Spider-Man (Vol. 1) #65

Background

In Sensational Spider-Man #0, Spidey's old enemy Mysterio hired a certain villain by the name of Armada to steal a revelutionary new D.I.T (Digital Imagery Transmission) chip, which can emit thoughts as holographic images.

Through the previous "Return of Spider-Man" storyline Mysterio is busy buying a TV station as Randolph Hines and turning it into an overnight sensation by hypnotizing his viewers into "MysteryVision" addicted zombies. Can Spidey stop him? Read on...

Story 'Unplugged'

  Spider-Man (Vol. 1) #65
Summary: Mysterio
Arc: Part 3 of 'Media Blizzard' (1-2-3)

Despite promises to the contrary, the conclusion to "Media Blizzard" was quite disappointing. Spider-Man hunts through the city for a way to end MysteryVision's subliminal broadcasts, eventually finding Mysterio's transmitters. Marching through Mysterio's illusions, Spidey tears apart the subliminal transmitter.

The programs continue, but without the subliminal addictive bonds, the viewers tune out, and within a minute every potential advertiser decides that MysteryVision is trash, and Mysterio is at last defeated. I was expecting a more explosive confrontation for a villain of Mysterio's calibre, though, and feel that the Master Showman deserves more than to be defeated so easily.

General Comments

Hey, parts 1 and 2 were great, with strong writing and crisp art, but part 3 really let me down.

Overall Rating

Dribbles off to a tame ending and three point five webs.
