Here's Oracular Wisdom a-plenty. Note the increasing politeness of supplicants. While we do include as many Oracle responses as possible, it has become clear that the Mighty One showers his Sapient Favours more freely on those whose missives contain due deference to his Superior Status.

If you wish to see your response printed, or wish the Oracle to answer more difficult questions in great detail, you would be well advised to begin your request with a sufficiently submissive introduction. "O Might Oracle" is a good starting point, but don't feel limited in your entreatments.

Has Peter ever felt so distraught about events in his life at any point in the mainstream series(es) that he's seriously considered ending his life?

Only one time comes to mind, Captain. In MARVEL FANFARE vol.1 #1-2, Spidey made one his regular trips to the Savage Land where he was genetically altered into a spider-like beast. Through slurred speech he begged his friend Ka-Zar that if he couldn't somehow reverse the process, to kill him. Better to die, he said, than go on as a monstrosity.

Why is Stan Lee entirely incapable of using periods?! Why is he so infatuated with the exclamation point?! It really ticks me off! Peter will be in an obviously somber or exhausted mood and say, with such inappropriate ardor, "I had a bad day!" or something of the like!

Part of the reason, Vej, is that Stan is from a generation a writers who like to make everything very dramatic. But an even bigger reason was that the "." was very hard to make show up in those older comics. So "!" was used unless it really didn't work in the specific instance.

I heard once, from a friend, that Spider-Man has a maximum strength of 10 tons, and could jump 8 meters. Is that information true? I've been looking for it for a long time, but couldn't find an answer. He said that he once read that in a very old crossover magazine.

He's probably remembering AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #15 from 1981. The "10 Tons" has since become official, having been recorded in various Official Handbooks to the Marvel Universe. However, there are several cases where Spidey has exceeded this while under extreme mental and emotional stress. But he can jump much higher than 8 meters.

Please, please please give me the final confirmation on the origin of Spider-Woman I! Who is she? A Genetic freak of a spider superevolved by a benevolent God known as the High Evolutionary, or a sweet girl named Jessica Drew saved from radiation poisoning by her father and a spider-serum? None of my other references help- they either deny one origin or say that both were true. Please help!

Both origins have been believed to be true at time or another, Ed, but fear not! The whole mystery surrounding the original Spider-Woman's origin will be cleared up in a new 5-issue miniseries titled, ironically enough "SPIDER-WOMAN: ORIGIN", written by Brian Michael Bendis. The first issue should be on the stands about the time you read this.

Nightwatch aka Kevin Trench. Remember him. One of the coolest original origins in the last couple of decades. Helped up in Maximum Mess, I mean Carnage. Anyway, just wondering if you could tell me where he is now, or where he was last seen. Talk about a massively underused character.

Dead. SPIDER-MAN UNLIMITED vol.1 #14. Very sad. Or maybe not.

On which issues are "Spider-Man" the movie based on? On which issues are "Spider-Man 2" the movie based on? On which issues will "Spider-Man 3" the movie be based on?

Well, the first movie mostly had elements of AMAZING FANTASY #15 and AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #121-122. The second movie had mostly elements of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #3 and #50. The third movie is still shrouded in mystery at the moment, Nick, but you can be sure there will be elements of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #4 at the very least.
