Sex, Lies, and Superheroes: New comic book documentary to premiere
in Winter 2002
NEW YORK - September 17, 2002 - Don't call them funny pages. The leading
artists, writers, and visionaries of comic books have convened in an upcoming
documentary to offer their perspectives on comics as a medium for sophisticated
stories and artwork.
The film, "Sex, Lies, and Superheroes" features the writers and artists that
have shaped the comic book characters that will be making big screen
appearances in the coming years. The creative teams behind Spiderman, X-Men,
The Hulk, The Mighty Thor, Sandman (and more) share their stories, secrets
behind the characters, and thoughts on the future of the industry.
The film features intimate interviews with Stan Lee (MARVEL COMICS),
Neil Gaiman (SANDMAN), Frank Miller (BATMAN: DARK KNIGHT),
Bill Sienkewicz (ELEKTRA ASSASSIN), John Byrne (X-MEN, BATMAN),
Chris Claremont (X-MEN, GEN 13), Peter David (THE HULK,
SPIDERMAN), Colleen Doran (A DISTANT SOIL), Amanda Conner
(BARBIE, THE PRO), Jimmy Palmiotti (STAR WARS), Jim Valentino
(IMAGE COMICS), and Walter & Louise Simonson (THE MIGHTY THOR). The film
is co-written by Peter Sanderson, author of The Official Handbook of the
Marvel Universe.

director Constantine Valhouli. Sex, Lies, & Superheroes is directed by
award-winning filmmaker Constantine Valhouli, who has been tackling timely and
relevant issues since Silicon Alley Stories (2001), a tale of the rise and fall
of the dot coms in New York, and Curve (2002), a critically acclaimed
documentary on plus-size modeling and fashion featuring Emme, Kathy Najimy, and
dozens of models from Ford and Click. Curve has been featured in over 100
