Dec 1991 : SM Title : Web of Spider-Man
Characters: Aunt May Parker, Hypertron, Mary Jane Watson-Parker

Bob Robbins is some sort of marketing exec who wants a new project … Spider-Man! Meanwhile, Spidey is dealing with a robot – Hypertron 1.0 who's just committed a robbery. Whoever is controlling HT gets it to escape with Spidey in hot pursuit … and Robbins in pursuit of Spider-Man. Spidey brings down Hypertron and it turns out to be some guy in a costume. Robbins jumps in and unmasks him.

Robbins offers Spidey his PR services but Spider-Man declines. Robbins steals the Hypertron costume. Meanwhile, the other two guys who were in contact with the Hypertron guy get him from the local police station and go in search of their missing costume.

Robbins is planning to use the costume to be his own superhero and market himself!

The three guys track down their costume – with Bob inside – they start shooting up the city before Spider-Man crashes the scene and, of course, comes out on top. He confiscates the costume for the police … but Bob still has the blueprint on disc…

In General...

Pretty average. The three chaps who invented the costume just don't ring true as villains. I quite like the idea of a PR man trying to coax Spidey into becoming a client but wouldn't it have worked better if he'd tried to coax Spidey into a stage-managed 'fight'?

Just like the last issue, you get the feeling that the initial idea is quite promising … it's just the execution that simply doesn't work.
