Comics : Civil War: The Return (Story 2)

Background...

This is a backup story in this issue. Spider-Man doesn't appear, but since I had the comic open on my desk, I though I'd thrown down a quick review.

No Spidey : Civil War One Shots

The Sentry battles Crusher Creel, the Absorbing Man. At the same time, the Golden God muses whether to register his powers with Tony Stark's new initiative. Clearly this story takes place early on in the events of Civil War.

Creel is hugely powerful, having absorbed Sentry's powers. But in a classic comic book twist, Sentry defeats Creel by offering the unworthy usurper too much power, overloading him and destroying him. Of course, you can't destroy Creel, he'll be back.

Then the Sentry turns up at a police station to register his powers. End of tale.

In General...

Perhaps I was already in a slightly negative frame of mind after having read the opening story in this one-shot. But I found little to please me. The battle was formulaic, and the result of the Sentry's decision was made inevitable by stories I had read long before.

Overall Rating...

Let's give it a bland three webs, and move on to other, greater things.
