as part of the seemingly endless line of repetitive "Amazing Spider-Man Movie" tie-ins. I feel reluctantly obliged to describe them all, despite them all sharing the same content.

Story Details

The "Giant" in the title refers to the page count (224 pages), not the physical dimensions which are a rather more modest 5.2" x 7.7".

The artwork features the same style as all of the "2012 Movie" coloring books, which means a scrawny Spider-Man and scratchy artwork designed to appeal to the edgy "SK8R-boi" crowd.

Also, just like all of its contempories, the Lizard himself makes very few appearances. There are a couple of Lizard illustrations, and a couple of Dr. Connors drawings. Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker make a tiny handful of appearances too. But the vast majority of artwork is Spidey, Spidey, Spidey - until you've had your fill of Spider-Man!

General Comments

To be fair, there's a decent enough variety of types of content. There are illustrations to color, and "copy the drawing" pages. But there's also mazes, puzzles, word-games, codes and such-like. None of the puzzles are memorable, and I'm quite sure the "content creator" was heartily sick of his job by the time he was done.

Overall Rating

All of these 2012 Bendon movie tie-in activity books are constructed from the same pool of material. That makes them almost impossible to give a sensible rating. But this top-hinged pad with its 224 pages offers a hefty whack of content in a handy format.

It does exactly what it says on the cover. For that, I'll give it a begrudging 3 webs to acknowledge its convenient size and generous page count - despite it being just yet another in the endless line of barely-indistinguishable 2012 Bendon Spider-Man Coloring/Activity books which differ only in size, title, and die-cut shape. Just like my reviews of the same.
