Jun 1991 : SM Title : Web of Spider-Man
Characters: Aunt May Parker, Betty Brant, Black Cat, Flash Thompson, Green Goblin II (Harry Osborn), J. Jonah Jameson, Nick Katzenberg, Elizabeth (Allan) Osborn, Mary Jane Watson-Parker, Joseph

Pete, MJ, May and Lumpkin are at a party in the Poseidon hotel in upper Manhattan. It is a fundraiser for the homeless. There is a young black waitress named Anna. Flash is there but was slightly confused and thought it was a costume ball. He has come as Stilt Man while Felicia has come as ... the Black Cat!

Jonah and Robbie, as sponsors of the project, are also there to give a speech. Pete's Spider-sense keeps going off but he's not sure why. Meanwhile, in the kitchen and basement, something seems to be stalking Anna.

In a silent monologue, Anna makes reference to something that's happened in the Cloak And Dagger title. Back upstairs, a sandbag comes crashing down from the roof. Pete sees the rope has been gnawed through. He also notices the stage supports have been chewed through. Under the stage, Pete is trying to fix things with his web-shooters but the lights go off and things collapse. He notices lots of rats following something large so changes to Spidey and follows.

Anna is down in some sort of bunker with these weird-looking very overweight 'things'. He whisks her away - or tries to - but the creature things attack him along with the rats. Anyway, it all calms down and the creatures are Morlocks (!)

Morlocks apparently live under the city in the sewer and seem to be relatively harmless. Upstairs, the guests are leaving slowly in the dark as Firebrand flies in shooting fire. The building starts to burn with people inside before Cloak And Dagger show up.

In General...

It's nice to see Flash and Felicia along with all the other Bugle gang in one place but that's about it. Having said that, the artwork on Felicia is so plain and dodgy even their appearance falls flat.

I'm not really sold on Anna as a character though and don't know what Morlocks are, so let's see how things go.

Overall Rating...

Not convinced so far.
